I am super annoyed. Yesterday I had an appt at 8:30 to tour a daycare. Well, we had a blizzard come through, but it wasn't supposed to really get going until like 2, so I figured we were still on. NOPE. I got to the center yesterday and they were closed. They never called me to cancel and even a day later they have not reached out.

Guess that one is off my list.

  • @kiwi2628 - I tried contacting a daycare center 3 times and was told each time that the person I needed to talk to was busy. They either took a message and told me they would call back, or asked me to call them back.  The never called me back, so yeah, like you- that one is off my list.  It was disappointing, because that one was directly on my way to work.
  • @kiwi625 Rude.

This morning has been pretty chill!

My mom is flying in this evening for a weekend visit. Tomorrow we're having a SPA DAY! SPA DAY, LADIES!

  • @stithof - sweet!  What color are you painting your toes?
  • I am so grumpy today. One of my vendors at work ticked me off first thing this AM.They are already on my bad side. We had a rough day at the vet with my dog, so that didn't help either. Just lots of allergy issues to take care of. Its also snowing again and I'm so over it.
  • @knottieamusements Well, after an 80-minute massage...I think I'll need to let my zen decide what color is appropriate!
  • There is a bat in my house, and rather than deal with it, i'm here, bumpin.  (full disclosure, its contained in a room and pest control is on their way, so i sort of dealt with it, lol)
  • @jengibre_zorro - Yup- you’ve dealt with it.  When it comes time to clean up any guano, be sure to use mask and gloves (or make your partner deal). Bat guano has some really ugly stuff in it.
  • My toddler has a gross runny nose and I hate it. When is the spring coming?

  • Today is my Friday!! And DH is working this weekend so I plan to catch up on sleep and be lazy. Super pumped.
  • My smell aversions have been horrible. For about a week now, I can barely stand the smell of my son. He smells like a mixture of Cheerios, sweaty fleece PJs, and pee. I usually like cuddling him when he gets up in the morning but yikes, it’s been hard.
  • @Lisa3379 Yes! The cute baby smell is gone and he just stinks. Either like pee or whatever food he’s smeared in his hair. And he’s been pooping up a storm which I just can’t handle.
  • I'm annoyed because I sent DF to get me fruit and whipped cream and he decided to go to 7-Eleven instead of Walmart where they, of course, didn't have whipped cream. So I had to settle for chocolate ice cream. Which, while delicious, is not fruit and whipped cream.
Minor annoyance in the grand scheme of things but I asked for ONE thing. Huff.

  • I am craving movie popcorn so bad.
  • Anyone have the “5 Things You didn’t know you should avoid during pregnancy” article in their feed today?

I really struggle with with those articles because they are always things you can’t really avoid.
  • @cdepperschmidt - I honestly disregard a lot of that advice.  Yes, I am not drinking (which is not actually a change for me) and avoiding caffeine. I’m wearing gloves and a mask while changing the cat box.

But I’m not suddenly going to be afraid to have a ham sandwich, and I don’t plan to grill waiters about whether the cheese is pasteurized.

What gets me is that we aren’t supposed to eat unpasteurized cheese, but yogurt is ok.  I’m not supposed to clean my indoor cat’s litter box, but nobody says anything about gardening. It just seems like the advice is inconsistent.
  • @knottieamusements exactlyyyyy. And so much about the food thing is about preventing listeria...do you know what the #1 cause of listeria in the US is? Leafy green (uncooked) veggies. So basically, salad greens. No one is telling pregnant ladies not to eat a salad. Its all about being smart about where you eat.

@knottieamusements I've actually seen a few articles on ensuring you wear gloves when gardening. I'm more concerned about gardening than changing the cat box tbh. My cat has been indoor all her life, she gets tested and treated as needed. I can't say the same for the neighborhood cats who might go in my garden!

@kiwi2628 that's how I feel too. We hear more about salad greens having issues with listeria than deli meat. I also figure, if I'm eating at some place like Subway or Jimmy Johns - they go through so much meat that I'd know if there was an issue at their location.

@knottieamusements I think about the fact that when I'm asleep or not home to yell at my cats they're probably walking all over my counters and god knows what they're licking.  So wouldn't I be exposed in other ways? In  desperate times I've had to scoop the box.  Mine are in indoor too so I'm not too concerned.
  • @KFrob you only have to worry about their poop.

Everyone lectures me on the cat box, because it's one of those "common" pregnancy no-nos. Most don't actually know why though. My cat, for whatever reason, refuses to poop in her box. So I just make the hubs clean that up.
  • @sammierose464 - I have also seen a few articles about avoiding gardening, but you kind of have to dig for them. I am both planning to wear nitrile gloves under my gardening gloves and planning to use being pregnant as an excuse to let my yard go this year.  I find a new excuse every year after the initial weeding. :)

As for food- I plan to be a lot more aware of general food safety (especially come summer picnics), and am definitely taking into account suggestions for which there is good medical evidence (i.e. alcohol, mercury).

For me personally, I just feel like a lot of the information out there is hyped up to make women afraid.  Yes, I understand that The the risks are real, but what is the actual likelihood of encountering the risk?  That information is not easily available, so I don’t feel like I can make an informed decision.
  • Read Expecting Better. She got studies and numberd on everything so you can make an educated decision! Gardening is more risky than cleaning a cat box. Cats only get the disease when they eat raw meat infected with it. There is a short time they can pass it on. Most cats have had it if they have been outdoors at some point but it is only the risk a short time. The gardening is a bigger risk as there is all sorts of junk that can be in soil (just can't remember any of it). Most cheese is pasteurized. Not all but most in the USA at least. Lunch meat isn't really a concern but I do remember reading that the author of the book still chose to avoid turkey lunch meat (or was it chicken?) after reading all the reports and studies.
  • @KFrob - Also- according to my vet, as long as you scoop daily, you also don’t have to worry.  It is when it sits that it becomes as issue.

And yeah- my cat has free range of the house. Her fur and germs are everywhere.  It’s going to be interesting when Baby shows up, as the cat has never been around tiny humans.  I’m pretty sure she’ll just take the same tactics she did when the dog showed up and avoid the situation altogether.
  • It’s been testing week at school, which has been a blessing and a curse.  A blessing because I’ve been able to just sit and eat Cheerios all day, but a curse because I just sit and think about how tired I am!

  • Ugh I’m really freaked out this morning. As I was leaving my house to catch my bus, I slipped on a wet spot on my front deck and took a super hard fall. I hit my butt and lower back really hard on the ground and lower step, and though I’m mostly just really sore now, I’m of course concerned about baby. I sent a message to my dr to see what she has to say, but I’m worried :worried:  anyone else have a fall or something similar happen while pregnant?
  • @pumpkinpancake - sending happy thoughts your way!  I hope everything is okay!
  • @pumpkinpancake since it’s so early I bet everything’s fine. Baby is really well cushioned in there. I’ve got in for non-stress tests after stuff like that in the third tri in the past, but this early I would just try not to worry.

  • My cat is my cat and I would never make/ask my husband to clean the litter box unless I was literally incapable of doing it myself. Kitty has been an indoor kitty for 10 years. I clean the litter box myself every 2-3 days, just like I have for the last 10 years. I'm not worried about it. at. all.
  • @kimberbeep I'm the same way. I had the cat before my husband came along. It's always been my job. He takes care of the dog outside, and I take care of the cat inside. I feel weird relying on him for the cat.

I fell on the ice when I was around 30 weeks pregnant with my daughter.  I called the doctor just to be sure, but they told me as long as baby was moving fine that I didn't need to come in.  But I think you made the right move to call in!

  • Thanks, everyone. *TW* I think I’m just more freaked out because before this pregnancy I had two back to back losses, so I’m extra on edge about this one. *end TW*

This may not be helpful but I slipped on my front porch (it's actually tiled) when I was 5 weeks. Thankfully mostly my hip and left hand took the fall but I was worried at first. Granted I haven't had an ultrasound, but my symptoms have progressively gotten worse so we'll see wednesday. Everything I've read online says baby has a lot of cushion in there and as long as it isn't blunt trauma to the abdomen/lower abdomen, you should be fine. If you're super worried maybe call your Dr, perhaps they'll schedule an u/s to make everything is ok.

  • @kimberbeep did you mean for you post to come off as super shame-y as it did?
  • @kiwi2628 - nope, I didn't mean to come off as shame-y. I almost posted a "maybe this should be in UO, lol" at the end but I couldn't get those words out right. I can see where it may have come off that way but I'm also ragey about other stuff this morning, so that may have slipped into my tone. My apologies.
  • @pumpkinpancake call the doc just for peace of mind if nothing else.

Also recommend the book Expecting Better with regards to the things you “shouldn’t do” when pregnant. Great advice. I prob should read it again for a refresher. It’s crazy what you forget from your first pregnancy.

In other news news I went to my PCP today because I felt like I was coming down with something...apparently I was right: sinus infection and ear infection. I called the OB after to ask about the antibiotic  and I was totally annoyed because the nurse was not very kind and at one point asked if I was pregnant. No. I’m not pregnant. That’s why I am calling the OB nurse line to ask if decongestants and antibiotics are safe, because I’m not pregnant.

To top it off it’s going to be a miserable weekend with me trying to catch up on work and keep my toddler entertained thanks to this bug.

I still havent had had my first ultrasound. Maybe this was more appropriate for a BF post...
  • @pumpkinpancake I actually fell down the stairs at 16 weeks pregnant with DD. Then did the same thing a few weeks later. All was well
