Re: U/O 3/8

  • @alinafed I love the idea of a bday cake with a zero on it! Fun!  But also, I can't even imagine going home 3 hours after birth.  You must be wonder woman.  I was basically still dying (exaggeration, but only a little) at like 18+ hours after birth.

  • @ecwk Same here.  I didn't have midwives, just an OB and nurses (and a doula but she had to leave for another birth shortly after DD was born), and I seriously stayed an extra day beyond when they said I could go home because I wasn't ready to leave all that help/support.
  • I would love to go home so soon I think....I cannot sleep in other places, especially a hospital and I was miserable for those 2 days.
  • I was fine for one night, but after that I was ready to get out of there. I’m going to see if they can fast track us if all is well.

  • With DS I think I'd have loved to stay a few more nights. I was so nervous when we got home! But this time I'm really hoping that we can just stay the 2 nights (no NICU time please please please) because I've never been away from DS overnight and I'm already having anxiety about the time away from him!

  • @calimom2524 hell yea, I buy it at HEB. Lol. It's the only ketchup we use.
What is this mysterious "other ketchup"? It's not Heinz? Heinz is THE ONLY ketchup! I am not saying that because I am from Pittsburgh either. There is no other option.

Oh girl you have no idea. It's a fast food chain in Texas (possibly other places, not too sure) and the ketchup they provide is just phenomenally better than any other. It's hard to describe! Just SO GOOD.

IKWYM!!! I am leaving DS with DH next weekend for 2 nights - it is my first time away from him overnight and although I am looking forward to relaxing and getting a little "practice" in before I have to leave him when I am in the hospital...I am really nervous about being away!

  • @ecwk - we've talked about DH spending the first 2 nights with me (induction start and birth night) then going home and being with DS just in case this baby needs some NICU time for low sugars like DS did. I understand being nervous! Practice time sounds like a really good idea actually! I might have to steal that idea :)

Ditto to this! DS was a week in the NICU and I haven’t been away from him overnight since. Hell, he’s only been babysat by my mom and DH’s mom a handful of times and I’m so nervous leaving him! I SAH and he cries a lot when he is somewhere without me, I’m just so anxious about it. If this baby needs any NICU time (please god no!) it will be even harder.
  • When DS was born I was on the fence about staying one extra night but then I read on the local scanner page that a guy was killed in a construction accident LITERALLY BEHIND MY HOUSE. We had just built so there was a lot of work still going on and it happened in the field behind my fence. I was like, yeah, no, we're gonna stay here.
  • I guess my belated UO is that I love the hospital. My mom is a nurse, and I spent a ton of time at her hospital as a kid. I've only been admitted to a hospital twice, but both times were great. I had people dotting on me the whole time, and zero responsibility. It was like a vacation! The only downside is that you need to be really sick/injured to get in, but pregnancy looks to be a loophole :) I'm looking forward to spending a couple of days there post partum. DH will bring me food, I'll hang with my new baby if we can avoid the NICU, and I'll do nothing else until I go home.

No matter what way that baby comes out it's still an injury! lol

  • I'm milking it as long as possible to get to stay as long as I can. I'm not anticipating delivery being anything less than awful, but it's a much better reason to be in the hospital than "dying."

  • I also went home about 6 hours after giving birth in a birth center, and I’m freaking out about potentially having to stay overnight in a hospital with this one (I’m on blood thinners, so a bc birth is out this time). I’m looking in to every possible way to get home the same day. My recovery was so easy even with stitches and I loved being in my own home and able to move around as I wanted. I am just someone that’s leery of hospitals in general, plus I don’t want DH and I to be away from DS that long.

I actually agree with you. I've been in the hospital 4 or 5 times (twice for baby, other times for my lovely reproductive organ problems, and one 5 day stint with DS2 and a fractured skull) and I've enjoyed it. Besides the lack of sleep from being woken up for vitals throughout the night it wasn't terrible.

  • I've never been admitted to the hospital (knocks on wood) so I'm kind of looking forward to it.  I like the idea of being taken care of.

I don't mind it. I mean obviously my bed at home is better but with the right amount of pillows and a blanket from home it's not bad. However the couch/futon/chair thing I was stuck in for DS2's stay was effing terrible. That hospital stay from start to finish was awful, though.

  • I hated being in the hospital with DS. He was born around 11pm, and they immediately let all our family back to see us. By the time they all left and we changed from the delivery room to the postpartum room, it was almost 2am. I got a few hours of sleep, got up, and sent him to the nursery so I could shower. The food was gross, and I couldn’t really do anything in the hospital even though I wanted to be up & around. DH wasn’t there most of the time either, so I was kind of moping. This time I’ll be at a different hospital, and I hope it’ll be a better experience.
  • I hate being in the hospital. I’m trying to go as soon as baby pops. C-ya!! Thanks for the memories. Lol.
  • When DS was transferred to NICU 2 days after he was born, they discharged me.  So I spent the first couple days recovering from my 3rd degree tear sleeping in a chair next to his machine trying to figure out how to pump and having to buy our own meals because I was no longer a patient.  I remember going in the little NICU bathroom trying to figure out how to change my dressings because I was bleeding through my clothes at 3am.  Yeah....not the best recovery.  This time I just hope to go home with my baby within 5 days of checking in to the hospital- pretty please
  • @livinthesunnylife I'm so sorry! That sounds awful! I was discharged before DS as well and remember clear as day having to go to the hospital gift shop because I was out of pads. Ugh. Won't make that mistake again, I'm bringing a nursing cami, yoga pants and 1000 pads this time.

  • I took home SO many of the hospital mesh panties. I still have a bunch. I bled FOREVER...weeks and weeks. And then started my period promptly at 6 weeks PP. Gah. Why am I doing this again? Haha.
  • Am I the only one that has no appetite after giving birth? Both times I felt kind of nauseous for a few hours afterward and they were both born in the evening so I didn’t really eat until the next day.
Lol not me!!! In labor I was famished and talking about what I wanted, and needed to eat anything and everything, told my sister to bring me food when she came (right away) to meet the baby, and the post partum waiting for the milk to come in time frame is a hunger like to hunger I ever experienced. It was the most amazing bc I could just EAT and it was SO SATISFYING and delicious and I just had a baby so I could just eat whatever, the calorie burn I’m sure was massive.

I never felt full and just it was so gooood to eat. I freakin love it lol

I say noot-ella because I first encountered Nutella in Italy many years ago, and that's how they pronounce it there.

The food at my hospital is super awesome but the kitchen closes at 7pm.  This didn't bother me after having DD1 but after DD2 I was SO FUCKING HUNGRY late at night and couldn't do anything about it.  I will bring more snacks this time.
DELIVERY!!! If it happens again ask the nurses who delivers!

  • @derbysquirrel I look forward to the hospital stay too as long as it's for the normal reasons. My sister just had a baby last week and they celebrated because they had her at 12:01 in the morning, which technically bought them an extra night in the hospital after delivery.
  • Omg get me OUT of the hospital ASAP!!! Hospital bed is basically the worst sleep ever, they effing suck. And my babies all wanted to sleep with me and you can’t bedshare. No Netflix. Just that annoying tv with the weird bed speakers. Waking me up at all hours.

Hard to get in in the groove with baby too, and I want to snuggle all my kids.

With 2/3 I was counting down till 24hrs and when I was allowed to leave

  • I was discharged before baby too but luckily they let me stay with her citing I was her source of food since I was nursing. She was discharged two days later and my hospital doesn't have a NICU so maybe that is why they let me stay?
