I finally told my mom I'm pregnant. She's not on board at all and even though I knew she wouldn't be, I'm taking it way harder than I thought I would.
My mom is not either. For her own crazy reasons. I know it’s hard because it is our moms and we love them but try not to let it get to you. Just use it as an example of how to do things differently for your own babies. Hugs.
I think this is where I struggle, I've always said I wanted to be just like my mom cuz we have such a good relationship. It's making me sad to see her react to some of my life decisions the way she is. I've never judged her for her decisions and I feel like she shouldn't be either. Sure she can be disappointed but couldn't she just keep that to herself? Does she really think I'm not beating myself up over some of this too? Ugh. Life is hard.
She wants what is best for her baby girl. She is seeing your life from a different perspective. When she calms down, sit down and talk with her. I’m sure she’ll come around. She’s your mom. She loves you.

@dirtanddiamonds stop with all of your logicy logic. That made me cry in a good way. You're right, she wants a better life for me than she thinks I have and historically I haven't made the best decisions. I don't really think there's any "decision" to be made here but she sees it differently. I hope she comes around soon, of all of the people in the world, her opinion is pretty high up there for me.

@calimom2524 I'm going to echo PP and say I'm sorry your mom's having a hard time with your announcement. I hope she comes around soon.

@Firemanswife11 Girl. That's insane. Does she just not think about others? I have a few siblings like that.

My MBF is pretty lame - and it's similar to a lot of peoples. Being sick is the worst. Not nauseous - like normal sick. Two days before my BFP, I had strep. Now I feel sick again a few months later. I usually only get sick once a season so twice is weird. I couldnt' sleep well last night so I feel like poop. Ugh - the winter blows.

Me again with another Murder Monday.

Well this one isn't so much of a "bitch" as I was terrified. So we recently relocated our office from a nice cushy close to San Francisco town to a...less than desirable neighborhood. The property is hella rundown and we're really only operating out of one of the four buildings for the time being. The front building has access to the street but the only time we use that building is for the bathroom. So I was in that building using the bathroom today when I heard someone banging on the door and yelling. I was instantly hyper aware that I was extremely alone in that building (everyone else is in the back of property). It was a homeless woman who was asking for my permission to dumpster dive. I was terrified,  I immediately realized how unstable she was (I hate to stereotype but she did not appear to be sober) and she could have any kind of weapon and I had zero way of defending myself nor anyone near me to come to my aid if I needed help.

Cue me turning into psycho boss and now every single building is on strict lockdown.

TL; DR I freaked out for my safety today.

@hfooter I feel the same as you! I almost want to throw up because I think it might make me feel better. I also feel like I’ve been neglecting my DS, she watches so much tv every time we are together. Let’s all pray the second trimester is better

@derbysquirrel yep! Can’t tell you how many times I’ve ran to the toilet thinking I’m going to puke and just dry heave. I know some have it worse but it just sucks overall to feel this way and to keep little humans alive and happ at the same time.

@hoodwink89 it better! If this last through second try I don’t know if I’ll make it.

@firemanswife11 I’m sorry :/ that really sucks. That’s one of the worst because to do anything about it requires active and willing therapy which doesn’t happen. My cousin has boredline personality disorder and it’s been hard to watch how it’s affected her and her sisters and their mom.

My BF ... I went to get my second set of betas today, had to wait two hours because there was problems with the requisition and they couldn’t get a hold of my ob.. even though it was literally a photocopy of the form I used on Friday to get blood work ( insert eye roll) and to make it all worse I called my clinic after and the results are in but my doctor never called me back so now I have to wait until tomorrow and I will have to take a sick day from work just in case it’s bad news. And the waiting hell continues ....

My bestie is here for the weekend, and I love her to bits, but everything she does is loud and it grates on my last nerve when I'm trying to enjoy the morning peace and quiet with my cup of tea. I didn't realize a bowl of grits could be slurped, or that simply burping has to sound like a cat vomiting, all wet-like.  :s
I literally LOL at this. No fing way I would die. Especially right now during this pregnancy because I am so irritable.

@derbysquirrel  Its when they have nasty acidic poop/liquid poop that causes a rash or burn immediately when its expelled. I mean, I heard the nasty sound then within 10 seconds he was crying.  Coconut oil, butt paste, baking soda and baths weren't doing enough so he would relax and go to sleep. Corn starch fixed it. Apply liberally, everywhere in diaper, and cross your fingers it passes fast.

Four people went home in my husband's small office in the plant for the flu today. One of them, his wife was in the hospital for a couple of days last week due to complications from it.

Hubby texted me during his lunch hour and said that he "feels funny" today. Usually his sickness hunches are right. I already told him that if he comes down with it, he's being quarantined in the master bedroom and I'll shove trays of food through the door.

I really wish we valued good health and each other's health in this country, and that sick people could stay home. But the quest for dollars will be our undoing in a real pandemic.

At least I was the "silly one" who got the flu shot this year. But I have zero knowledge of Tamiflu and really don't want to take something. So, I guess I'll load up on my vitamins, lysine, order some elderberry syrup, and make some protective talismans.

Even though it's Tuesday I have my BF. DH's dental health is garbage (genetic issues, yay) and he needs periodontal surgery this year that's going to cost us $10,500. I don't have that kind of cash on hand, so that means some kind of loan for at least $3500 that I can't cover OOP. We've been debt free since our marriage (minus our mortgages) and I hate the thought that we'll have to take on more debt. All this with a baby on the way makes for lousy timing. Tapping out my emergency fund makes me very nervous, but I can't let my husband lose his teeth. Of course, dental insurance won't cover any of it.

@neeraja_k when I picked up the girls at school yesterday, there was a sign on DD1's door to say that the room had been exposed to influenza.  Wonderful.  we all had the flu shot this year, but it's not been super effective.  When I was pregnant with DD2 I got what I have been calling the Death Virus; I had a fever of 103 and couldn't keep anything down, so the OB told me to go to urgent care and take ibuprofen.  Apparently my urgent care is garbage and they were like "well we're just going to assume it's flu without testing you for it, here is some Tamiflu, which might make you nauseous."  I decided to wait until the next morning to take it to see if my fever went away on its own.  it didn't, but I was able to eat a bit.  I decided to start the Tamiflu because of the lingering fever, and OMG.  I could not keep down even the smallest sip of water, or Pedialyte.  I called the OB again and wound up admitted to L&D for 48 hours so that they could give me ibuprofen suppositories (I kept barfing up the pills) and vitamins and fluids and monitor the baby.  it was terrible.  And it turns out I didn't even have the flu!

So the moral of this story is: if you think you have the flu, get tested for it before accepting Tamiflu, that medication is the devil.  And if you feel truly terrible, call your OB.  After about 24 hours at the hospital I felt so much better.  I wish I had just gone there sooner and skipped urgent care all together.

@derbysquirrel I feel for you! Debt is so stressful, especially when adding a new baby. SO has really bad teeth also, and had to have major dental surgery a few years ago. He argued with insurance for so long but they didn't cover any of it. Eventually he said to them, "So, my dentist tells me if I don't have the surgery, I'll lose my teeth. And, then you'll totally cover dentures and replacement? But you won't cover the surgery to prevent this?!" They said, "Yup." Insurance sucks. Now he has to go every 3 months but is still only covered twice a year, so we pay a lot OOP for his cleanings and extra xrays. Last year he had 4 cavities and a root canal. And, he's an avid flosser/brusher. He's much better than I am and my dentist tells me that mine look perfect. It's not fair. I'm crazy already about making my 2yo brush daily.

My sympathies. My mom struggled with periodontal disease for 20+ years, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. She had countless surgeries, countless procedures, and in the end, despite the tens of thousands she spent it was all for naught. The best decision she made, imho, was getting them all pulled and full dentures, which are now poorly fitting due to the extensive bone loss from waiting so long. Despite her dentist and surgeon's warnings she continued to smoke 2-3 packs a day even after her diagnosis, so I'm sure the outcome might have been better had she quit...since cigarette smoke reduces bloodflow and slows healing.

Early detection, lifestyle changes, and a dentist who is on board with proper care, make all the difference imho. Despite perfect teeth and never having had a cavity or filling, my husband has shown the beginning stages of it, like small abscesses just under the gums. So far between brushing 3x a day, religious flossing, every 4 month cleanings, and daily hydrogen peroxide rinses have made a noticeable improvement in his oral health.

    I wish you guys luck!

@westphilly Just like H and I. He has dang close to perfect teeth, after his braces. Like brushes maybe once a week, didn't go to a single app in 3-5 years, and has no cavities. I brush, floss, and mouth wash at least 2x a day. Yet, I have 16 cavities that are just getting big enough to fill from my inhaler in high school. Its ridiculous.

Have you looked into Willamette Dental, if they have it in your area? We get it through work, but any visit is a $15 co-pay. Like I had an emergency root canal in November, and it was the $15 to walk in the door and that was it.

I took a dose of tamiflu today and don’t feel any more nauseous than I normally do. I don’t want to be taking it though. But DS has confirmed flu, is 2.5, and slept with me and drooled all over me last night. My ob was also pretty adamant that I needed to take it

eta: @neeraja_k hopefully if your DH is sick, he knows better than to drool all over you! But seriously, I hope you both stay healthy

We have an HSA, and that will help, but not cover anything. I have most of the balance on hand, it just wipes out all of my savings and just leaves the emergency fund. My mom has offered to cover the remaining balance with an interest free loan, so that is a life saver. If I'm going to take on debt, at least it's interest free, and leaves my emergency fund for baby related things. I'm lucky to have an awesome family!

@delujm0 that was my experience with tamiflu. I stopped taking it the last few days because I was sick of not being able to eat, drink or even move. I had MS (I was 8 weeks with DD) and it was nothing compared to how I felt with the tamiflu. Freaking awful.
