I'm frustrated and confused. I'm doing the genetic testing (I'm 34). I have an appointment in early January for a genetic testing appointment followed by the NT scan. The appointments are one after another in the same location where they do all the ultrasounds. This makes no sense to me. I thought you do the genetic testing like harmony/panorama at like 10 weeks. By the time of this appointment I will be 12 weeks. I feel like my doctor's office knows what they are doing, as does this ultrasound place but this timing isn't adding up. Does this sound incorrect to you guys? I'm so confused.
@runsomewhere, I think there’s a pretty big window of time that they can be done, starting at 10 weeks. My guess is the holidays are pushing you back a bit, but I wouldn’t think it’s a big deal.
@runsomewhere I'm not familiar with when they do the testing or when they should, but maybe they just wanted to save you the extra trip so they pushed the harmony/panorama back a couple weeks?
Thanks @blair_krank and @acunamatada. I called to ask about it and left a message. The reason it is a big deal to me is that I want to do these tests ASAP so that if god forbid something severe is wrong and we need to terminate I am as early as possible. I don't want to be bleak or contraversial but that's the sad reality of these things.
@runsomewhere that's understandable. Do you know the turnaround for the harmony/panorama testing? NT testing is same day, or at least it was with my last pregnancy.
@acunamatada Thanks for understanding. I'm not sure but I think it's a few business days. I didn't do it with my last pregnancy.
I remember that last time at the time of the NT scan they had some blood work results from a sample I gave earlier so those results combined with the NT ultrasound gave the overall risk. We didn't do any further testing after that but I am anxious to this time around.
@runsomewhere I'd try and stay positive! I know AMA is scary but the 35 cutoff isn't a magic number. I've read that many defects don't increase significantly until closer to 40. Statistically, you have every chance of having a perfectly uneventful prenancy and healthy baby!
@acunamatada yeah for sure, I won't even be 35 until a couple months before the baby comes but all these tests feel like opening up a can of worms. It got me thinking about possible results and any decisions that might need to be made
I would like to bitch. In August, I took on a new position with a company that acts as a contract company for the place I worked before I transitioned. Since coming on board, there have been several things just thrown on me randomly, and I'm fucking annoyed by it. For example, instead of managing one department, I got two very different departments thrown under me. Now I've become the backup for our night shift manager (which I would have NOT taken the position if I knew that). So for the next three days I don't get to be with my kid, and after working 3:30 pm to 3:30 am, I HAVE to report into work on Thursday at 7:00 am.
I swear I'll never make an ambitious switch again in my life.
@runsomewhere where in California are you? I just had my 10w appointment and they drew blood for one of the screenings, but the NT is in 2 weeks. Basically my doctor told me I could have done this blood sample in 2 weeks if I wanted only one draw, of course I could not care less and opted for 1 now and the rest in 2 weeks-also because he gets results and gender on Thursday this week for this test. The window is indeed 10-13 for the California screening program. Do you have the pamphlet about it?
I hear you on the anxiety as I'll be 35 for one month of the pregnancy but TBH I need to stop freaking out. I've already had 2 crisis as a FTM+ hypochondriac and I'm just tired of negative crap, lol. My husband says it's like breathing directly to from an exhaust pipe! With that said, I hear you on the fact that decisions have to be made as I am on the exact same wavelength as you.
@runsomewhere the nurse at my very first appointment said you could get the panorama done at any point past 10 weeks because before that there’s not enough fetal matter to register in a blood sample.
I also think I remember that NT has to be done before 14 weeks. But I’m pulling that out of my ass.
@kat029 that is plain ridiculous, I'm so sorry! @lindsayleigh1989 I also need a haircut really bad but my stylist is a bit far from home and I don't trust anyone else...and I've been too freaking lazy to plan to go see her. Blah!
@kat029 that's awful, I'm surprised they can even do that.
@kissableviv I'm in the Bay Area. The doc called my back to clarify. I had my first ultrasound at 7w5d, did a blood sample then for various diseases. They have me a referal for the NT scan and genetic testingwhich is optional. This is not done at my doc's office but at this specialty pace with fancy untrasound machines. When I called they scheduled both the NT and genetics for January 4th. The NT scan timing made sense the genetic part did not. They rescheduled the genetic appointment for right after Christmas. They said they originally scheduled it the same day as NT so I didn't have to take 2 trips but I want the appointment asap. I don't have any pamphlets but I'm a STM so I thought I knew what to expect lol. While I'm thankful that extra testing is available it definitely adds to the stress.
@hillbillywife you are correct! I heard back and I was able to reschedule the genetic testing for before the NT scan.
So I need a place to whine. My SCH has actually grown after my week of bedrest. It's larger than the gestational sac now. The doctor has me on bedrest again until at least next Monday. I am scared and upset, and ANNOYED in general. Looks like I may spend Christmas in bed too if things don't shape up
@kat029 I dunno what the labor laws are for whatever field you work in, but when I was a waitress and often covered 3rd shift after also working second, they couldn't have me come in for my shift at 5pm the next day because of labor laws....I think it was a full 12 hours of rest after working 12 hours, or something like that. I can't remember the exact rules but I do know I had to have time off in between.
ETA my bitch: I picked up my pork from the slaughterhouse today and this is the first time i have ever had my pigs cut at the slaughter house so I asked a lot of questions when I dropped them off, one being can you cut my hams into ham steaks and have the smokehouse still smoke them? "Oh yeah, sure no problem!" No. No they cannot do it. I now have 30# of PORK STEAKS that I am not happy about, lol. I mean, they are still edible but not the cut I wanted. Sigh.
@runsomewhere I haven't read the whole thread yet but am I remembering correctly that you are in California? I know the state provided genetic screening is scheduled at the same time or very close to the NT scan. With DS we had our scan, then met with a genetic counselor right after to go over family history and I believe results from a basic screening panel they took from earlier bloodwork. Not nearly as in depth as Panorama. I am only saying this because I'd want you to make sure that your doctor knows you want Panorama and isn't passing you off to the state run testing in lieu of Panorama.
ETA ignore me, I see you are already on top of it. That's what I get for posting before reading.
@crystal321 ugh, I am so sorry. That must be disheartening. Just try and remember that in hindsight, this will feel like a small speed bump in your road to a healthy happy baby. Hugs!
Catching up. @runsomewhere I think they can do it up to 20 weeks? 10 is the earliest. With my daughter (in CA four years ago) they very specifically had me do it at 16 weeks, so who knows?
@smashjam I liked reading your bitch. Sorry about the pigs.
I feel BIG today! Like, huge. I don't look any different, but my uterus is higher, I can feel it. Harder to bend over as well, feels like there's a firm ball in there. Hoping I start showing soon through the flab, that would be great!
@kat029, I’m sorry, what an awful position to be in.
@Crystal321, so sorry to hear that your sch has grown—I hope the extra bed rest helps.
@lindsayleigh1989, I feel you about the haircut. My stylist had to cancel on me last week because of a stomach bug, and I was so disappointed. I’m rescheduled to go in tomorrow. I hope you get your appointment soon!
As for me, I have to admit that I’m feeling a little anxious about my own NIPT. I go in tomorrow at 10w3d. I’m over 40–turned 40 back in April. I am telling myself that the odds of something being wrong are still low, and that I know others my age who have had perfectly healthy babies. We’re going to see what the results are and go from there (I haven’t been offered an NT scan). I’m worried and trying not to be.
I had a snoogle and loved it.... then my husband took it over and has been using it for the past 2 and a half years.... I am going to have to buy me a new one. I don't even want that old one anymore, lol
@acunamatada I hate the app so much. That's why I'm usually only on here on the days that I work and am sitting at a desktop computer. It's such a headache that it's not worth it to me lol.

I'm excited to hit 10 weeks soon! That's 1/4th of the way there! Plus, I feel like things start moving faster after that. I have this list of milestones in my head: 1/4 of the way there; then NT scan and finding out gender; then the anatomy scan and the half way point; then viability; then you're getting to the siggle digits of weeks to go then count down to baby!
@wildtot I loved the Snoogle as others have said. I also had a wedge pillow (I think it might have been the Boppy brand) to put under my belly in third tri. So I had a combo of the Snoogle and the wedge pillow lol. My husband hated it because it took up so much room in our queen bed. Now that we have a king sized bed hopefully he won't complain about it!

I had the Snoogle last pregnancy and am evidently part of the minority that DIDN'T like it. I switch sides a LOT while sleeping and felt like I needed to completely rotate the pillow everyone as well so it "fit" right. I'm sure I'll try it out this pregnancy as well but havent even thought about getting it out yet.

@kat029 whaaaaat? So they expect you to come into work 4 hours after leaving? Is that even legal?
@lindsayleigh1989 ugh I'm sorry how frustrating! I'm in need of a serious haircut myself but I just have zero time to follow through with it.
