I downloaded the babylist app, added a few things from their store, and then a few from outside websites. I have received a couple emails from them like "welcome to babylist" "do you have any questions', but nothing about a welcome kit? Do I
@neeraja_k be careful with diaper creams and stuff because some can't be used with cloth, it will make them unabsorbant (I know that's not a word but we're going with it). You could always stock up on Newborn and size 1 diapers, a lot of cloth won't fit that teeny tiny stage unless you chose to get newborns which many people skip and just wait it out until they grow into the ones that will last a lot longer.

Petroleum based products can cause buildup and reduce absorbency over time. If you're able to use petroleum based products frequently without experiencing absorbency issues it's likely that your wash routine has no issues at all/boy vs girl and where on their booty you're using it/and style of diaper. But in a pinch you're likely fine or can use a liner, but it usually voids the warranty on the diaper. There are plenty of creams that are considered safe and made of things like Shea, coconut, grapeseed, water soluble products.
I don’t know how I missed this thread and sorry to resurrect it if everyone’s over it, but here is my two cents.
Call your insurance!! They will likely send you a breast pump, pads, and storage bags. Ask what perks come with your insurance and there also may be a nurses line you can call with questions.
Like others have said, don’t register for clothes. By the time people get around to buying something, the clothes you picked will likely be gone since the changeover is pretty fast at stores.
Things I loved: washable changing pad liners pnp (ds slept in it in our room and we’ve used it for travel) Halo sleep sacks bibs, including toddler sized bibs hankerchief bibs for the drooling/teething stage baby gates cloth diaper inserts for burp cloths LaZBoy chair for the nursery. Sound machine video monitor backpack diaper bag a lined bag for wet/dirty clothes if you have a clothing emergency while out and about. Baby bucket car seat convertible crib
Things i I didn’t love or didn’t use: wipe warmer bottle warmer (I most BF, but he had bottles on occasion) mamaroo (my mom bought this without really consulting me and it was a waste. Our cat liked it, lol) bottle drying rack Boppy pillow swaddles (ds hated to be swaddled. We called him Houdini, so that may be a wait to purchase item)
Another thing I HATED that most love is the pack n play. Never used one for either kid.
So funny. I hated the idea of it and didn't register for one, and then ended up buying one and used it all.the.time! That thing sat in my living room from 5 months old until he was close to 2.5 and starting to climb out of it. After that I used it as a bed when we traveled. It was well loved when I finally sold it at a garage sale this summer. I will definitely be getting another one.
His three plus my one; we are all excited to welcome a little one!
Anyone use or plan to use the babybum diaper cream brush? I was planning to use it but my sister, who has a two year old, said it wasn’t hygenic. Most of the reviews I’ve seen say wipe it with a wipe a deep clean occasionally. Any thoughts or concerns about the product or not giving a full wash per use?
You don't need one. You can use the back of a spoon or a wide popsicle stick. Unless your kid has yeast or some kind of infection wiping it with a baby wipe is fine. You don't sterilize your kids butt everytime you wipe it so why sterilize a cream applicator?
My thoughts just in case anyone who we actually know wants to know.
Y’all, just get the baby bum brush. It’s like $2? And easier to wipe off than your fingers, especially if you get cream under your nails
ETA the reason it’s better than a popsicle stick is it suctions to the surface of the changing table so it will stay upright when you need to put it down.
+1 for baby bum brush. I hate butt cream under my nails. I keep them super short and still gets stuck under there. I wipe it off with a towel or wipe and haven't had any issues. DH just uses his finger and isn't a believer but I love it!
I don’t use the creamy ones so many that’s why it isn’t an issue for me...
a good segue for abother fav product of mine: angel baby bottom balm. I had a rash prone sensitive kid where al the regular stuff either did nothing (butt paste) or made it worse (desitin). It’s a tiny jar bc it’s a balm so you put a bit on the pad of your finger and rub on the irritated area, after powder (controversial but key for me in preventing and healing rashes) and then aquaphir on top. None bothered me with my fingers but I can see the creamy ones sucking.
What brand of disposable diapers do you guys like? My SIL registered for two boxes so I feel like I should too.
Early days we liked Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive. Then we cloth diapered until 6 months, and then switched to Pampers Baby Dry, which we’re still using a year later and love them.
What brand of disposable diapers do you guys like? My SIL registered for two boxes so I feel like I should too.
Pampers swaddlers are our go to but I have used other Pampers, Luvs and Walmart/Target own brands on occasion when I couldn't get my regular ones. They were ok too! I guess I just stuck with what they used at the hospital because they worked well!
Diapers may be trial and error! I used pampers sensitive for newborns then I stuck to them for my rashy kid as others made it worse, but switched to huggies for the other two, I also like the huggies brand overnights - used to do pampers overnights but had some bad issues (not full diapers would just fall apart which is a disgusting mess)
I tried and hated target. Didn’t like how luvs smelled lol
Team Huggies snugglers! They are so soft and had a poop flap to keep the poop from shooting up their back. I really liked their overnights. Right now we're traveling so we're in disposables. I grabbed Target brand. Hate them. Should have gotten Huggies.
We use huggies until out of size 1. That little line is awesome for letting me to change or not during a night feeding. Once into size 2s we switch to luvs. They are really good, and fit my long/skinny legged kids.

We personally used Dr Browns because of colic. But if you're going to use a Medela pump can you wait to see if the baby will accept Medela bottles? If it does, I'd just get all Medela. I can't remember exactly but I thought the Avent bottles had a air valve thing in the bottom, which to me is a pita to clean. The simpler the better if baby accepts it. The Dr Brown bottles were such a pita to clean.
I found with my Medela PISA that the cheap Parents Choice bottles from Walmart fit the pump. The kids didn’t care what bottle they had, as long as it was full.

It depends on the kid, so I wouldn’t buy a ton in each one. It’s nice to have extra pumping and storage bottles, but like @princesslockness said, the cheap ones from Walmart fit it, too. We used Avent and Munchkin latch, and both work for us, with DS having a slight preference for the Munchkin. It’s know to have one of the slowest flow level 1 nipples, so it helps for switching back and forth when breastfeeding.
Why all the target diaper hate? Lol. I like them and they’ve worked great for us. Also, I’m cheap. I think we used Huggies for newborn diapers but I honestly can’t remember.
We used Dr. Browns bottles and I agree that they were a pain to clean. Ds wasn’t too picky with bottles but also didn’t use one much.

I have a medela pump and an absolute shit load of medela bottles for collection purposes, but I feed out of the avent bottles. You can't pump from the medela into a wide mouth bottle without a special adaptor, but I preferred feeding from the wide mouth bottle because the latch more closely approximated the breast.
Don't register for too many of one kind of feeding bottle because your kid nay reject certain brands. But collection bottles, get like a million of those.
Ditto what everyone said about bottles - don't buy too many of one kind until you know what works. I registered for Avent bottles and DS ended up hating them. We used Dr. B because of reflux and they worked great. Medela bottles were awesome to pump into, but I never fed from them.
I'm a fan of the Target diapers. We never had an issue with them and have been using them from day 1, aside from some other brands we received as gifts or here and there at the beginning. I also am a sucker for a deal and with my RedCard, Cartwheel offers every so often, the specials they have with gift cards for purchases and the price difference, I had a hard time switching to anything else!
Ditto suggestions above - finding out what baby prefers can be trial and error. We has 3 or 4 different bottles that we got from registry bags and that we brought home from the hospital. DS preferred the Dr. Browns and yup, total PITA to clean. I would pump into whatever little bottles came with my pump (medela for medela, spectra for spectra) then throw those in the fridge to cool. Once they were fridge temp I would combine into a Dr. Browns bottle for feeding or combine into the milk storage bags for freezing.
Oh and I'm a huge fan of Honest diapers and their bundle / delivery service.
The swag bags at target, buybuybaby etc. Can be a great way to get bottle for free to sample.
This is more of a feeding tip but make sure you keep up with that your pediatrician recommends for introducing the bottle so your kid won't reject it when you go back to work (mine said twice a week, SIL's said once a day so advice varies). DS did fine with a bottle for several weeks, then we didn't bottle feed him for about a month and he refused to eat from them.
Not every baby is that stubborn but man I wish we had kept up with it because knowing he wasn't eating while I was at work was horrible.
I went and got my Target registry bag yesterday - it was pretty good! 2 pacis, a Dr. Browns bottle, a few diapers and some breast milk storage bags and pads. They didn't ask for my name or anything so would it be absolutely awful of me to go to the other one by us and get a 2nd bag?

Lol, that is my plan. Do I have to make a registry first?
@ladygali - LOL! I'm not the only one! Yay! The guy at customer service didn't ask me for anything, I just walked up and said I started a registry and he handed me a bag and said congratulations
Just chiming in with @lalala2004 on the different flow nipples. If BFing and bottle feeding slowest flow nipples are great. Baby doesn't get frustrated with the bottle to nipple transition because either way the milk comes out in a skinny little stream. It does take longer especially for a NB to drink the bottle down which can be tiring in the middle of the night. I had a slow flow/letdown so I never switched to the faster flow nipples in fear baby would get frustrated at the boob once used to a faster flow bottle nipple.
Baby is now weaned and still taking a couple bottles a day at 16 months with the #1 slow flow nipple.
I like the Tommy tippey bottles, very easy to clean and the wide mouth bottles are supposed to mimic the breast.
I use both Pampers and Huggies, depending on which coupons I have they both are great. I've also used honest, luvs, babyganics, Walmart parents choice, Kmart brand and never had a problem with them besides them being not as soft.
Contemplating cloth diapers for this babe but would want to buy them used in good condition before committing 100%
In the beginning DS wasn't as picky about bottles, but later on he would only take the Lansinoh Momma bottles. ETA: I kept that kid on the slow flow nipples until I was done nursing at 11m. He had no problem emptying that bottle like a champ.
As for diapers, I feel like at different ages/sizes I liked different brands best. Sometimes Honest, sometimes pampers, sometimes Huggies. And stocking up on diapers is some kind of magical science I do not understand. I have diapers in every size for this kid.
