  • How far along are you? Size of baby?
    16+6 Avocado
    Age(s) of other kid(s)?
    22 months
    How are you feeling?
So much better. My tailbone hurts, but that’s just life while pregnant (for me). I can deal.
    Rants/Raves?
I really need to start planning DS’s birthday party.
    Questions?
So we love the state fair. My mom told me she bought season tickets for the two of us (plus kiddos) to go as much as we want. She did this before knowing I was pregnant and was going to give it to me for my birthday. During the fair, DS2 will be 6-8 weeks old and DS will be 2.5. Those of you with two kids.... Do you think that’s something I’ll be able to handle? I feel like we could at least go twice, maybe more. It lasts for 3 weeks, 4 weekends. My mom was reminding me of all the things we did when DS1 was a newborn, but I didn’t have a toddler then! Anyways, just looking for opinions as to if that is realistic or not.

GTKY: What is something you said before you became a parent that you’d never do as a parent but now you actually do do??
There really isn’t anything I made a absolute statement about, but I didn’t plan to bed share. I also didn’t want to have him watch much TV or eat in front of the TV so much. Hoping we can break some of those habits.

18 weeks this week.  I think it's an artichoke

    Age(s) of other kid(s)?
    4.....5 next month - wahhh!

    How are you feeling?
Besides this nasty head cold, I feel okay. I actually worked out 2 days last week with modifications, but still.  So I felt like I was starting an upward trend that I am slightly derailed from until I can shake this cold.

    Rants/Raves?
I hate not being able to take drowsy meds like nyquil LOL  I really never have any raves haha that can't be good.

    Questions?
Anyone have the baby k'tan for your first kid? I've been looking at them this time around because I think I will have to baby wear more with DS being so active.

GTKY: What is something you said before you became a parent that you’d never do as a parent but now you actually do do??
Hmmm....I can't think of anything specific but I thought I would be a bit more strict than I actually am.  I just hate disappointing DS.  I mean, he does get things taken away from him when he acts out and there are consequences to actions, but I may warn him like 5-7 times first LOL, or 15
  • How far along are you? Size of baby? 18w, artichoke.

    Age(s) of other kid(s)? L is 31 months, E is 15 months.

How are you feeling? Good. I think I spent all weekend sleeping/fighting off some type of bug.

Rants/Raves? SNOW DAY!!!!! So I have to actually parent during a weekday. Ugh.

    Questions? Nope.

GTKY: What is something you said before you became a parent that you’d never do as a parent but now you actually do do?? I don’t think there was much of anything. One thing that surprised everyone was how calm I am/was about baby being in another room/outside at get-togetherns. Never really bothered me, as when baby wants mom, someone will bring them/find me.

@lalala2004 you can totally do a fair if you have help. We took L at 2, and E at about a year. Stroller was a must, as we aren’t big baby wearers. L also has a leash backpack, so H would take him for 1-2 activities, then I’d take him for a bit.

DSS will be 13 next week and DS is 18 months

    How are you feeling?
Pretty good! Eating normally again is helping even though my sleep is still a mess. I'm out by about 830 each night but wide awake anywhere from 1-3.

    Rants/Raves?
Stress level is creeping up. With DH currently unemployed we're making these huge cuts and it's really difficult to adjust. We just bought our house last May and are 100% dependent on both our salaries for mortgage and all the rest of the bills. Plus I'm a really expensive pregnant lady since I'm at the doctor like every week already. Just ugh. So we had to have the big bad talk this weekend about potentially selling and downsizing and what point we need to act on that. I didn't want to get to the point where we've drained our savings and started dipping into retirement / investment accounts before having the conversation. It went well but there's just a lot of stress involved.

    Questions?
    Nope!

GTKY: What is something you said before you became a parent that you’d never do as a parent but now you actually do do??
Oh my if I had a nickel lol! I was going to be this super perfect, no screen time, home made meals always, never raises my voice, super mom and yeah.... reality sets in quickly and I found my new normal. Kiddo gets screen time pretty much every day and there are several cans of chef boy-r-dee in my cupboard. But he's happy and thriving and that's all that matters :) For me it was all about finding that balance.

  • @scottishlass1213 I have one.  I'd suggest trying them on in a local store to get the size right.  I was so unsure about sizing because I didn't know what my boobs were going to do so I ended up getting a size larger than I normally would have, but it was too big and I had a hard time getting a tough fit with DD in there.  I definitely suggest sizing down.  I liked it though and plan to use it again (planning to get one in the right size this time).

How far along are you? Size of baby?
16w5d - whatever size that is? Avocado I guess?

    Age(s) of other kid(s)?
    DD is 13 months

    How are you feeling?
I'm sooo grumpy and feel anxious all the time. I feel like I never get any time to relax. I know this is only going to get worse with 2 babies and I am just really stressing out and mourning the lack of "me time" that parenthood brings.  The only time I got to myself was my trip to the grocery store. Sigh.

    Rants/Raves?
    Lol see above

    Questions?
Those of you with 2 kids already...did you notice that you got bigger faster but then leveled off?  I'm getting big really quickly and I'm worried none of my maternity clothes are going to fit!  Some of the stuff I wore at 40+ weeks pregnant last time already feels like it did at 40 weeks..  Please tell me it evens out soon.

GTKY: What is something you said before you became a parent that you’d never do as a parent but now you actually do do??
I can't really think of anything.  I was always really flexible thinking about the things we'd do/not do.  The only stuff I can think of is related to discipline, but all for older, school-aged kids.  We aren't there yet, so ask me again in 5 years.   :D
  • @juliebird6 so you felt the sizing they told you on the website was off then?
  • @juliebird6 I feel like I'm getting bigger faster, but mostly in my belly. My thighs and butt are definitely spreading, but considering I haven't gained as much weight overall yet, I'm assuming it's mostly in my belly. I feel like my organs just knew where to go and what to do. I also feel like I might be carrying differently because I don't have an Anterior placenta this time. Just the random thoughts I have about that.
    *Siggy Warning*

  • @scottlishlass1213 - no, I'm just dumb and ordered up because I was worried about my boobs being too big for a small.  According to their size chart, I should have ordered a small, but I got one when I was already pregnant and my boobs/rib cage were definitely not a small lol.  I got the medium thinking I would need it because I would be bigger, but not necessary.  If you wear a small, definitely get the small.
  • @lalala2004 - the state fair sounds like so much fun! I don't have two little ones like you will have but are you open to the idea of the backpack like @princesslockness suggested? We're probably going to have to do that for E when this little comes along, he's a runner! Would your older DS be ok being in the stroller for the fair or would he be happier being out and about?

@scottishlass1213 - we got the baby k'tan when E was about 6 months old I think? He hated the Moby wrap so we needed another option. Ditto @juliebird6 - size down! I'm normally a size 14 with H breasts and I use a medium. The medium even worked for DH who is 6'5 but it was a tad tight once E got bigger so we got him a large. The large for me put too much pressure on my shoulders as opposed to spreading it across the back and E could lean too far back, he kept trying to escape!

@juliebird6 - I definately got bigger faster this time - I look 6 months already. Hoping things slow down a bit but I'm not looking forward to the summer heat already!  Also I get not having any 'me' time. Any chance you can turn a grocery shopping trip into a trip to the bookstore or cafe to just sit and relax for a bit? Or go for some serious TLC and get a massage / mani/pedi?

@princesslockness - so glad you're feeling better! And enjoy your day off with your kiddos!

  • @princesslockness @mrsbubbles-2 yes, we definitely have a backpack leash! I even used it some with DS last year, but he hadn't been walking for long, so he was a little spastic about it. He's a little less wild now, and I'm sure will be even less so by then. And of course, with season passes we can go in the morning and not feel like we have to stay all day. The more I think about it the more I think it will work.

  • @mrsbubbles-2 Ours came from the zoo. We went with just a stroller, thinking L would run everywhere, and realized we needed a leash. So grandma and him went and picked one out. He does live the stroller, but it is a PITA to get him in and out as he insists on being fully buckled every time.

  • Thanks girls! The K'tan will have to just be for me since I am petite and DH is 6'4" hahaha But I don't envision him baby wearing anyways. I am pretty sure we have our old ergo stuffed away somewhere if he wanted to - I just didn't care for it.
  • @scottishlass1213 I had the baby K'TAn with my first and ended up returning it. I can't remember specifically what I didn't like about it though, it just wasn't right. I used a Sakura Bloom ring sling while he was little, and then moved to the Ergo. I plan to do the same this time around.

I can’t really think of anything, the only thing I said I’d never do is let our kids sleep in our bed and I’ve stuck to that.
  • @riverbed and @lalala2004 Is the ring sling relatively easy? I don't want to be struggling wrapping, etc.

    Rants/Raves?
Went in for my 16 week appointment (a few days late). They couldn't find the baby's heartbeat and sent me to the other end of town (30 min away) for an ultrasound. My appointment was in a large hospital with labor and delivery, but apparently no ultrasound techs available anywhere. Oh well. All is good with the baby and the ultrasound tech even took a peek at the gender and put the results in an envelope so I can surprise my husband tonight. Now I just have to avoid peeking for the next 12+ hours.
    Questions?
    None
GTKY: What is something you said before you became a parent that you’d never do as a parent but now you actually do do??
I swore we'd never let him sleep in our bed.....I was wrong. He doesn't do it often, but every now and then we let him stay with us and it's kinda sweet.

@lalala2004 - I'm due in the middle of our state fair and I'm still planning on going both before and after the kiddo is due. I haven't missed a fair yet, and I don't intend to. Good luck!! It's worth the hassle for the great food and people watching. Nothing makes you feel better about yourself than watching others at the fair :)

Was basically dying of allergies yesterday. It stormed all night and calmed down the pollen, I think. I’m better today. Not all better but better. And I’m doing major cleaning on the house today which reallt hasn’t happened since BFP. So yay!
    Rants/Raves?
MIL and I decided to make one more trip to Florida before SO comes back for good. I’m so excited. This time we are taking all the kids. And ex SO even sending extra money to help make it happen. He’s completely uninvolved but whenever I ask for more money, he’s on it. Sometimes it feels like he’s buying away his guilt? Idk.
    Questions?
    Nada

GTKY: What is something you said before you became a parent that you’d never do as a parent but now you actually do do??
Well, when they were younger I was major on “no phones” but now the two older ones have iPhones and the 4 year old has an iPad. And it’s so they have a way to communicate with their dad. But I do collection days and take them all. Or if they are in trouble, they lose them first. It’s a great tool for punishment lol.
I also never wanted girly girls but turns out I have no control over that. Lol. #2 loves dresses and doing her nails and dirt. #1 hates dresses but loves fashion. She’s anti makeup but uses Nair to get rid of her leg hair. She’s very prom. #3 is too young to care still.
  • How far along are you? Size of baby? 16w3d baby is an avocado

    Age(s) of other kid(s)?
    3 and 5

    How are you feeling?
I think I'm depressed and I will be talking to my OB at my next visit. My dad basically told me yesterday I'm a disappointment, I'm the cause of all of my family's problems, I'm being selfish by keeping the baby and only thinking about myself, and I'm ruining everyone's lives. Add this on to all of the stress I've had over the past week and I just feel like I'm hitting bottom.

    Rants/Raves?
See above. I'm sure everyone's tired of hearing about my family shit but I think I'm more tired of it than anyone. I just want to be happy.

    Questions?
    Nope.

GTKY: What is something you said before you became a parent that you’d never do as a parent but now you actually do do??
I was firmly against screen time and now both kids have two ipads (don't ask). Tablets save my sanity so I give zero fucks.

Add me to the ring sling team. I hate wrapping, the moby, and the k'tan. Wayyyyyy too much fabric for me.

I’d say there is a slight learning curve, but it’s easier than a wrap like the Moby or something. I think a soft structured carrier is easier, but not all of them work for little babies as easily. And a good ring sling is good until they’re a toddler, unlike stretchy wraps.

Don't ever worry about us being tired of listening - absolutely not, that's what we're here for. And we'll be there to celebrate the good times together too. So many hugs. <3

And @ecwk I got a chuckle about your before having a kid philosophies! Yup, same same same.

    Rants/Raves?
Obviously my rant is the hormone crap. Raves is my husband has been super awesome lately dealing with my highs and lows like a trooper. Not today.

GTKY: What is something you said before you became a parent that you’d never do as a parent but now you actually do do??
Probably the whole "no screen time" thing lol ... oops.
  • @calimom2524  I'm so sorry.  I do think it's great to explore talking to someone though about it.  Is your mom saying the same things too?

@ecwk I have felt but the last few days I feel like I haven't as much so I was freaking out. I pulled out my first pregnancy journal to compare and I claimed to have felt it 18 weeks last time and 20 weeks from the outside, so we'll see.

Also I was not going to make purees. The store has those in jars for a reason... smdh.

@mrsbubbles-2 I'm hoping he finds a job soon. How is his search going?

  • Thanks, ladies. @scottishlass1213 my mom has stayed pretty quiet, I know she's against me having the baby but she hasn't really been saying anything. • @calimom2524 Maybe someday I can go into detail with you privately but I just want to say that I’ve been there. In the midst of a divorce and my family all angry at me. My ex left me. They all blamed me. It was horrible. It’s been a couple years and she’s come around. But it got really rough. My dad was like your mom. Didn’t say much but I knew he wasn’t thrilled. But he never said anything bad. My mom was like your dad. She was mad and let the whole world know. I was a horrible person and an embarrassment to the family. Your situation is different in that you live with them. And that does make it a lot harder. I can only imagine. But it won’t be like this forever. Nobody can be angry at a cute little baby. Hugs.
  • @dirtanddiamonds thank you for sharing your experience. I hate that I'm 31 and still need "validation" from my parents.

Thank you everyone for your support, seriously. I know we don't all even really "know" each other but just knowing I have somewhere I can go and word vomit all of these crazy feelings I have is so helpful. Luckily SO has been such a saint with all of this too. I haven't seen him in 2 weeks because I isolate myself when I get down and he has been nothing but wonderful and understanding about it all. I'm really looking forward to feeling up about things again, being down just sucks.

    Age(s) of other kid(s)?
    15m

    How are you feeling?
Mostly fine, I tire easier when I'm hauling him around all day, but kid is heavy!

    Rants/Raves?
I can't think of much?  We had a good weekend, lots of fun activities for the little guy.  First swim lessons.  It was fun!

    Questions?
    I can't think of anything?

+1 on the co-sleeping.  Logical me knows the dangers, but exhausted me knows the dangers of that too.  Sometimes you do whatcha gotta do.  Mostly this has happened when traveling and he hates whatever crib/pnp he has to sleep in, or when he's sick.

Letting anyone see me nursing.  I'm very private about my body and it just isn't me.  But day 1 home from the hospital my BFF was holding my unlatchable newborn while I pumped in front of her.  Zero F's given.  I still don't BF openly in public though, that's just not me.

We don't do screen time, but there are moments I would LOVE for a screen to distract the wild toddler for 5 minutes, but it doesn't work.

Other than that I'm pretty much exactly the over-controlling mom I knew I would be.  I don't let anyone else drive with him in the car besides DH.  I have only let my mom babysit.  DH has never picked out an outfit or even a meal for DS without checking with me first.  Yep, I'm controlling.

ARGH! I typed out responses to almost all of you and TB ate most of my comment as it posted. Annoying.

@lalala2004 I think you'd be fine to go as long as your mom knows she'd need to wrangle the toddler, and it'd probably make it easier on yourself if you planned to babywear for that.

@scottishlass1213 I have a baby k'tan and while I liked it for the first few weeks, it's really not great for long term. I'd recommend a ring sling or a Free-to-Grow Tula so you can use it wayyy longer.

@calimom2524 Sending all the hugs! I hope your parents come around soon. We're all here for you.

    How are you feeling?
Pretty good except for this terrible cold.

    Rants/Raves?
Felt baby boy kick from the outside this morning for the first time! He apparently hates when I cough, so he's been kicking all day during my coughing fits.

    Questions?
    Nope

Bed share. We were all about cosleeping with the bassinet, but not in our bed. DS had other plans, and after spending 6.5 weeks in the NICU separated from us, he decided he was going to literally attach himself to me at all times. I loved it though. All 14 months of it

    DSwill be 3 in May

    How are you feeling?
Cranky. I also moved to get off the couch from a sitting position last night and something in my left lower abdomen pulled HARD. It felt a lot deeper than just a muscle pull and literally stopped me in my tracks. I'm still a little sore today and of course my crazy anxiety ridden brain is like oh my gosh is everything okay?!

    Rants/Raves?
Rant: my manager is horrible at managing. My company prides itself on putting employees first and 'leading' not managing, and she is the epitome of a micro-manager. She got promoted to the role last April and it's been a really rough transition. Today was a rough day all around with her.
Rave: I have an appointment on Wednesday and I'm excited to hopefully her the baby's heartbeat! We heard it at 8 weeks at our U/S, but she couldn't find the HB with the doppler at my appointment early February, so she used a handheld u/s device (no sound).

    Questions?
    None today!

GTKY: What is something you said before you became a parent that you’d never do as a parent but now you actually do do??
I don't know if I said I would never do things, but I thought I'd be more of a stickler on screen time than I am. DS isn't in front of a screen constantly, but TV shows and movies have definitely saved us on road trips, weekends in the winter when we're all going stir crazy and when I just need to get stuff done! He loves his tablet and I have no shame!

  • @livinthesunnylife One of my responses that was eaten by TB was to you lol. I am the same over protective type. I worked damn hard to have my rainbow baby, so you bet your butt I'm going to be a helicopter! The only family we have nearby is DH's but they're all incompetent for different reasons unless it's a major emergency and they're our only option. My mom works for an airline, so when we need a babysitter, we just have her fly in for the week/weekend. It's annoying but it works!

  • @elsieisamoocow Yup!  I totally hear you.  MIL is in town but she mostly watches BIL's kids.

Last weekend we went over there and MIL was in the kitchen and left the baby (6m) up on the couch in the living room.  I said, "oh, is she rolling over yet?"  MIL: "yes, she rolls really good both ways".

Ok you idiot, well then let's get her off the couch when nobody is in the room.  This, this right here is why you can't watch my kids.  Common sense.
  • My kid bit another kid at daycare. She's at a small in home with a bunch of kids of a  variety of ages. She says she's biting because people take her toys. We've talked about asking for help, we've punished, done a prize chart. I'm just so insanely frustrated. I don't know if the teacher is keeping an eye on the situation or what. I feel like my kid is getting all the blame when others are taking her toys. And I am totally not a blame shifter. Trust me, my kid gets punoshed, and I will never let her get away with behavior like that. I just don't know what to do.
  • @7425cait How old are the other kids that she has bitten?  DS has been bitten a couple times at daycare, but he's younger and I think it's a teething thing more than anything.  I feel like biting at daycare is pretty normal and teaching them to make it stop has to happen immediately or it's hard for them to understand.  I'm not sure there's much else you can do except keep talking to her about it and rewarding the good behavior?
