Re: February MOTN Thread

  • Oh look, I get to start. Two weird dreams and a bathroom trip later and here I am wide awake hours before I’d like to be. Getting up to go to the bathroom is a game of chance with me anyway. There’s always a very real chance that once I’ve gotten up, I’m going to be up.  :/

  • I woke up and definitely thought my alarm was about to go off, but it’s 1:30! And then I threw up and am still feeling bleh, so this is pupsicle reporting live from the bathroom floor
  • @pupsicle23 Hope you're feeling better!
  • @pupsicle23 oh no! How are you feeling now? Any better?

  • I thought about commenting here last night as I woke up at 1:15 am ridiculously hot and uncomfortable.  At 1:30 DS1 needed to go to the bathroom.  At 2 am DS2 needed to go to the bathroom (and tell me all about his dream).  At 2:30 am my back was hurting so I propped up my pillows and turned on my audio book with earphones.  At 5:15 am I finished the book and contemplated getting up and making coffee.  I ended up falling back asleep until it was time to get up at 6:30.

    Insomnia sucks.

  • @kfren @austenista Thanks! By 5 I couldn’t keep down water, so I called the doctor and they said to go to the er if it wasn’t better in a couple of hours. I called off work again, thank god for my principal, and managed to sleep for a couple of hours. I’ve since had three sips of Gatorade, so things are looking up!
@mytinc that stinks, I hope your day goes okay
  • @pupsicle23 - Are you still fighting morning sickness, or is this a stomach bug?  I'm glad you're feeling a little better.

  • @pupsicle23 FX that it's just something you ate. I've always hated not knowing if it's pregnancy-related or legit illness. Hopefully it passes soon, whatever it is.
  • DH and DD have had the flu since last Wednesday. While I have managed to avoid getting it myself, I haven't slept more than 90 min a night since. I just want an xl coffee and to not have to clean up bodily fluids anymore  :'(
  • @momac1919 Here's to a speedy recovery for your family. Hope you stay well and get to rest soon!
  • Last 2 nights up for 90 minutes from midnight til 1:30 am. Pregsomnia is no joke.
AND then DD up with me last night.

6:00 am wake up call from her these last 2 mornings. And because DH works until midnight 90 minutes away, I am the wonderful wife who even though she has not slept due to leg nerve tweakiness... gets up with DD.

CAN I NAP AT MY DESK?

  • @rnielsen321 I feel your pain. I have to get up every 30 minutes or so from my desk, to fight the sleepiness.
DS has 4 teeth coming in and has been waking me at 5 am (45 minutes before my alarm goes off) every day for the last week. This is in addition to him suddenly starting to wake at around 3 and me bringing him into bed with me (after which he proceeds to smack me in the face, chest, and head for a ridiculous amount of time, until he finally falls asleep.) Ah, the joys of pregnancy and toddlerdom.

  • I actually felt like I slept decent last night for the first time in ages.  So DS1 came wondering into our room at 5:45 am (before our alarms) because he was awake and wanted a shower.  Kid, I'm glad you want to be clean, but can it wait 30 minutes?

  • For the record, DH and I are NOT morning people. Never have been... We are night owls through and through.
My hobby of improv comedy, and his years of working in sports journalism and on a rotating shifts have settled us in our combined love of sleep through the early 4-7 am window...  Then we decided to have kids.

5:00 am is not a time of day I see by choice. So even 6:00 am is like horrendous.... combined with DH rolling home after 1:00 am 3 nights a week,  those precious few minutes between 6 and 7 am are GOLD....

The leg nerve thing keeping me up is what is really doing me in.  Comfortable, and at the right temp is really all I need to nod off, I am so tired.

  • @rnielsen321 +1 on the late owl. I've been on a 2-10pm shift for over 3 years now. I typically sleep from 130a to maybe 830 or 9. I really like the shift and enjoy not rushing in the mornings, making dinner, etc. I know my world is about to get ROCKED. My biggest issue is falling back asleep once I'm up; I'm terrible at that. I'll be ready to go for the midnight feeding, 2 or 3am I'll be ok to fall back asleep, but once we start creeping in on the 6/7am.. ugh. I work one day a month at 9am so I get up at 7am and I feel like a zombie all day. Let the fun begin!  :D
  • Hi. I'm here woke up with awful heartburn so here I am waiting for Zantac to work.  I'm so tired.  I already toss and turn all night or am up like 4 times a night to pee.
We are so excited to grow our family!

  • +1 to the heartburn.

DH is snoring very loudly in my ear. We DTD tonight and whenever I lay on either side, I’ve been having Braxton Hicks. I don’t remember having them at all with DD but I’m fairly certain this is what’s going on. Off to try the couch for some semi-restful sleep!

  • @mytinc ditto.... Tossing and turning since 3:30 as well. I guess it's better than yesterday's 2:20-5am toss and turn but only if I get back to sleep soon!
  • @stephcat421, I gave up and made coffee at 5:30, an hour before my alarm.

  • It’s like if I wake up anytime after 4:30 lately, my body thinks I’m ready to go for the day :s. Granted when I start a shift at 6:00 I do get up at 4:30, but that’s only once a week, so what gives with all the other days? I just want to sleep!

  • I'm back to waking up between 1-3 every morning. I only fall back asleep around 5 (alarm goes off at 5:30).  I'd give anything to sleep straight through the night.
  • @mytinc made an exception for fully caffeinated coffee today. Naturally I fell asleep again around 5:30 and it was so hard getting up at 7:00! I may have to catch a nap on my lunch hour!
  • @stephcat421 I do have a fully caffeinated cup of coffee every morning.  I don't think I could do without it.  I somehow only did decaf with DS1.  I gave in to one cup a day of caffeinated with DS2 and now this baby.  Some things you can't live without.  ;)

  • @mytinc I had to back away from coffee for awhile because I couldn't contain myself to just 1 cup! The break helped me as now it's easier sticking to just 1. Hope you're not the walking dead today and get some good rest tonight!

@marcus7676 sounds like you're on my schedule too!

My OB told me today that this is a method for your body preparing for night time feedings. I guess I figured that but man was hoping this was my time for stocking up on sleep!
  • I know it's not technically middle of the night yet, but I can't sleep. Came downstairs to take something for anxiety to see if that helps. Listening to DH snore definitely isn't doing the trick.

  • @Austenista I hope your anxiety calms for the night. Is there an audible book you have been wanting to "read"? Maybe headphones in + a distraction would help?
  • I'm also up. I have such weird dreams that even trying to explain the general synopsis doesn't even make sense to me, but I wake up with my heart pounding and here I am an hour later. Usually it's between 1-3, but just about every night I'm up multiple times to pee, to readjust in bed, or to burrow under more blankets or kick them off.
  • @bearmoons ugh! I’m sorry! Solidarity.

AFM awake again after an anxiety nightmare. Wish I could just shut my brain off tonight. It’s worried about a bunch of crap that can’t be solved by a sleepless night. And the baby feels like it’s breech rn and just repeatedly kicking me in the bladder all night long.

Being a 2nd shifter, this is definitely the middle of the night for me. I just woke up with the worst Charlie horse I've ever had in my life. I couldn't get it to relax and the minute I did, it cramped up again. After 5 min, I thought I was dying, eyes are watering, I'm wondering how long I let it go before my muscle just falls off the bone because my leg feels like it's ripping apart and if this doesn't stop, I'm gonna have to go to the ER, although I have zero clue what they could even do for me but I can't even think clearly because of the pain. Finally I'm wondering if I should just crawl to the bathroom bc I'm reaching the point of gonna pee my pants so I give one last effort to stand up and finally the weight shifted forward on my tippy toes relaxes it.....until I make it to toilet and cramp back up. So I walk around my room for 5 min on my tippy toes. I'm good now but sore AF. I've been having really bad tightness in my neck the past couple days leading to tension headaches and now I can't help but wonder if all this tightness is related. I'm not dehydrated, I eat a couple bananas a week....maybe I should Read up on magnesium or something.  Argh.

ETA: my googling has found that some people swear by a swig of pickle juice in the middle of a cramp to get it to relax--won't solve the root of the problem, but I am not above trying this the next time.
  • @mytinc Same. With DD, I gave up all caffeine as soon as I found out I was pregnant. I didn't drink it again until she was 1 year old. With DS1, I had a cup of coffee here and there, with the occasional soda. This time around, there is no possible way I can get through the day without having full throttle coffee. Kids will break you.

@bearmoons I'm with you on the freaky dreams. Mine are mostly lucid and I just can't wake up. One of them almost made me cry. Hopefully our minds will shut down enough to get a decent night's sleep soon!

@Austenista DH's snoring is why I really sleep in another room. I told him it was more convenient when I was nursing DD but, two years later, we still sleep apart. Not gonna lie, it wouldn't really matter now because my sleep is so choppy, but maybe it could help you. Is there another room you can sleep in? I know with DH, earplugs were zero help.

@amys614 Oh no! Charley horses are no joke :(  Perhaps a visit to a masseuse is in order?

  • @amys614 my husband is a type 1 diabetic, and he is very active. he is also a super sweater. he plays semi-pro box lacrosse as a goalie, so he loses a ton of fluid. for years he was having issues with cramping, related to dehydration and electrolyte imbalance while playing, to the point of his entire body cramping. He now drinks pickle juice before games and longer practices and it has substantially decreased his cramping. I think it's the salt content that maybe helps him retain some fluid and prophylactically replace the salt he loses sweating? You could try it, but also maybe some stretching, a stick or foam roller daily, and probably some magnesium will help as well. hope it's not a recurring thing for you.

@kfren and @Austenista the dreams are crazy.  I have terrible anxiety and my brain just won't stop, and I think it carries into my dreams and so despite the fact that the dreams make no sense and are so weird, they induce intense anxiety. pregnancy is so weird, haha.
  • @amys614 ouch! Dear lord. I’ve heard the pickle juice thing too and if that happened anything would be worth a try. I’d also reach for a banana or two today. Here’s hoping that doesn’t happen again.

@kfren my husband doesn’t snore excessively (my father did and I used to hear him from across the house, ridiculous) and I use earplugs and it helps. I was mostly just salty he was sleeping and I wasn’t.

@bearmoons that’s also exactly what happened last night. I was anxiety-ridden, worried about something and then had a nonsensical anxiety dream pertaining to it. Then I couldn’t go back to sleep. Last night for me was just one of those nights where when it’s finally morning, you’re relieved to just get up and it be over.

  • Last night, I was able to sleep through the night (aside from many bathroom trips). Tonight, I’ve been up since 3. I hate insomnia.
  • It's not really MOTN but I apparently cannot sleep past 7am. I got up to pee and tried so hard to fall back asleep. Even my cats were being good. Now they and my husband are all asleep next to me and I'm here.

@elsie42 @LaceyBee522 same boat here. Actually wasn't woken up by blasting techno music, but still got up at 7 anyways and can't go back to sleep. I realize it's 10am for most people on this board, but it's still early in California.

Also @LaceyBee522 woman after my own heart! I bake when I can't sleep too, but we packed the kitchen yesterday so I'll just give the dogs a nice long walk.

ETA aaaand there's the music. Poor DH was up until 1:30, hopefully it won't wake him up right away.
