Questions w/o 12/11

I looked for this thread but didn't find it, I apologize in advance if I doubled!

My question this week is has anyone else gained weight yet? I've gained 8 lbs already and I'm only 7w4d! I don't remember gaining this quick with my DD and DS.

Re: Questions w/o 12/11

  • @zg49 I've gained roughly 4. I think a lot is bloat. Overall we should not out on more than 5pounds in the first tri but it depends on your starting weight :)

  • My question is super silly. Anyone has their belly button pierced? Wondering how long I'll be able to keep it before the belly stretches too much!
  • @zg49 I don't think we had a new one for this weeks, thanks for starting it!
Could the extra weight be bloat? I felt like I gained a few lbs of water weight/bloat in the way beginning, but now at almost 11 weeks I'm still down to the same weight.

@kissableviv I never put my belly button ring back in after DS because the hole stretched out too weird, but I kept it for a while! Like 20 weeks? It depends on when you show. They also have pregnancy belly rings that are flexible. For me, it got really uncomfortable as my belly got bigger, but I think maybe my piercing wasn't done deep enough if that makes any sense and it put a lot of pressure on the skin holding the ring in. If you do take it out it'll probably still be open after the baby if you've had it a while. Mine still is and I haven't had a ring in it for years!
  • @kissableviv @acunamatada Yea it could be bloat I 'spose. We haven't had an ultrasound yet so everyone close to me that knows we are pregnant keeps asking if its twins

  • @zg49 sorry I don't have anything new to say, but I would agree with possible bloat especially if you've been drinking a lot of water.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @kissableviv It depends on your belly button. I have a deep belly button that never popped out with my first pregnancy. I could have worn a belly button ring up until delivery. They may ask you to take it out then in case you end up with a c-section. Otherwise, it's totally up to your body type/belly button.
  • @Kenya715 I never got an outie either, but I got like a stretch mark inside the piercing if that makes any sense?
  • Thanks all for the responses! Let's see how long I can keep it on. My mom always hated it so she'd be ecstatic if I never get to wear it again!
  • I think the early pregnancy weight gain is usually mostly due to bloat.  As long as you're not being unreasonable with food, you should be fine. From what I've read, and I do not know how true this is, you do not actually need to eat any extra calories until 2nd trimester, then it's only like 300 more calories a day (for my weight range anyway).

However what I need to do and what I actually do are two separate things... I am not normally a breakfast eater, but now if I don't eat as soon as I wake up, I feel like I'm just going to die, lol.
  • I am about 4-5 lbs heavier but i think it’s bloat. I look way bigger in the afternoon too. My clothes still for for the most part. I am eating more. I usually don’t eat breakfast but i have the past few weeks. I don’t remember how much i gained in first tri with DS but overall it was 45-50 lbs.
  • I have gained 2-3 pounds. I am starting off 7 pounds below my normal weight, and my first pregnancy I didn’t gain anything in the first trimester, so I was interested to see what would happen this time.

Regarding the belly button piercing - I left mine in until mid-second tri last time and then it started feeling a little uncomfortable so I just took it out. I wasn’t interested in trying to keep it / put it back in. I loved it when I was an older teenager and it was “cool” but I just don’t care about it anymore, lol.

  • @zg49 I technically haven't gained, but I lost 5+ then became a hunger demon sent to devour every morsel of food available and gained it right back, lol. I also gained sooo much with my son, though.

My questions is, is anyone else finding they look sick 24/7? This time has me looking like walking death (sickly pale and dull skin, brittle hair, huge circles under glassy eyes and my face refuses to hold any kind of makeup). How are you covering it up to NOT look like you've just been released from long term care?

  • I think it definitely depends on your starting weight. I am overweight and still working out but nothing extreme and am down 3 lbs but a lot of that is from nausea and lack of appetite at times as well as working on staying active.

weight gain posts tend to make me uncomfortable mainly because I know I need to gain far less than some and it can be hard for past ED struggles but I know it is natural. I have just seen people later on almost brag about how little they have gained or no one can tell they are pregnant because of how small they are still. I have the opposite problem people don't know im pregnant because im on the fluffier side.

  • @d_marie_23 i find that mascara goes a long way for me lol without it i look dead tired. My hair is never done tho. Usually in a bun or beanie.
  • @d_marie_23 I have to put concealer under my eyes and need a good amount of makeup so I don't look sick! I can't leave the house without makeup and my hair up!
  • @d_marie_23 mascara and eye primer or some kind of nude eyeshadow. It helps me when my eyelids are a bit red or simply blah from the overall pale complexion, lol. I also swear by the matcha stick by Cocokind for dark circles. So great if you live where it's cold, too.
  • @zg49 I gained like that with my first. By the end of my first tri it was about 11 pounds. My docotor seemed pleased because my BMI was a low percentage. This time, food just isn't as delicious and I have more adversions than cravings.
  • @zg49 I've gained weight faster this time than with my other three.   Im,having a hard time eating non carbs, my job just changed and is more sedentary, i started out 20 pounds lighter than my other pregnancies, and I know my body loves weight when pregnant.

  • Does anyone have experience with weaning off progesterone and estrace? I just dropped one 200 mg dose starting Tuesday and I am nervous.
  • @d_marie_23 Yes! I didn't know it was a thing until I read your post. I look horrible and I don't know why. It's like my skin changed overnight and now my foundation is the wrong color, won't stay on my skin longer than an hour, I just look bleh. Definitely not helping.

When it comes to weight, try not to stress too much and I don't think we should continue a conversation. It's so easy to become obsessed with it and hard not to compare yourself to everyone else when we all have such different body types and backgrounds. Listen to your doctor if they have concerns but know that you're bound to gain a lot of weight quickly because you're growing a human! It's expected! And it'll take time to come off after but don't focus on it now. You have so much else going on!

@lindsayleigh1989 A. You are beautiful, truly, so I hope you don't talk yourself down. B. If this pregnancy is anything like mine was with DS I will be gaining sooooooooooooo much weight over the next 7 months it'll be ridiculous. So any time a braggy post discourages you, just come to me, lol.

    @wildtot @mikayla14mom @kissableviv
Thanks for the tips (I think I'll especially look into that Cocokind... Massachusetts, so definitely cold)!!!!. It's just so gross when putting on foundation looks like I'm smearing on acrylic paint. Grrrr pregnancy skin. @Kenya715 Yup. You are sooo not alone.

  • @d_marie_23 I look like death.  Like pale and my eyes look a little dark.  I don't wear foundation, but I've found that a little blush goes a long way :)

@kissableviv I took mine out before I got pregnant with my first and kept it out with my second, but then got it redone a few years ago.  My belly button never popped, so I think I just might buy one of those plastic things to put in there as I get bigger.  I'm just concerned about the hole stretching.

  • I'm not so much worried about the weight gain, I just don't remember how quickly I gained it last time. Overall with DD I gained like 45lbs and DS I gained just under 40 and thankfully none of my drs put too much emphasis on the weight gain or cared much. This time around gaining so much so fast has me looking 5 months pregnant already which is kind of nice because I don't have to suck in the gut anymore and can just blame it on being pregnant but kind of sucks when people ask "oh so your 4/5 months already?" uh....nope!

  • I was super worried about keeping the weight gain to an absolute minimum until we found out it’s twins. Now it’s just like whatever happens happens and just like hire a trainer a few times a week on the other end
  • @Lelo2006 I didn't even notice a difference last time. I am on even more hormones this time and can't wait to drop them :(
  • Question: I know this thread will be over today- FTM here- do you find out baby’s sex at the anatomy scan? Just saw someone post that on the gender reveal thread.... what happens if you don’t want to know?
  •  @catftm2018 I think you can just tell them you don’t want to know and they won’t tell you..I’m a FTM too but I’m pretty sure that’s how I would approach it. I’m sure they acquise all the time to that particular request
  • @devilcat139 thank you! I’m assuming they have to look around a lot to check the baby at that time. Was just wondering how they avoid it lol.
  • @catftm2018 they will know, they just won't tell you if you request it. It's not obvious to the untrained eye so you wouldn't be able to tell
  • What @Crystal321 said, but you can also have them tell you to look away when they look at that exact area if you are especially worried.

  • Exactly as @djh513 said. I have zero ability to read ultrasounds anyway, but before looked at anything indicative of the sex, they asked me if we wanted to find our wait so that we could turn away if need be. If your nervous about an accident slip up, explicitly tell them at the very beginning of the scan that you do not want to find out. They see so many women each day, so just be assertive about your wishes.

Anyone else’s nausea almost completely subside, yet they are continuing to loose weight? I’ve lost 7lbs so far and 3 this week alone. I haven’t thrown up at all this pregnancy and I’m eating semi normal lately.
I know I lost weight in the first tri with DS but I don’t remember when i stopped. I’m by no means complaining, I have weight to loose (from DS), it just doesn’t make sense! I’m so confused!

Edit it to add: I just read the rest of the comments and I see I’m having the opposite problems as other ladies. Haha. I know that this loss has nothing to do with how much weight I’ll gain. I’m super good at gaining weight and gained 40 with DS.
  • My question is for moms of twins. When my doc asked me if I had questions I was still in utter shock from finding out there were two that I couldn’t think of any. Now I have a million, but I’ll start with just one. Did you increase your dose of vitamins or just take the same amount as if it were a singleton?
  • @paytonpedro I was down 5lbs in 2 weeks at my last MW appt. They asked me if I was having any MS- I'm not lol. Haven't thrown up once and my nausea is non existent now, unless I've eaten too much. I'm not complaining, but it's weird!
  • @acunamatada I also get it if I eat too much! Like, after last night's pig out at the ramen place!
  • @powellgirl was advised to keep taking the same dose with twins. Too much can be toxic
  • @powellgirl same dose, too much vitamins can be toxic

  • Did anyone go to school while pregnant? I was going to start a coding bootcamp in January, however it would end right around my due date, so I backed out. I'm wondering if I should just do some coding classses online. Pregnancy brain is alive and kicking for me, so I am a bit hesitant for this reason, as well energy...

  • @zombiehoohaa not really school, but during my first pregnancy I took 16 weeks of online courses for my PHR certification and took the test while 7 months pregnant. If you want to do it, I'd say do it now. For me the pregnancy brain turned into newborn brain then working mom brain so Im glad I got it out of the way back then.

@zombiehoohaa I was pregnant my junior year of college and had DS 6 weeks before my senior year started- it's possible! The first tri was the hardest by far, once you make it past that it's a lot easier. BUT I was in a social work program so it didn't require a ton of memorization, just lots of papers, so it might be different for you. If it's something you really want to do, do it now- it'll only get harder after baby!
