Made a second round of calls to insurance and confirmed they cover Maternity21 but not Harmony (so one is free, one is $625). There's no reason I can think of except they said maybe my insurance has an agreement with one and not the other, so I guess I am going with Maternity21 next week!

My dr swears by MaterniT 21. The nurse said he trusts it highly and rarely will do an amnio after those results because they're pretty accurate.
Just had my blood draw for the Harmony test yesterday. The company is not in network with my insurance so if (when) they deny it I will only be billed $199 bythe company that does the test. They said 1-2 weeks for results.
Anyone have any experience with Progenity? Trying to decide whether to do the tests or not... it is the only company my dr office goes through, they have a “peace of mind” plan Incase insurance doesn’t cover cost... I’m just having a hard time with not knowing exactly how much it’ll cost. Insurance hasn’t been helpful in giving me a definite answer on if I’m covered or not.
@cagncoo12 can you call the company for an estimate? Sequenom gives you an estimate over the phone based on your insurance.
@taylorleigh012 usually 1-2 weeks. How they tell you will depend on your Dr. Mine calls with the results. Did you just get a finger prick, or did they take 1-2 vials of blood?

Call the company. They can use your insurance info to give you a quote. My ob makes us do this before our first appt so there are no surprises. My insurance contact wasn’t helpful either, I had to call the test provider directly.

This is the company my doctors office uses as well. My insurance told me that if my doctor determines I have risk factors then it's covered. I hounded Progenity to get a figure and they were guarded about it. They ended up telling me that they will never bill you "true cost" if insurance doesn't cover it and you can always seek financial assistance that will lower it to $100
@mariek312 that helps. I just got off the phone with Progenity and all they could tell me was that the average out of pocket was $185 for each test. I also can't get my doctors office to tell me if they marked me as having risk factors, as my insurance said the same. Don't these people know pregnant women are hormonal and cranky???
Anyone ever heard of Counsyl? I guess thats what my Drs office does and I can go in next week once I am 10 weeks and take it. I had never heard of this one before.
@ninji15 My RE used Counsyl for genetic screening for my husband and I and my OB used counsyl for me for my NIPT. I got results back in 4 business days.
@NiniJ55 I also used Counsyl and had results within 6 days of the blood draw. You can make an account and check the status of your sample on their website.
I thought Counsyl was for checking your and your partner's carrier status of diseases - not the baby. But maybe there are multiple tests? Last time we did Counsyl for parental carrier screening and Harmony for the baby itself.
This time we didn't need to do Counsyl as that doesn't change over time and we did Maternity21 yesterday (I'll hear back in about a week!)

I am not 100% but there maybe different tests by the same company? The link here makes it sound like its about baby and not parents but I am unsure. I will have to ask! https://www.counsyl.com/patient/prelude-prenatal-screen/
We did Counsyl. They do have two tests, one for carrier screening and a prenatal one. We opted out of the carrier and just chose to do the prenatal. We are patiently waiting for our results. I only check the website like 20 times a day even though I know it's too soon

Just made my appt for two weeks to do our NT scan and the NIPT blood work. Not sure what test my hospital uses, but I have an appt with the genetic counselors before they’ll order it so I’m sure they’ll tell me then.
So I decided to do the genetics testing and I must have read the pamphlet wrong. I thought it was an ultrasound and then labs down the line if needed but it was an ultrasound and labs immediately after. I have nooooo clue how much this is going to cost. It took 8 business days but I got the results back. I think everything is ok, but alot of the test the value is "pending" but they were marked as normal. Don't know how that works but ok!
@nayyohme the NIPT is always a blood draw, they don't even need to do an ultrasound. If you just did the NT it would be an ultrasound and a finger prick. The NIPT is a lot more detailed testing where they look at the chromosomes in your blood. NT they just do some measurements on the Ultrasound.
How do you get your results? Online, over the phone, in person? I want to find out at the same time as DH but that's not as easy if I find out over the phone or online (because I'll be refreshing all the time).
@tropical1982 I had an envelope with two sheets of paper folded in it (so I couldn't see through it) ready to go if I got the call. I already spoke with my coworker about it and would hand him the phone to write down the results and stuff the envelope so that my husband and I could open it at the same time. Fortunately, I had an OB appointment the day after they got the results, so my doctor wrote it down in the envelope for me.
It was totally worth it to do it this way! My husband was super thankful and said, "I'll remember this moment forever." He's not a sappy guy, so I know that was really special for him.
I got the genetics test done at the fetal medicine dr. The nurse called me and told me the results of my trisonomy tests over the phone and told me she knew the gender. I could either have her tell me, call back later when we could both hear, or go in and get the results in an envelope.
I had a dr appt the day after the results with my OB. They had the results as well. I had them put it in an envelope to give me at my appt. DH and I opened them together last night.
@tropical1982 For my blood work it got posted to my patient portal. I was a little surprised I didn't at least get a call saying everything was good, and I had to decipher everything. Not even a note from my OB anywhere.
@sammierose464 I'm going to do it at some point. My Dr told me I should do it regardless of the cost but I just haven't checked yet. I don't think they gave me enough info on it or anything really. Ugh.
How the heck did I just lose my post three freaking times in a row. So annoyed. @sammierose464 we just were talking about that and may just do that since there's no way to know if we're carriers. Part of me is on the fence, though, bc I'm not sure how much advanced prep I could do with that information, though, anyway.
So we just met with the nurse, who gave us two options (without names of tests, which really didn't help.) One was Down Syndrome screening (u/s + bloodwork) that could also be done w/in the Counsyl testing if we go that route (which we are), and then the cystic fibrosis scan. I asked about NIPT and she told me I may get some pushback from the counselor (I gather they're getting annoyed at all of the >35 people just wanting to know the baby's sex...but I see that as their problem and not mine....)
@kiwi2628 I saw your post that you did both exams (presuming I read correctly.) Was there any overlap in results between the two tests, or do they both cover enough separate markers that it was worth it to do both? @kfrob If you don't mind sharing, can I ask why you opted out of the Counsyl carrier screening?
Ok I called just because either way I still want to be prepared for the cost... They said $750 without insurance. Insurance will negotiate a different rate so it should be cheaper. Now I'll actually look into WHY I should get this test since my OB didn't tell me.
Re: Genetic Testing
BOY!
We just did the genetic testing late last week ( ultrasound combined with blood work ) and are awaiting the results .
Does anyone know how long it takes for these results ? Should I book an appointment with my doctor or should I wait for them to call ?
Anxiously awaiting these results and hoping for a healthy baby .

They will call you when they have results
Thanks! I will give them a call!
