@harleyquinn0621 bed rest isn’t recommended anymore. It can easily do more harm than good, as your body can’t fight of PTL. I’d double check with another doc before agreeing to br for the next 6 months.

@princesslockness strict bedrest is only over the weekend....after that he just wants me sitting more than standing (example- going out to dinner is fine....long grocery store trips are not) is that still not recommended ?

@harleyquinn0621 Yeah my doc said to "take it easy" and don't do any activity for like a week after my cerclage. I could go to work and stuff, but I shouldn't work out or anything like that until my post-op appointment.
After that, I didn't have any restrictions regarding activity - besides no jumping or anything high impact. I don't think 'sitting more than standing' constitutes as bed rest, though - I think that's just being cautious and taking it waaay easy the next 6 months. I was also told pelvic rest and no sex just to reduce chance of infection.
Do you know what your cervix was measuring when they put the cerclage in? With your previous history, maybe your doc is just being super cautious. I don't have a short cervix per se - I just got a cerclage because of my deformed uterus, so it was more of a preventative thing than something that's been proven to be needed.
With E my cervix was 4mm when the cerclage went in. Bed rest or taking it easy still wasn’t the recommendation.
I was told no high impact, but I didn’t have to stop doing what I was already used to doing. So ‘don’t start running again, but keep demonstrating at softball’ type of things.

Thank you ladies! It’s nice to hear other ladies experience with this, since the cerclage is new to me. I have a follow up with him on Monday 3/12 and will question more about the restricted activities
it might be he is just being extra cautious- last time by 19 weeks I was 3cm dialated and chorio had set in.....but he is really good about answering my questions really well, so I’ll definitely talk to him
not sure what my length was, but I did ask him how my cervix looked and he said everything looked good and based on my anatomy he got the cerclage as high up as he could - so it sounded like it all went well

Hi ladies, super late joining the board. Forgive me I don't have the bump abbreviations down yet.
How far along are you?
16+5
Why are you high-risk?
Reoccurring early loss, diabetes, pcos, sch, placetal aburption, ED history relapse last fall, geriatric (ha ha 33) pregnancy.
Any additional monitoring or testing this week? Appointment with endo and nutritionist. Next week with obgyn.
Rants/Raves/Questions? After losing my son at 26 weeks last September, we met with a MFM who told me I was fat and needed to cut my calories in 1/2. He refused to review my chart and see my history of an eating disorder and he didn't believe me when I told him my a1c was a 5 after completely stopping my insulin. His test came back with a 4.9. He saw my fitness pal food logs and said I had to be lying about portions or not logging all of my food. He was abusive and rude. Between him amd my grief triggered a major relapse and I had been doing well for the last 10 years. I lost over 50lbs prior to that pregnancy. I started this pregnancy in a really unhealthy place and I want more than anything to be successful. We have a large SCH during the first trimester which put me on modified best rest (ie no exercise, take it easy after work, no lifting). Inspite of my restrictions and my closely monitored calorie intake I am still losing not gaining and getting chewed out every appointment. My sugars are great average last week was 105. I am on a cgm. Minimal dose on long lasting insulin and fast acting with dinner only.
GTKY: What is the best gift you have been given? My boys. My struggle with secondary infertility has taught me what a blessing they are.
Glad the cerclage went well. Holy handcuffs! Sorry about family drama everyone.
@busymama84 hi and welcome! I am so very very sorry for your losses. I really hope this is an incredibly boring pregnancy for you.
I’m sorry your MFM is such an ass, any chance of seeing a different doctor in the practice?
There are lots of us here with diabetes, some pre existing and some gestational. This is a wonderful community and we’re here for support or just to listen if you need to unload. Again, welcome!
@busymama84 welcome! I agree with mrsbubbles, if you can get another MFM I suggest it, high risk pregnancies are hard enough without adding to it with a crappy attitude from the medical team that is supposed to be supporting you

@busymama84 Welcome! I'm so sorry for your losses, and wish you the best on this journey.
I'm so sorry for your shitty MFM encounter. I will admit that I have a very negative impression of MFMs in general. During my last pregnancy one gave me bad news (that my baby wasn't growing well) and then told me I was overreacting and left me alone in the room balling my eyes out. Outside of my experience as a patient I also work with a number of MFMs professionally (I'm in the medical field) and find that for some reason the field attracts the most unpleasant personality types, akin to cardiothoracic surgeons. I'm sure there are nice ones out there, but I haven't met them yet. Anyway, f%#& him. And good for you for having such a fantastic A1c!

@redheadbride15 that makes me feel lucky that I have a really good MFM this round, I didn’t realize how rare they were! Although one of the MFMs in the practice was definitely a jackass and unfortunately I dealt with him when I lost my 19w .... but the one I have now is so patient and amazing with me

I have quite a bit of trauma from my last men, but absolutely love my current one. I didn't realize most of them were such jerks. I'm grateful I got a good one this time and definitely recommend finding a new one if your current one sucks bc it won't get better...
Ugh, so sorry you ladies are dealing with or have had to deal with crappy MFM. I had one recommended to me but ended up seeing someone else in the practice and found him to be very pleasant. If you have access to an L&D nurse or anyone in the field, ask them for a recommendation.
