Friday is our routine 24 week appointment buuut it's more exciting because it is our first appointment with the Midwife. We talked with our OB at the 20 week appointment about our general birth plan and in a more colorful way she basically told us we would be better off with the midwives. It's nice because they are both a part of the same group and birth at the same hospital but there are over 30 OB's any one of whom could be on call when we give birth but only 8 midwives. When we were thinking about making the switch MH basically explained it as we will get the same OB that is on call regardless of if we labor with them the whole time or if we labor with a midwife and need to call an OB if there is a problem. I think having a midwife will greatly reduce my anxiety about being "forced" or pressured into something I don't want that might not necessarily be necessary.

not an apt, but another thyroid check later this week. dealing with my endo office this pregnancy (well, and before pregnancy) has been such a stress factor. luckily, I go see her Monday so I'm not even going to deal with them. but I'm just praying this large dose helped. or else I'm going to start being alittle concerned wtf else we can do here.

I just logged into my patient portal and found out I passed my 1-hour glucose tolerance test! Woooo! I ended up having to take the 3-hour test last time, so this is very exciting.

@krashke my practice used to work like that and I loved it. I selected a midwife delivery half way through my pregnancy and had a midwife at the hospital. I had never met her before, but she was great. Unfortunately, I needed an OB (two OBs!) due to heart decels, but my midwife stayed the whole delivery too, which was awesome. She was able to explain things in a much more personal way, as opposed to the OBs who were like vacuum or c-section, now.
All the appointments this week. -meeting w/ gestational diabetes dietician. Round two for GD. Fingers crossed we can stay insulin free this time! Tuesday(today) -MFM ultrasound referral for better pics of this LOs heart. Thursday. -standard prenatal appointment. Next Monday, so not technically this week.
Had my appt today. He said next appt we'll schedule my glucose test/bloodwork and do the tdap. I dislike shots, but always get the tdap because pertussis scares the crap put of me. (Also I can't call myself provax if I don't get them, lol)
Hey question about glucose test ..... has anyone felt sick or almost passed out? About 15mins after I drank it {they chilled it, so wasn't bad } I felt sick. I thought I could power through and the feeling would pass, but after 10-ish mins it didn't and I told the nurse. I got whisked away to the back room with a bin in case.
I wasn't sick, but just wondering if anyone else experienced it? I know it's not uncommon {also told my OB - both her and nurse advised it's not uncommon. Nurse said likely because I have a tiny stature.}
Also, in anyone else's experience, could this mean a pass or fail on the test?
@misskittydanger i had a coworker who's daughter drank her stuff, was in the waiting room, then ran and threw up in the trash can... while vomiting, she peed herself. So yah, I think it can definitely do different things to different people. I don't know if they even finished her test in the state she was in. But they skipped the drink the next time and used jelly beans.

@MissKittyDanger I felt crappy after drinking it, although not quite to your extreme. I was slightly lightheaded, generally nauseous and just not feeling well. My results came back at a 73. Think feeling so awful for me was probably the extreme drop into a semi-low number--lower than my typical fasting glucose.
@MissKittyDanger I got sick during the 3-hour GTT with DS1. I attribute it though to my OB, who decided to start talking to me very graphically about what could go wrong during my VBAC.
Had my OB appointment today. No glucose test because I was a week early (I'm not in town next week). Will be going again in two weeks.
@MissKittyDanger I got light headed and felt sick during my early glucose test. The nurse took me back and had me sit down and sip water. The water seemed to help a lot.
@MissKittyDanger I didn't fast either. I had 2 eggs with some cheese about an hour and a half before. I just found it weird that I rebounded back lower than previous fasting numbers. My doctor wasn't concerned about it, but I swear they are concerned with almost nothing anyways so who knows. I too felt like absolute junk for the whole day--almost like a hungover feeling.
@amys614 YES! HANGOVER! That's it! Lol I couldn't place it, but I'm not a huge drinker so it's been awhile since I had a hangover. I ended up sipping on a smoothie later and that seemed to help better than when I ate. My OB and nurse weren't super concerned, I think they're curious on what the results will be since it bottomed out lmao
So I was just looking at paperwork about a transvaginal ultrasound and did some googling {possibly uh-oh, I know} but maybe some STMs can help me out.
They're looking at measuring my cervix. Google says it's to see if it's thinning out. I'm only 25.5 weeks. OB didn't say why they're doing it, but my guess is she doesn't want to scare me if nothing is wrong. Did anyone else experience this? Should I be concerned or do something until I get results back?
@MissKittyDanger they did a transvaginal on me at my anatomy scan, at 19 weeks. You are correct, it is to measure the length of your cervix. The US tech said it can help determine whether you may go into pre term labor. I would not freak out, if you were in trouble doctor would've discussed for sure!
@stephcat421 I figured google wasn't lying, but it's always so hard to tell! She didn't seem too concerned, but did say "sooner than later" My guess is she doesn't want to scare me when it could be no issues. As a FTM I knew the second I hit 'search' it would freak me out :')
@MissKittyDanger Don't freak out!! Seriously, from what I can tell this is super-normal. I know I'm a weirdo having twins, but I've had a transvaginal US at every single one of my ultra sound appointments. On top of that, even if my OB doesn't do a regular US, she does do a TV to check my cervix. The words you want to hear are "long and closed".
@MissKittyDanger yeah kind of caught me off guard when they did that too! What do you mean when she said sooner than later? You mean the tech said that about checking it out?

Originally I chalked it up to "oh it's about the testing for UTI" then I started thinking it didn't make sense ...
And no, my OB said "sooner than later" when I asked about timeline of when I should book the ultrasound

I don't think ultrasound tech will tell me, but I'm gonna ask after I get it done how long it'll take for them to get it. I'm calling next week about my glucose test, so I just wanna ensure all is good. I know last ultrasound - in January for anatomy round 2 lol - they had to do TV because they couldn't get a good reading and there was no issues.
@misskittydanger I have no experience. And haven't done any TV ones later in pregnancy. But I would bet if there was a reason for concern your OB would put you on pelvic rest or something. So I'd try to just not google, just go do it and not stress.

@marcus7676 Definitely. OB told me they were measuring it after she used measuring tape on my belly, and the requisition says assessing cervical length
@catlady1215 Be lucky you haven't had TV ultrasound. They did one to measure cervical length back in January {22 weeks ish} because baby wasn't moving for tech to measure it from regular one. You half expect dinner after having one lol
@twelvetwosomeonenew Did they have you do a 2nd test? Urg I really don't wanna do it again, so hoping I passed! I feel like my OB wouldn't say anything to not freak me out until after - not to be mean, but more like "let's figure out if it's worth being concerned before worrying over nothing" {which I'm hoping it's nothing!}
@MissKittyDanger don't stress about feeling like crap. I had GD last go round so they made me test early at 14 weeks - I literally felt like I might pass out by the time they drew my blood and was terrified that meant I failed...got my results back a week later and my blood sugar was 56! I really was probably about to pass out from bottoming out...can't wait to do it again at 28 weeks, but hoping it's the last time. But be assured your response doesn't mean you failed at all
Just called - dr wasn't in so I couldn't get a clear answer on why the ultrasound BUT I passed glucose test! Limit is 7.9 and I'm 4.9 - low but not overly concerning they said.
Legit, the nurse was like "you can have ice cream for dinner" :')
@izza2 I had to choose between hangry and bring both kids to my appt. I choose hangry because my 1.5yo would be a nightmare having to sit in a waiting room for an hour plus.

& try not to stress too bad about the trans-vag, your OB would have let you know if it was super concerning.
