Re: Weekly Randoms w/o 12/11

  • I'm having issues getting the Amazon registry box lol. First, I didn't realize I registered/bought something for 9.99 instead of $10 :|  Then I add/buy something else... and it's not due to deliver till after jan 2nd. Wth.
I cant find where I thought I read it, but do I have a short time frame before I'm not eligible for the box? Dec 31st is sticking in my head for some reason. (Just started a registry last wk).

  • @catlady1215 I don’t know on the Amazon box, but I saw these last night at Target and thought of you.  They’re TINY Tates - so cute!  It was also one of those ironic times when I never see something then someone says something and it and BAM, there they were!
  • @catlady1215 I think I remember seeing Dec 31st. And I also think it wont say you are eligible until the item has shipped. Is there anything else you need from Amazon that you could add to your registry and order?

You also have to check off every category on the check list. I wasn't ready to add everything so I just checked them off and now that I have my box I will go back and uncheck them.

  • guys is the box really worth it? I would need to go get my mom's amazon account and make a registry because hers is the primary account etc. She loves giving people her amazon password, so it's not really a big deal except then she'll start buying shit from it because that's who she is as a person. I'm trying to keep my registry secret lol.
  • @doxiemoxie212 when I did it last time it wasn’t worth it, but the last time it didn’t have the cute swaddle or onesie. I also didn’t have to buy anything last time.  It took a long time though because it makes you add stuff from lots of categories.  I was making a fake one so I just added whatever and it still took awhile.
  • @doxiemoxie212 not super worth it. I did get a Burt’s bees bibb that was soft and went over the head instead of snapping that I got a lot of use of. Nothing mind blowingly spectacular if I recall.

  • @miz_liz tiny Tate's! I never heard of those but I feel I need to try them lol

@krashke i saw that shipped thing after i ordered. I was all 'damnit!!' Lol. I'm struggling on finding stuff I know we need. Haven't gone through DS' stuff yet. I bought one of those diaper cream 'spatula' things and a cute onesie outfit.

didnt know about the category thing though. Grrrr. They're making this to difficult.

  • They do make it kind of a PITA but IMO it was worth it not only do you get the box, which has a cute onesie and swaddle and a decent sized pack of huggies, but with the registry you also get a free parenting ebook, that if you don't have an e-reader you can just download the kindle app for free to read it, and a free item. For the free item, they change what is offered pretty regularly from Nuks and bottles or rattles to a hooded bath towel. I got the bath towel and it's not the most soft but it's cute and it was free.

Lastly if you are going to use it as your main registry, which we are, after you spend $1,000 between you and whoever buys off your registry, you get $100 diaper credit.

Anyone else's food indecisiveness on 1000? I want pasta, chili, taco salad, and a bagel. I CANNOT MAKE UP MY MIND. Meanwhile I have leftovers sitting right next to me because after I got chicken strips yesterday I decided on pizza.

  • @doxiemoxie212 why do you want to keep the registry secret?  In my experience (which may be completely different than yours) people will only really look at the registry if you are having a shower or after you have the baby.  This way they can send a congratulatory gift (especially true for out of state family and friends) without having to bother you asking for your address and if there is anything you need. These gifts are smaller- clothes, bath stuff, diapers than the big ticket items.  People not having a shower use it for the completion discount and the above mentioned benefits ($100 in diapers from Amazon/ Cash back from BRU/ ect).

As for your mother buying everything off the registry- my MIL lives 4.5 hours away and so doesn't get to see our DD as much as she wants.  She tends to buy us more- diapers, baby food, small gifts, most of the big items on our registry- than my parents because it is her way to feel connected to the baby.  I think she was actually hurt when we bought the nursery furniture for DD. She went out and bought a crib bedding set we didn't ask for (or want).  I'd much rather have her spending her money on things we want/ need- since she is going to buy us stuff anyway.

But you do have 3 options for your registry.  Keep it private (only you can see it), Shared (only people with the link can access) and public.

  • @jsl82 mostly I'm treating the registry as a reminder for me and DH, but since we're ~~maybe at some point moving cross country (lol who knows when! or if!) and we're currently in an NYC apartment, I just really don't want anyone to buy us any stuff. DH's parents literally don't do gifts even though they're fairly wealthy - it's like it doesn't occur to them. So I don't think I have to worry on that front. But my mom just loves to buy isht for me. I'm an only child. I'm still the youngest person in the extended family (at age 29). She knows better than to buy me stuff she's not sure if I want, but if she had access to a list of stuff I even maybe want, she'd start buying it (like I told her once I like sweaters from Everlane, and guess what I have a ton of  now? Stuff from Everlane. Like, she'll randomly try to send me jeans from Everlane, which was cute before I was pregnant, but now I'm like STOP SENDING ME STUFF THAT WON'T FIT ME lol). And I just don't have anywhere to put anything. No stuff! We'll buy as we need when the baby is here if we're still in NYC (everything has same day delivery here) or hopefully we'll be gone from NYC, and I don't have to keep worrying about it at all. But until then, secret registries.
  • @doxiemoxie212 I didn't think the Amazon box was worth it.  As a STM, I'm fairly set on the type of soap, lotion, diapers, wipes I will use.  The only thing cute was a swaddle. They sent me a plain white onesie.

Also, even if you create the registry, you don't have to put anything on it. I just marked all the categories complete.

  • @doxiemoxie212 gotcha- DH is an only child too, so MIL goes extra crazy for us because DD/DS are her only grandchildren.  I would still suggest a registry- maybe not amazon since you are using your mom's account- but you should take advantage of the registry benefits since you are going to have to buy this stuff anyway.  If you want the amazon box you can mark everything as complete (but I would load up on diapers and wipes- your mom can buy them to her hearts content as you will use them!). For the bigger purchases you can literally add them right before you buy them and it counts as a purchase on your registry- and thus counts towards the $1K on Amazon & the 5-10% cash back from BRU. I believe you use ebates- same concept- don't leave free money on the table.

I have a random question as well.  Does anyone have a Toyota Highlander?  I need to get a new car before the end of the year (my registration is going to expire and I don't want to change the registration to PA & fix everything the inspection finds wrong.  Too much money for a car I want to upgrade.  We are looking to get either the Highlander or Sienna because I want a 3rd row with 2 kids under 2, especially for longer car rides.  Any feedback on either vehicle would be great- the good, the bad, and if there is any ugly would be greatly appreciated.

  • I've been having way more anxiety than usual. I don't know if it's from seeing some later losses here recently. I know you are never out of the woods, but I had let myself relax a little bit after 9 or 10 weeks. I'm 13w4d and I'm starting to worry again.
  • @ffw0617 ~ I’m jealous that all that sounds good to you. I’m still waiting for the day where food sounds good again.
  • @jsl82 I have a highlander and I love it!  I initially hated the appearance of the interior when I looked at it but after a few months of research and looking at other cars I finally gave and I am so glad I did!  We needes 3 rows because we’re on #3 and kids come with so.much.stuff!  I also really wanted captains chairs for the middle row, so we had to go with the highest model, but also no regrets there.  Only downside is no remote starter and no DVD player.
  • Thanks @Miz_Liz have long have you had the Highlander?  Any mechanical issues?

I’m currently on Medscape doing some continuing education to renew my nursing license and just read a study showing that epidural analgesia does not prolong the second stage of labor (51 minutes in the placebo group vs 52 minutes in the control group).

ETA: Secondary outcomes also mentioned in this study noted similar Apgar scores and umbilical blood gas results in the control and placebo groups.

  • @jsl82 since last Valentines Day.  No issues at all.  I also bought new this time so it includes 2 years of maintenance (oil changes, tire rotations, etc.) for free.  I have about 16K miles on it so far.  I had a new Honda Pilot before this and I had a LOT of issues with it, which is why I traded it while it still had value.  It was a shame because it was beautiful, but not worth the headaches and I read a few people who said that they were driving on the highway and it just said “unsafe to drive” and shut off!  Nope, nope, nope!  So glad I traded it for the highlander.  I highly recommend using truecar.com to get dealers guaranteed prices and then negotiate with them online before you go in.  I saved a lot by doing this - around $7K off sticker.
  • @amys614 I am with you. I am going to be 13 weeks tomorrow and we sent out holiday cards with a "baby coming soon" photo... I am more anxious than I have ever been.
  • @ramblebee @amys614 I'm right there with you. Luckily I have a previously set appointment Thursday to give me some relief soon. The few late losses are wearing on me as well. I know they happen, but we've already told the world and its the holidays. I'm so completely devastated for the ones who have loss.

  • @catlady1215 - They're chalking it up to pregnancy related N/V. *shrug*
I was out of my Zofran for a few days because I was battling with my previous OB's office to have them send it in (called Monday, wasn't there when I ran out on Wednesday, I think it was. Called again Wednesday, started feeling/getting sick Thursday afternoon, and it still wasn't there Friday when I called the pharmacy, so I finally called and demanded they send the message to the only OB who's been able to do anything for me-- it was finally there Friday afternoon, but I was too sick to go get it, and then ended up in the ER Saturday).
I'm keeping my FX that if I still need the Zofran when I run out of my current script, my new OB can get it sent in without an issue.

@fantasticmrsfox - I was thinking about you the entire time I was getting IV fluids! You're battling HG and you're like superwoman in my eyes right now!

I made everyone (H, SS, and myself) make out lists for things they wanted for birthdays and for Christmas starting back in like June/July. And then we could all add to the lists as we thought of things. It worked out so much better than usual.
We just bought SS's Christmas presents Sunday night. All but one of them should arrive before Christmas thanks to Amazon Prime, but I feel accomplished because we usually get it done in-stores the weekend before the holiday, haha.
And of course, he added something to his Christmas list yesterday... I guess that'll be a birthday option for next year, because it's too late now!

  • @catlady1215 right there with you. I didn't have much for symptoms in 1st tri but apparently 12-13 weeks is when my body finally figured out it's KU and now we're in daily headaches. I explained it to my OB as well, basically the same thing not quite a migraine but definitely an inconvenience, and she just said hopefully that stops soon...sigh

  • @catlady1215 my OB said if I get headaches (knock on wood, haven't gotten) that I could drink a cup of coffee after my Tylenol. Apparently the caffeine in the coffee acts with the Tylenol similar to the caffeine/nsaid combo of Excedrin. May be worth a shot!
