Re: Symptoms {March edition}

  • @becca_123 I was debating a humidifier - even a personal one - but wasn't sure if maybe someone else had a better idea before I got one.

    Damn you pregnancy lol

  • Just had one bite of a nectarine (which I was so excited that they're in season finally) and instant heartburn and regret. It's so bad I'm tempted to toss the rest of them out of spite and saddness.

  • Acne. I have a delightful spray of red rash-like acne on both cheeks. Yay.

Vaginal pain and pelvic stiffness. I officially have a big belly and it is causing me to waddle around. Really need to get to the physical therapist and probably do kegals or special exercises; the vaginal pressure is unreal and not a great sign for muscle strength during birth.

Bloody noses. I will try nose spray. Thank you for the suggestion!

Heartburn. :( I have tablets for this, but they're only so effective.
  • My midwife recommended trying a PPI(proton pump inhibitor) like Prevacid for my ridiculous heartburn.  The Zantac I was taking wasn't cutting it and I was taking the maximum strength daily and even twice a day sometimes plus needing tums. Might be worth asking your OB about @=caenis=

I haven't picked it up to start yet so can't attest to how effective is.

  • @MissKittyDanger Yeah, the gum bleeding thing is real. I've been dealing with it for awhile. It seems to get worse some days and it looks like I murdered someone in my sink.

I can join y'all in having difficulty turning over in bed. I sound hilarious though: grunting and panting. Lol!

  • @marcus7676 That’s hilarious! I make DD pick most things up off the floor too.

So I usually sit on the closed toilet while the kids are playing in the bath. Tonight it jacked my hips and back up so much. I’m not looking forward to the pain level these next 10 weeks or so.

  • For those with hip / pelvic pain: I asked my doctor about it this morning and she said that it is totally typical and didn't seem at all surprised, even with the lightening crotch.  She recommended (1) for hip / pelvic pain, to get an abdominable binder and wear it whenever (including to sleep); (2) if the lightening pains continue, to try cat/cow to move the maybe; and (3) to stop any movement like twisting (especially in bed).  She said it is unbearable for 3-4 days to call, but if it is only bad after more activity, not to worry as much.  Achiness every day is also normal.
  • So much trouble sleeping lately!  It's a combo of multiple bathroom trips, hip/pelvic pain, anxiety, random not being able to sleep, and DH snoring.

I have huge dark circles under my eyes... such a good look..

  • Sleeping is a PITA. Sleeping on my left side is comfortable but I can't do it all night long because eventually that side gets sore. So then I turn over but the right side is just not as comfortable. Sleeping on my back is actually still comfortable but I'm paranoid since "they say" you shouldn't. I can't imagine what it's gonna be like when I get bigger because I'm only 24 weeks now :bawling:

  • Sleeping sucks. I always wake up in the middle of the night with restless legs and it drives me crazy. Also, my bladder is never empty. I can pee, stand up, sit back down right away and pee again. So annoying.
  • One trick I always use when turning over in bed is to grab my headboard as I do it to help steady myself. Don't know why, but this helps.
  • @elsie42 That is exactly how I'm sleeping right now - although my right side is more comfortable.  I really wish I could lay on my back too but again, paranoia.  I don't have issues rolling over or anything yet but sleep itself has been rough lately.  It takes me a while to fall asleep in the first place but then when DH comes to bed around 2am I wake up and toss and turn.  I basically never got back to a deep sleep this morning and it's been like that for almost a week now except for the first night I put the humidifier on.  I have no clue what's up!  I want to sleep.
  • I finally went to the chiropractor for this SPD/sciatica whatever issue I have going on. She was wonderful and did a bunch of movement testing since she couldn't do xrays. Said my whole body is way out of line, which obviously is normal. I have slightly inverted? vertebrae which is common in people who are at a computer a lot, I have a very angry sacral area and an uneven, rotated pelvis. Basically a normal pregnant woman.

The least of my worries, my neck, felt so incredibly good after the adjustment. Even that normal pull when you stretch your neck was gone and so was my never ending headache. My back is the same still, but because the muscles were so tight, she had a hard time adjusting my lower half. I go back on Saturday for an hour massage and another adjustment. She said because of our relaxin, the adjustments don't typically hold as long but said to just be my own judge of when I need to see her. On the bright side, she bills the insurance for the adjustment and "deep tissue manipulation" and I pay $50.

Just thought I'd throw it out there for anyone who has someone in their area trained in prenatal care since I know so many of us are suffering with the same issues.
  • Turning over in bed, I basically use my body pillow.

If I'm on left and wanna go right, I use the fact my leg is up and shove myself over to my right.
If I'm on my right, I use my H's legs {depending on how he's sleeping} and do the same. Or just make my life difficult, and turn with my face down. Stretches my back also, so I don't mind.
  • last week or so @LaceyBee522 recommended a shredded memory foam body pillow for sleeping because I was having horrible hip/low back pain and it has really helped! I ordered this one and actually took a little bit of the stuffing out because it was a bit too firm and now it is perfect. It's easy to flip around it to switch from my right to left side. The midwife did say that I should be alternating sides not sticking to the left side like "they say."

@elsie42 have you read Expecting Better? There is a section on back sleeping that was very informative. Basically it's probably not a big deal and you would wake yourself up and switch positions before you pass out or before anything were to happen. However, there was still a study that she mentioned that found that back sleeping had an increased risk of still birth. I can't remember the exact statistics but it's good to get both sides of the story and the evidence so you can make you're own decision.

My last recommendation for lack of sleep is under eye concealer. I love the Tarte Shape Tape. It is full coverage but wont crease, if you set it. Also the tube is huge so it lasts a long time. As it starts to dry out I will spray my beauty blender with a facial mist before blending it out. But I've had the tube I've been going on for like 6 months and it's just now starting to dry out.

  • the constipation is so real guys. I don't remember it this bad with DS. I know Colace is safe, but should I really be taking it every day for the next 11 weeks? I'm thinking now lol. I almost want to start taking 2 a day! the bottle says that's fine but ya know.

I need to drastically up my fiber intake or something.

  • @catlady1215 you could also try adding chia seeds to something you eat (yogurt? smoothie?). I don't personally like them once they've sat for a while, but they're completely flavorless and just seem like poppy seeds if you eat them immediately after sprinkling. They sort of....... gel up? Once they "bloom" in liquid, so if that takes place in your stomach/intestines, it makes it a lot easier to move through your body. It's sort of like a weird version of metamucil, if you understand the mechanism of action for metamucil... Although, I probably only know that from working on how to explain how it works to doctors... sigh.

@doxiemoxie212 I used to put chia seeds in my salad like a year ago. probably still have the bag of them. I never noticed a difference, unless I wasn't using enough or that wasn't the right way to use them lol. I have been thinking about smoothies so maybe i'll try that! thanks!

  • @catlady1215 I take a magnesium supplement (natural calm) which is supposed to help with sleep.  On the bottle, it says you know you are taking enough when your "bowels are comfortably loose."  Maybe that could help?
  • @catlady1215 Maybe in addition to the chia seeds, you could also try flax (seeds or meal) too? I know when I first started using them both, I noticed a big difference. I add two Tbsp. each to my morning smoothies.
  • @catlady1215 If you're good for apple sauce, I know some Mott's have high fiber. It might just be the raspberry though. I also went through online list of foods that have extra fiber - like berries - and amped up those. I prefer @kfren suggestion of flax seeds - better flavour
  • @catlady1215 I’m pretty sure I was taking it at least twice during my first pregnancy. My OB said it was fine, even over treat (within reason) to get things moving, then scale back.

Has anyone considered pelvic floor PT post pregnancy? Kegals are not cutting it. I’m not sure why I’m having so many “pee leaks” as a CS mom, but clearly the floor is weak.
  • @starla487 I'm a PT and have a few friends who specialize in pelvic floor PT. I'm considering going myself after I have this one to work on strengthening my floor muscles...I did my own modified version with what I could at home after DD and it definitely helped, but I definitely need more strengthening this time around...
  • @starla487 I'm going to ask about PT postpartum.  Between my hip pain, public pain and inability to walk / cough at the same time, I need some help. I tore really badly and expect it again this time. I know PT is recommended for those with tears too.
  • Thanks for the suggestions ladies! I decided this AM, this is the part of pregnancy I dislike the most lol.

  • Oh also. I told DH last night that i wish my hips weren't so sore and screwed up. Cause squating down and getting back up made me think about how awesome my ass could look if I could start doing some squats with this extra 20 lbs im supporting now. Then we both laughed cause after 3 he'd probably find me on the floor.
Right!? With the amount of back/hip stretches I do, it flexes butt muscles {I can feel it} so here's hoping to a great post-pregnancy ass :')
  • I only had a few days of constipation in my first tri. Not sure if this is typical but I eat the following with zero constipation issues: oatmeal with peanut butter (for protein) for breakfast and two slices of high fiber bread/toast for lunch (Dave's Killer Bread). I typically try to eat at least one banana too, which I've been told works for both constipation and diarrhea! Pickles, baby carrots, strawberries and grapes are my go-to snacks alongside some whole grain crackers and cheese - I often make a snack plate a few hours after dinner with some combo of these to share with MH while we Netflix and chill. I also just destroyed two jars of pickled beets this past week. :#

  • Recently I was talking to my dr {GP not OB} and mentioned about "swamp crotch" {without saying those words lol} and she gave me a suggestion that may help.

Couple options - baby wipe after using bathroom or if you're taking a bath, sprinkle in some baking soda. It'll help the pH balance without throwing anything completely off and still safe.

I have some a family member made for xmas {lavender oil drops, baking soda & food colouring} and I also confirmed that's a safe combo in case anyone has or finds a mix :)
  • I think I have it all backwards as I had the bloody nose/snot from the first tri, all day, every day. It's still bloody, but far less since going into the second tri. I also didn't really have any morning sickness in the first tri except for the occasional queasy moments that subsided in less than a minute, but now I'm starting to get nauseous in the evenings?? WTH?
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • @catlady1215 +1 to evenings being the worst. My belly feels multiple times bigger and heavier by the time 6pm hits.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @catlady1215 @2589 Same here. I feel the pressure/tingling in the evenings the most, so uncomfortable. Sleep sucks, too, I can only lay on one side for so long before that hip starts to ache. Body pillow is only helping minimally. Purchased a mattress topper from Costco and then read all these questionable things about what it could be off-gassing so returned it. FML.
