@lindsayleigh1989 good to know! The struggle is real. I try and put 20 hours in per week, but it usually ends up being about 15. They don't really care though as long as I meet all of my deadlines. My husband hates that I took the job, but I was miserable watching bills pile up and not contributing where I can. I may be 10x more tired than I was before, but I feel so much more alive and fulfilled, if that makes sense
Just catching up on here. Sending support to sleep deprived mamas, I went to bed too late and was up at 6:30am - anxious. About everything. Work (I feel like pregnancy brain is making a bad employee), the baby, the birth, money, ahhhh. I don't often get like this but when I do I'm basically anxious about everything. Sucks!
@LadyJ2949 I hope tomorrow is not a snow day so you don't go crazy with the kiddos.
I don't know where we were discussing doulas, but wanted to update those interested. We looked up two recommended teams and they are both around $1400. One team has a package for $1600 which includes an 8-hour birth course, one prenatal visit, one postnatal visit, unlimited support at labor and delivery (meaning it doesn't matter how long you're in labor) and one lactation consulting visit. It is more than I wanted to spend but I feel like she offers quite a bit in return. We will interview both of these teams to start with, one of the ladies is also a prenatal yoga teacher for the same program I'm training for.
@lindsayleigh1989 sorry about your ongoing headaches! I have had migraines and tension headaches for years. Migraines so bad to the point I’ve had to go to urgent care for an IV with nausea/pain meds. Unfortunately my doctor told me, I cannot take any of my pain meds while pregnant but luckily they only happen once in a blue moon and I had one right before I got pregnant. So fingers crossed it doesn’t happen while pregnant. But I feel your pain! It’s the worst.
As for the tension headaches, a massage will definitely help! I also do some stretches for my neck which seem to help. Even using a tennis ball against a wall to roll around your neck and shoulders. I have tried acupuncture as well and that has helped some. Hopefully your massage will ease the pain!
Not sure if this warrants a separate post or not, but for any Team Green mommas, be careful if you are able to review U/S, lab results, etc... online. I logged on to my patient portal for the first time last night and saw a link to view all of my lab results and such. Before I clicked, I questioned whether or not the sex would be reported here, since I had to have the NIPT done and this is automatically included. I called today and sure enough, they told me do NOT look at the lab results, U/S, etc... as it is a permanent part of my file now. I almost inadvertently found out!!!! This would have been the most anticlimactic way to find out the sex!!! So I made a good, trustworthy friend at work change my password and not tell me so my stellar willpower is not tested.
For a good 10 minutes I just stared at the computer, knowing it was ONE CLICK away. So if you don't want to know, stay off your patient portal online!
Would anyone be interested in a self-care thread? sharing diy spa recipes, meditations, relaxation ideas? pregnancy is stressful and I think we have a great hive mind here
Posting just to vent! I feel like I'm going to burst at work. I am the go getter of the group and constantly bending over backwards for everyone elses benefit and it is never enough. never never never. not to mention I've been horribly sick with this pregnancy, have a UTI, and a sinus infection. gahhhhhh! Haven't missed a day of work and still work circles around everyone else without an ounce of appreciation.

Wow, tell us how you really feel.
LOL just kidding. I'm so sorry you're so sick!!!! That's friggin' terrible, all at once. I hate when I work with people that don't pull their weight; luckily it doesn't happen often for me and I'm kind of in my own little world over here. I'm sorry that it seems like people are taking advantage of you!! I just hope you feel better soon. A UTI and a Sinus Infection sounds like a really shitty combo.

This happened to a friend of mine! She was looking at stuff in her online patient portal and the sex was listed there. She was so sad to have found out that way! Great post, I think it could warrant it's own thread as a PSA?

@Claireymary Yikes! I'm so sorry you're going through this all at once. I hope you feel better soon. @lindsayleigh1989 I think this is the perfect example of why your suggested self-care thread is needed.

I really hope it's the baby I am feeling and not gas....i miss the kicks
I swear I have been feeling the baby for about a week now. It's not all the time, but I can feel when she's doing rolls of any kind. I think the girl was an acrobat in a past life.....

@Claireymary for sure take a day off (if you can without adding to the stress!) That's so much to deal with.
Just got back from DS's 2.5 year appt and he is behind on fine motor skills. So, trying to figure out how I am going to work on that. Anyone have any fave toddler activities that boost fine motor? I've been looking at a website Hands on As We Grow that I have used in the past, and they have great ideas, but wanted to see what others suggested!
@kissableviv I think the topic got a little lost I've been doing some more research too and have an interview next week with a doula who charges around $900, which seemed like a common rate. It doesn't include a class though, just 2-3 visits, birth support, and 1-2 post birth visits. I think I'll really like this lady, I'm a little worried about my Dr thinking I dont trust her because I'm running everything by my doula, but hopefully the doula has enough experience to make sure that doesn't happen.
@SmashJam coloring, painting, play doh are staples in my house. Finger foods if he likes any of that, bead stringing activities. I just ordered DS this color sorting pie that works with big tweezers that’s supposedly good for fine motor and learning colors.
Something to consider regarding doulas and their services. Many medical groups include a free home visit or two from a postpartum nurse. It's very similar to what the doula would offer, they check on mom's recovery and well being, help with nursing if you want it, check on the baby and answer all 1000000 questions that you may have. Just something to remember before you spend $ on a postpartum doula visit.
Crazy busy work day but benefit of working at hospital is being able to hold cute newborns when your family has them without having to wait until they go home
@WorkinWeezel my doctor warned me of that exact thing when she called to tell me the results were posted. She said it's pretty obvious so I didn't look. I had my friend open it and print it at work for me and stuff it in an envelope. I gave a note saying boy or girl on it today to our baker for a cute little cupcake reveal for us tomorrow night. Yay!!
I took a bunch of photos of DS to use for an announcement. I'm going to poof this later because I don't normally post his face but I can't help myself.

ETA...H is posting the above on social media when we announce. I'm going to post the below, which is a little bit sweeter haha
I would love to be a doula!! I’ve researched it a bunch but haven’t pulled the trigger on it yet.
@ckmb_knottie I don’t think doulas are trained to give medical advice so you should still refer to your doctor for big questions.
@hillbillywife is correct, doulas are non medical and if one wants or tries to give medical advice they are way out of their scope of practice. They are there as a support to you in labour but all medical decisions should be made between you and your OB.
@hillbillywife@comealongponds right, they're not, but that's not what I meant. I just meant if the Dr suggests something and I want my doula's opinion or pov before making a decision, I don't want anybody to get offended. Maybe it doesn't get as awkward as I'm imagining it - hopefully not!
my massage starts any moment haha its 9pm I'm super giddy and super exhausted at the same time but cannot wait for hopefully some major headache relief and relaxation!
@acunamatada@tarheelgirl8 thanks for the suggestions! Those look awesome! I think I can replicate the color sorting pie with some color buttons I bought and tweezers maybe?
@SmashJam - do you have any kitchen tongs? That would likely be easier than tweezers! You can also do a spoon or ice cream scoop with pom poms (sort colors into bowls or ice cube trays). Grab a shoe lace or yarn and some macaroni noodles (uncooked). Eating peas or frozen peas with fingers is a great fine motor activity too. All those can easily be done at home on the cheap!
@samjjorgensen part of me sees it like you, but I know from experience how bad the culture is there. I'm sure it's different for everyone but I would never work there. They are always hiring though!
@kissableviv that's completely understandable. It was more of a joke than anything--I love my current job, but our complete lack of any parental leave policy (it's just STD and FMLA) is embarrassing for 2018. Wishful thinking that all companies start addressing more inclusive policies!
@samjjorgensen I hear you! I joke about it with my husband too, he has amazing benefits. I'm sacrificing those to work from home and work in a very low stress environment, but it's still annoying sometimes! Being from Europe I really fail to understand the lack of maternity leave benefits!
