Re: Weekly Randoms w/o 3/12

  • My kid is driving me nuts today. Anyone wanna borrow a 4 year old for a bit?

  • I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to tell my 3 year old to get her finger out of her nose or stop scratching your butt.... kids are gross
  • It's spring break. DH thinks this means I'm free to run all kids of errands and clean the house. Ha... I'm about to take a nap.

  • Perhaps we should have a discussion about ticker changes vs. weekly due date check ins. The two due date check ins we have have a ton of posters (65 in the first week DD check in and it was just posted on Thursday!). Do you all think ticker changes would be easier to keep up with and get to know people? Should we have a poll or wait until later in the month when more people have joined? I'm really not sure what the best idea would be so welcome everyone's thoughts!

  • @offtoneverland Nah let's just switch. Every BMB seems to start on dates, then switch to ticker. Of course, we'll all end up with new ticker change days after our first ultrasounds, but I don't think that should be much of a problem. Just don't assign who starts it and a little fluidity will be fine.
  • @offtoneverland can you explain what a ticker change is exactly?
    Babysizer Cravings Pregnancy Tracker
  • @pink_polkadots The ticker changes seem to have been around for years and years in all the BMBs. I haven't participated in a BMB that used them though; the BMBs I was in (for a short time) did the weekly due date check ins like we've been doing. If we did ticker changes, it would mean we'd have one new thread per day (instead of just four per week), and you would post in the thread on the day you roll over to a new week in your pregnancy. Example: On Wednesday I'll be 7 weeks, so I would post in the Wednesday ticker changes. If you rolled over on a Sunday, you'd post in the Sunday ticker change.
There are pros and cons to each, I think. With the weekly check ins, you'd be conversing with people who have a similar due date and are in a similar phase of their pregnancy, which most seem to think is beneficial. But I think with how busy some of the due date check ins have been, it's hard to get to know people since it's such a large group.
Thanks for your feedback @argyleagain ! Yeah, I noticed that a lot of BMBs have been switching back to ticker changes. Honestly, I like the idea of the due date check ins a bit better, but I think it all depends on the group so we'll just have to see what works for us. Ticker changes may work better so we don't have such large threads. I'll wait to get a bit more feedback here before changing the organization thread, just so everyone's on the same page.

@offtoneverland - my experience has been the opposite and I've only been in BMBs that have the ticker changes. They've worked, although you always get the lost person that doesn't understand it and will post in whichever ticker change they feel like. The weekly threads would definitely be smaller though since you have more per week.

  • @mockingjay1 I wouldn't be worried about being a PITA patient. I'm sure they've seen much worse. Push to be squeezed in, girl!

As for potty training- DD is not there yet and I don't even want to think about it. Good luck! lol

@TheSouffleGirl - Thanks. I'm sorry you can relate. The office only has two OBs and one NP, but the nurse said I could come in tomorrow (I'd only be 5w 3d, so I asked for one next week if possible so I'd at least be 6w) and she said they'd squeeze me in the same day I was already scheduled for (I'll be 6w 3d) so I am SO thankful. I really want to see the heartbeat, and I don't feel like an ultrasound before it would give me much peace of mind.

  • @mockingjay1 I'm so sorry you had to reschedule your ultrasound. I hope they can squeeze you in sometime soon so you don't have to wait so long. I understand about needing that confirmation, so don't feel like a pain in the butt patient. You need to do whatever you need to do for your sanity, especially with your history.
As for potty training...it is the wooooorst. It took a long time for DD to catch on to pooping on the potty. It seemed to help when I talked to her about what poop is. I explained that when she eats food, her body uses it to make her grow big and strong, but her body can't use all of it, so the rest comes out as poop. Her day care teacher said that some kids have a huge difficulty with it because they don't understand what it is and they feel like they're losing a part of their body. So I talked to her over and over again about what it is. Good luck to you! It really is the worst, so just try to have has much patience as possible. And buy tons of extra undies so you don't have to wash out all the dirty ones!

  • All this potty training talk has me seriously dreading potty training with DS. Bit of an AW here, but we used the 3 day method with DD and it worked so well. It literally only took 3 days. I think it was a total fluke and just good luck/timing, but I just can't imagine our luck being this good twice. I would love to have him potty trained before November, but I have a feeling he won't be ready.

  • @copperboom86 I've never heard that expression. Too funny!
    Pregnancy Ticker

  • @offtoneverland @wannaflickone We are in a tricky area potty training wise. DD seems to want to be potty trained (keeps taking off her diaper, doesn’t want to wear one, wants to wear big girl panties, and shows lots of interest in putting tp in the potty and flushing). But - she shows no real awareness of having to pee or poop, or communicating that need. And when she does go (like if we bribe her to sit on potty with ipad), she doesn’t seem to understand/make the connection. So I don’t know if I should push to go ahead or wait until her physical awareness catches up with her enthusiasm

  • What does SS stand for? It's not in the abreviation list (neither is TOU which comes up in the instruction board but I can't find a meaning for lol)

(I'm not that smart guys. Obviously lol)
  • @babybrain2018 Don’t feel dumb! It took me a while to learn all the abbreviations. People are all “look at the list!” But there are a ton commonly used ones that aren’t on the list.

SS stands special snowflake, which is a person who makes a separate post for something that should be posted in an already open thread. For example, all the threads currently on the board with questions that could’ve been posted in the questions thread or app suggestions that could’ve been posted on the Randoms thread.

TOU stands for terms of use and refers to The Bump community rules.

  • @CopperBoom86 THANK you! I appreciate your patience and help. Also laughed my ass off at special snowflake.
I'm gonna have to start using that one.
  • @lifesabeach75 that is a tough decision. I'm not sure I'm much help. For your sanity, I may almost hold off and wait. But if you are ready to just take it head on, keep going. Has she had a big accident in her panties? DD wasn't necessarily putting it all together until she was in her highchair in panties and peed. She was shocked at the way it felt and didn't like it. From that point on, she put it together.

If you are interested in the 3 day book, I can sort through my emails and try and find my old PDF copy to send you.

  • @mockingjay1 I hope they can squeeze you in! I totally get the need for peace of mind and not having to wait!

Monday I had my HCG level drawn (5w1d). Today my OB office called and said my number is in range for where I am according to my LMP but because they're low they are having me redraw on Monday again. This means I have to wait a week from today to make sure everything is progressing and I think I might drive myself crazy with worry. I had my levels drawn 4w5d last time and didn't need a redraw so of course I'm kinda thrown.

  • @Gingersnap_mama - I am so sorry you have to wait a whole week for your redraw. It's so hard to keep the anxiety down. I hope the next week goes quickly and your next draw brings good news!

@CopperBoom86 - YES to all the SS!! I love me some snark! My last bmb was SO rainbows and unicorns for the most part it was crazy compared to most bmbs.

RE: potty training - we are trying to stick to the 3 day potty training online book I read. Today is day 3. He woke up dry and no accidents yet, so we'll see how the rest of the day is. The problem is he hasn't pooped since we took off his diaper Monday morning... we'll see how that goes, but other than that I think he's been doing great! We're going to attempt the zoo with some friends tomorrow so we'll see how he does outside of home.  :#
