  • @ChristenMA83 Thanks!! Best of luck to you too!! I'm hoping to start BC at the end of the week...whenever AF shows her face! I haven't been on BC in years, so I'm scared it's gonna make me feel crazy lol

@soehlerk Wish I knew the right answer for you!! If your insurance covers them, I'd probably do another IUI, if not TI is fine IMO. There's pros and cons to both. My body didn't care for either so I'm probably no help!

    @Kim41313 Exciting!! FX for you!

  • Hi All, Happy New Year!

An update from me. My period has been late this month - about 5 days later than expected, and still no signs of starting. That means we're not going to fit an FET in before vacation plans we had later this month, so I'm out for January, and am looking at February instead.

I'm feeling a little frustrated; we booked this vacation months and months ago - we talked about it while I was stimming! - and at the time I'd thought: "No way will I still be undergoing fertility treatments". But throw in a few unexpected delays and a Christmas clinic closure, and here I am... I'm trying to look on the bright side, but it sucks. This whole thing - the scheduling taking over your life and always having to wait, wait, wait and then put your life on hold... it sucks. Plus, before treatments, I was consistently at 28-32 day cycles, but these past few months especially, I've been all over the map... Ugh.

@soehlerk - I'd do the IUI tomorrow, if I could. Better to get the sperm in there and ready than to wait and miss the egg (at least that's my logic).

QOTW: Me, Myself and I by Beyonce.
  • @funkykey I feel you on the scheduling frustration.  DH and I would be starting with a January cycle if our clinics batching for ER wasn't on the same schedule as a trip we've had planned for months.  I just keep telling myself, what's one more month after 7 years....but it's still frustrating.

I was losing weight and working out regularly back in September-Nov, but now I'm afraid to because when I work out and lose weight my cycles get unpredictable and I don't want anything to result in further delays.

@soehlerk no advice for you on the timing, but good luck either was FX for you!

  • Thanks for the advice and encouragement!  I officially hemmed-and-hawed my way out of a choice: the office closed early today, so when i called to switch the IUI to tomorrow, it was too late.  That's ok.  In the past I've had really weak ovulation without the Ovidrel, so hopefully doing the Ovidrel + IUI Thurs is the right call.

I picked the wrong week to give up carbs.   :D

  • @soehlerk I LOVE JEREMY JORDAN—I say as a die-hard “Newsies” fan. He starred in “Newsies” on Broadway, which I saw 4 times, lol.  B) His Celine Dion video is hilarious!

Good luck with your IUI! I’d take the OPK again tonight right before when you need to trigger. It will probably be more solidly positive, in which case I’d trigger tonight anyway and do the IUI tomorrow.

@funkykey I’m so sorry about the delay! What is up with AF? Sooo frustrating! Selfishly, I’m happy to be doing another FET with you in February. :-) But I’m sorry that it came to that, of course!

Oops work calls so back later to respond to everyone else!

QOTW Being from the Detroit area by birth, I’d be disowned if I didn’t say “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey.
  • @Kim41313 How exciting to be starting stims!  FX all goes well for you!

@soehlerk I’m sorry for the extra added stress & confusion. FX it works out!

@funkykey Ugh, sorry your cycle is begins & that you’re bumped to February.  Where is your trip?

@ChristenMA83 That makes complete sense why you don’t want to work out & ‘mess up’ your cycles. Hopefully nothing else delays you!

AFM, AF should be here no later than next Tuesday!  I’m finally ready to get the ball rolling on this first IUI. I am most nervous for how it will all work out with my work. I’m second most nervous about multiples or it not working.  I’m least nervous about the injections.
BFF & I are spending time together tonight at the craft store.  I may go get some chic-fil-a and destroy he evidence before I arrive home. After I just lectured MH about our lack of healthy habits ;)

  • @funkykey & @ChristenMA83 if it's any consolation, I am also forced into waiting (hopefully IUI #1 in Feb) because of this possible polyp issue.  When my RE told me (in early December) that I couldn't get scheduled for surgery for another month, I almost cried in his office.  I was supposed to have this IUI in November!

I am officially going in for surgery tomorrow (finally!).  A little nervous but I know lots of ladies on these boards have gone through similar procedures so that gives me courage.

QOTW: it's a toss-up between Foreigner "I Wanna Know What Love Is" and Cher "If I Could Turn Back Time", though there are sooo many I love.

  • @wishing-and-hoping - GL tomorrow!!

@Bababatty - I know, right? I'm pretty sure it's just that the medication from the November cycle is still in my system - I had bruises from the PIO shots for a whole month after! But the cruel thing about it is it's just taking long enough for me to maybe, maybe think: "Wait, is there a slim chance I could be KU-ed?" I can barely acknowledge that, though. Like, I can't bring myself to take an HPT because I'm way, way too scared to even entertain the thought.

Really, it's most likely just a cruel side-effect of my November FET cycle... prolonged the next cycle just long enough to think: "Maybe there's a chance!". Grr.
  • Hello :)
I hope everyone is doing ok.
No real update from me, I'm still just lurking for now. **TW** I have my first ultrasound on Monday morning - only 4 days, 13 hours and 52 minutes left to go haha. Obviously just hoping we see a healthy heartbeat.
But basically - I am completely terrified and alternating between "everything will be fine" and "but what if it's not"..

Fav Quote: The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return

  • Happy New Year, everyone!  Just finishing up AF and trying to decide where we go from here.  I decided not to refill my last Letrazole bc my holidays were just so emotional and I wasn’t feeling like I was in a good place...and I’ve had a horrible cold since NYE.  I’m really torn between calling a new RE and getting that started or just taking a break from it all.  I really need to lose like 30 lbs and I kind of want to focus on that for a while...of course in the back of my head, I’m like “maybe that’s when I’ll get pregnant...” Anybody else bounce back and forth from feeling like we have plenty of time to then feeling like we have NO TIME AT ALL???????

  • @BWhitta I definitely bounce back and forth like that!  After our last FET, I was ready for a break, but shortly thereafter I was moping because I couldn't do another FET right away.  Today I waffled in a matter of hours, lol.  I'm sorry you've got a nasty cold!  Maybe it's not so much taking a break for you as using this time productively to get in shape.  Perhaps start the hunt for a new RE and maybe even interview a few, but set up the initial consult for a few months from now--your deadline to get in shape?  Feel better!

@Kim41313 Good luck with your stims!  It's so exciting! :)

@ChristenMA83 How are you doing on the BCP?  Any signs of craziness?

@soehlerk Good luck with your IUI tomorrow!  BTW Jeremy Jordan and a lot of the original cast came back for a special performance in LA last year, which was recorded and should be on Netflix.  So you, too, can get your Broadway Newsies fix.

@jrm_14 Woohoo for starting your IUI cycle next week!  I was totally freaked out about HOM my first cycle, so I understand the concern.  Do you or your RE have a threshold of follicles you're unwilling to exceed?

@emmasemm I think setting small goals for your follies seems like a great plan--both mentally and physically since it seems to be working!  I know you've got lots of past experience to draw on, but I still hope your body performs differently this time and you get a few more growing alongside, too. :)

    @wishing-and-hoping How was your surgery??

@Worldtravler0522 Good luck with your FET tomorrow!  I have everything crossed for you that this is finally your sticky bean!!  Also, even as a newb I don't think I was ever that enthusiastic at 6am.  I would also be shooting daggers at them with my eyes, lol.

AFM We had our second opinion appointment today finally and we've decided to switch clinics.  So that was a bit of a surprise, since we just went in as a bit of a formality to make ourselves feel better.  I was so impressed with this RE, though.  He spent a lot of time talking to us, and it seems like we would get more personalized care so I'm happy to make the switch.  Of course we were intending for IVF #2 to start with my next cycle in two weeks, so now it's a rush to see if we can complete all of their prerequisites in time--we have to do another IVF training class (sigh) and he ran a ton of blood tests today.  At least I hadn't paid for IVF at our current clinic yet.

Also cool--he did an u/s today and I got to see my dominant follie for this cycle, which is ready to go.  I've never seen myself when my body was gearing up to O during a natural cycle, so I thought that was neat.  Must BD tonight....
  • @Bababatty thanks lady I’m hopeful this is it!  That’s great you clicked with the new place, I hope they can get you in this cycle!

  • @BWhitta I totally get where you are right now! That was me last Summer. We took a break from meds, etc and ended up being the best decision! When we got back to dr appointments, we were clearheaded and knew what we wanted / needed to do. 2nd opinion also isn't a bad idea either. @Worldtravler0522 good luck tomorrow! Also, perky at a blood draw? Just no.

@BWhitta I know that feeling. Tends to vary based on where I am in my cycle. AF = no time, TWW = “don’t call and make an appointment, you have all the time, plus this is totally it anyway”. Sigh. I’m glad you’re making a decision based on what you need for you!

@wishing-and-hoping hope the surgery went well! Fx for a speedy recovery!

AFM - first IVF monitoring appointment today and I have no idea what to think. They didn’t comment, either, other than to give a med update. Next appointment is Saturday. Maybe they’ll be more forthcoming then? But seriously, why would they think I don’t want all the details? This process has made me patient enough, thank you :)

ETA power ballads! Total eclipse of the heart for sure, then journey, then anything off the “get psyched mix” (bonus if you get the reference!)
  • @halfanewt Def ask at Saturday's appointment! I remember I had to ask my sonogrammer #'s etc. It would drive me insane!!

  • @bababatty thanks for asking.  No crazy signs as of yet.  My DH and work bestie are on stand by to let me know if I start going cray cray.  I think I'm just a little more mentally mature than I was at 18/19 :)

Good luck trying with the natural cycle.  FX for you.  It's so nice to find an RE you like.  We relate so much better with the doctor we're working with now than we did during our first stab at this a few years back.

  • Thanks everybody for the well wishes.  Surgery went well yesterday, no complications and they did find a polyp.  They removed that polyp and they also did the curettage to give the rest of my uterus a good scrape.  All in 20 minutes!  Kinda crazy.  Hoping this will be the answer we've been looking for but know that this may only be one piece of the puzzle.  Now just have to wait, have a followup in a week or two and then I guess we'll get going with IUI in February.

  • Hi everyone....I've had a crazy busy week so far between IVF, work, and getting the house cleaned and ready for the craziness of the next week......so sorry if I miss anyone

@kristimh80 GL with your IVF this month.  I too am doing IVF this month.
@Kim4313 Yay for starting stims! One step closer
@ChristenMA83 Those 4 weeks on BC before IVF are hard, I hope it goes by fast for you.
@soehlerk Yay for your good follies! Keeping FX for you
@funkykey Sorry you are feeling frustrated and AF is not cooperating.  I hope you have a nice time on your vacation though!
    @jrm_14 GL with your IUI
@wishing-and-hoping I'm glad the surgery went well.
@emmasemm Yay for your 2 follies!  Keeping FX
@Worldtravler0522 Keeping my FX for your FET.  Also, who squeals for blood work?!?!?! I would probably be the grumpy lady right next to you.  Forget everything else, that's just plain too early to be that excited about anything.
@BWhitta OMG yes, all the time.  I go back and forth so much with that kind of thinking.
@Bababatty I'm glad you really liked this new RE.  Keeping my FX for you
@halfanewt I had my first monitoring US yesterday too...and my next one is Saturday.  We're monitoring buddies :)

AFM...as I mentioned, I've been super busy at work and at home.  I got the house all cleaned and organized so there won't be much housework that needs to be done in the next week and a half.  I have the freezer stock piled with frozen pizzas, lasagna, and other easy stuff so that we don't have to worry about planning meals once things get really busy.  Today I am working on getting everything squared away at work so that everything is ready depending on what days I will need to be gone.

Had my first monitoring US and labs yesterday.  Ovaries are looking good...right where they need to be according to the nurse.  I had several follicles at about 9 (3 in the left and 1-2 in the right) and a couple of smaller follies in both.  I go back Saturday for my next appt which is awesome because I thought it would be Friday but Saturday makes things a whole heck of a lot easier.  My clinic is a good 1 hour and 40 minutes away.  Usually we stay at my SIL's house the night before but my nephew had possible Influenza the other day and we didn't want to risk it.....so I got up at 4:45 yesterday morning, drove the hour and 40 minutes to Madison, got my labs, and drove back. Needless to say, I was pretty tired.  With the next being on a Saturday, we can just go down and stay the weekend.  If I'm really lucky, the one after will be Monday morning so we can stay through until then and go home after.

It just hit me today that my egg retrieval window of the 7th-13th is only a few days away.  I feel a little like I just ran into a brick wall and I"m a bit stunned.  So much time waiting and suddenly it's like we jumped to warp speed.

QOTW:  Oooooo that's a tough one.  How can one pick their favorite power ballad.  I"m going to be honest, it probably changes between a number of ones that I prefer to belt in my car.  I would say it has to be between "Alone" by Heart, or just about any other power ballad that has been on Glee (my guilty pleasure).

  • @soehlerk FX for your IUI! I am "trying" to eat less carbs, and its incredibly difficult. More power to you if you can stick to it!

@funkykey I'm sorry you won't fit an FET in before your vacation. I know what you mean about all the scheduling and planning, it does suck. Hang in there.

@Bababatty Don't Stop Believing is a great one! If all goes according to plan (haha, we'll see about that) I might be February FET buddies with you and @funkykey! I'm glad that you feel comfortable with the new RE! I hope you are able to get everything done in time to do your FET next cycle.

@jrm_14 I hope you had fun crafting with your BFF! I just did the same last week with my BFF (she lives a few hours away and we don't get to see each other a lot) and it was a lot of fun!

@wishing-and-hoping I hope all went well with your surgery!

@tops-2 Good luck Monday, FX for you!

@emmasemm yay for 2 follies! FX the third catches up!!

@Worldtravler0522 I hope your FET went well! Ughh for the newbies at the RE's office. I don't really understand how anyone can be that excited to be seeing an RE? I mean, I get being excited when you've been waiting forever and things are finally happening, but that's a bit much for me lol

@BWhitta I bounce back and forth all the time! I think its totally normal. A few months ago we were thinking of switching to a new RE out of state, which would mean having to wait until like June to start IVF. I actually made an appointment with them, thinking it was no big deal to wait a few more months. I ended up cancelling and sticking with our current RE, probably when I was having a moment of "I CAN'T WAIT 6 MORE MONTHS!" So you are not alone lol

@halfanewt Hmmm... did they say anything like "every thing looks good" ? I would probably ask them at your next appointment. I personally would hate to be blindsided with the number of eggs we get because they didn't share how things are looking at my monitoring appointments.

@hoffmanr7 I am trying to do the same thing with cleaning and cooking this week so that I don't have to worry about it for the next couple of weeks. Great minds!  ;)  and ugghhhh to getting up at 4:45, that sounds torturous to me! Especially with this cold weather! (I'm not sure where you are but it seems like most of the US is experiencing freezing weather).

AFM, stims are going well. Gonal-F is the easiest thing, but the Menopur will take some getting used to lol. I think I'll need to watch the video for that one again tonight. I have bloodwork Saturday and my first monitoring appointment on Monday. I'm a little concerned that I won't be responding as well as I should be. I'm not sure why, its kind of irrational. I'm just kind of terrified that we won't get many eggs. I think the "unexplained" diagnosis is contributing to that, since we don't know what the problem is,I feel like something, anything, can go wrong at any point. Plus the fact that I didn't suppress before we started is contributing a little as well. MH is going to come with me on Monday so I'm happy about that.
  • @Kim41313 The getting up at 4:45 part wasn't too horrible.  When I exercise (I shoot for all week days, but lets be honest, its usually more like 3 days a week) I get up at 5:20 so it's not too much earlier.  The worst part was the drive.  It was pitch black pretty much the whole drive there there, there was just a little bit of snow (I'm a Wisconsinite so I'm used to driving in a lot worse), not a lot but just enough for a lot of crap to get kicked up, and my Audible app on my phone wasn't coming through on the bluetooth on my car (a minor thing, but I like my audio books for long drives).  I went through a lot of wiper fluid and my black Equinox is mostly white with salt......and I mean from the back it looks like a white car.  I swear in some spots the salt is a half an inch thick.

  • @Bwhitta I totally get that.  The holidays are brutal with IF.  Good for you for taking a break.  And YES--I mean not this instant (we're selling our house, doing IUIs, trying this new diet, and planning an unexpected funeral, so 2018 has really hit the wall), but normally I go between thinking I have too much time (spent watching Netflix, doing laundry, staring at Facebook) to suddenly feeling like I'll never get it all done.

@Bababatty Good for you for making the switch!  That's a tough call to make, but it helps when you both feel good about it.  And OMG thank you for the Netflix recommendation.  I have saved it to my list to watch when life slows down.  Are you the one who recommended "How to Buy a Baby" on youtube?  Because that was also a great recommendation.

@wishing-and-hoping I'm glad the surgery went well!  GL with recovery!

@kim41313 dude giving up carbs (and sugar) suuuuuucks.  Today I broke down and ordered fries and a diet coke for lunch.  No burger, just fries.  But it tasted like guilt.  (Delicious guilt.)

IUI this morning went smoothly.  I'm just feeling down because I feel like I missed my ovulation.  But next month will be better.

Then yesterday afternoon my grandmother passed away suddenly--she was 92 years old, but she was in good health, still drove, still lived on her own.  We had just been celebrating her birthday a couple weeks ago, eating pizza and playing cards.  She died while working out at the local gym.  There was a Dr there who rushed over and used the defibrillator on her, but she was gone.  She could have been at home where no one found her for days--or we would always wonder if something more could have been done.  She lived 92 good years and then died--I suppose that's all any of us can hope for.  :)  Sorry for the mushy post.

@BWhittaI totally get what's you mean about going back and forth. We decided to try naturally until summer 2019 and use that time to save for IVf and then go that route if necessary. Since making the decision I've been like hey I'll only be 35 when we start, not too bad, still have 5-7 years to get KU w/ IVF..we got this. And then this week I was in total hysterics bawling uncontrollably because I can't believe I'm getting so old and don't know if I can wait another year and a half. Ugh

Speaking of emotional mess...the One More Shot documentary was recommended on here so I ended up renting last week. Thank goodness I was home by myself as I was an ugly crying disaster snuggling my dog on the livinn room floor, lol. It is a good documentary but please don't watch when you're having a bad day!

@benjay I love the idea of a TTC flowchart and that is totally in my wheelhouse.  I might play with something while to distract me from not being able to do anything else productive on the TTC front right now.

  • @Worldtravler0522  fx for you!  hope the time passes quickly.

@soehlerk sorry about your grandmother.  wow, 92 years old and working out at the gym!  sounds like she made the most of her time on earth, but it's always hard to let someone go, even when they have lived a long and full life.

@ChristenMA83 we seem to be on the same timeline for our next step (though I am doing IUI).  doesn't february feel so far away???

@BenJay it is so hard to figure out next steps sometimes.  the strange thing about IF is how often things are unexplained.  and the fact that the docs don't really explore what it could be because no matter what it is, the treatments are basically the same.  i often feel frustrated not knowing why i haven't been able to conceive.  i have generally just gone with my RE's recommendations of next steps because i figure he knows a lot more than i do with my internet searches!
