I really "popped" this week and have had back pain that immobilized me a little bit, so I think pregnancy (at 25 weeks) finally became very real to my husband. He must have looked up a checklist of 'what to do before baby' because right before I had to leave to meet a friend on Saturday morning, DH asked if we could make up a will really quickly, and if I had thought about registering (wills take more than 15 min, I registered and sent him the links months ago). Precious.
Can't believe Christmas is less than 2 weeks away! It always seemed to take so long to arrive in childhood, and as an adult, Halloween to Christmas is just a vague blur.
Maybe this is petty and maybe I’m just bitter because my labor with P was so excruciatingly painful that I couldn’t even stand during contractions, but every time I see one of those videos of a woman in labor dancing with her husband/doctor, I roll my eyes. And while I’m sure the woman is in VERY early labor and not too uncomfortable yet (I went grocery shopping during the early part of my labor) it says NOWHERE in the video that that’s the case. Stop spreading misconceptions about how easy labor is.
@ShawnnaO yessss!!! I’ve seen these videos floating around lately! Like I went grocery shopping with my toddler when in labour. Nobody took a video and made it go viral they’re just ridiculous bahahah
Update...I got the Bumbleride and it's in perfect condition. It looks like they barely used. I used it with my two sons already and it's like pushing them on a cloud. Kind of excited.
So I had another US today. My cervix is now measuring at 1.9cm. I am SUPER stressed. I'm just waiting to get the steriod needle now. Ughhhh ladies.
Oh no! I am sorry to hear this. I am really glad they were monitoring you and you are able to get the steroids. The steroids will definitely help if you deliver early. I am praying for you. Remind me how far along you are?
Thanks everyone! I am 28weeks on Thursday. The OB my MW consulted with is pretty confident I won't deliver early because I have not had contractions, and I've had two full term births. But they want to be cautious. So I had one shot, and go back tomorrow for the other. But OMG...seriously. My leg is on fire. And I'm also on the vaginal progesterone, which I've never used. I go back next week for one last US. If things look the same, then I just stay on modified bedrest. After that the OB said that cervical length isn't a good determination of labour. So here's hoping and praying it doesn't get ridiculously short, because then I would have to be admitted.
@kalawa I am so glad there is positive news. I will be thinking of you. Please keep us updated. Also, remember that the cervix is dynamic and can lenthen just as much as it can shorten.
@DDRRT1982 Yes...very true. Within the 30min it took to do my US last week, the OB told me it changed various lengths. Ranging from 2-2.5cm. I honestly didn't know the cervix was THIS dynamic. But that's why she said after 31-32 weeks, cervical length isn't a good predictor anymore.
And thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. The well wishes and easing of my mind. It really helps!
@vflux33 I am choosing to just go with what happens, happens. Things will be ok. The doctor made me feel MUCH more optimistic. Apparently, "2.5 to 1.9 sounds scary, but in the medical field it isn't a big change" (stated from the OB). So I am following her orders and taking it as easy as possible. We've enlisted my SO's grandma to come stay with us until we travel back there for Christmas. So that's 3 weeks of help around when I need it.
@crossfitbabybump how can you tell when she's hiccuping? I can't decipher a kick from a punch, let alone hiccups. Maybe I'm just super out of tune with everything haha are they just more rhythmic?
@stlbuckeye132 - It feels like a light kick at first but then there's a rhythm to it and it's consistent for 5-10 mins at a time. Today she was hiccuping and then kicking in between hiccups and I could tell the difference then. (Of course I have a Chuck Norris wanna be living in my womb so her kicks are very easy to tell apart from hiccups!) She usually gets them after I eat
@stlbuckeye132 It feels like tiny little taps like if you tapped on someone’s window. And yes is repetitive for several minutes at a time in the same spot usually.
Got my second steriod shot today. This nurse was MUCH more skilled at it than my MW. She did it in my butt cheek and I didn't even feel it. She laughed when I said my MW gave it in my thigh. Saying my thigh is WAY to skinny for that.
Doc gave me the talk about gaining too much weight today I'm 27 weeks and up 27 pounds, this past month the weight just crept up on me. Worst time to tell me to watch it, I just want all the holiday treats!
@bravoandprosecco my OB scared me with the weight talk right before Thanksgiving. Broke my heart. But it made me very cautious about my intake. I'm on track to gain 40lb for the entire pregnancy
@kalawa here's hoping that cervix stays in check for you! So glad your team is on top of everything
Our french bulldog has started peeing on the furniture in the past month. We took him to the vet b/c we thought he had a UTI but he is fine. They said he may have trouble holding his urine in his sleep since he's getting older so we are thinking about putting him on meds for incontinence. However the first couple times he peed on the couch and he acted very embarrassed and ashamed. A couple days ago we took the cat to the vet and he seemed upset we took her away. We came home to find he peed on the couch in the spot he's peed twice before. This morning I discovered he peed in the guest bed (he doesn't even sleep there regularly) at some point in the past 2 weeks. Now we are starting to think it's behavioral and intentional. I think he's doing it when we upset him. I also wonder if me being pregnant has anything to do with it. Has anyone experienced this before and if so what did you do?

@kalawa I know midwives are technically nurses, but many of them weren't nurse-nurses for long (if at all!). my advice (as a nurse) is: always pick the nurse when you're getting stabbed with a needle, if you can help it!
@muggle621 my older cat started the same behavior a few years ago. I wish I knew a solution. It’s definitely behavioral and she does it when she’s mad at us. We’ve had to start locking her in the bathroom at night and when we leave the house so she can’t pee on the couch while we’re away. She tries to do it when we can’t see her. She’s ruined one mattress and 2 couches and I’m considering getting rid of her. DS is always climbing all over the couches and I hate having to constantly worry if he’s about to roll through some cat pee.
@BrittnieMariee Ugh, cat pee is so gross. Our cat has minor accidents but it's because she has a funny shaped vulva and week bladder(I can't believe my male vet says vulva to me all the time) so at least she has a medical problem. I don't know if you have had your cat checked for that, just a thought. Did your cat start that when you got pregnant the first time? I'm wondering if my pregnancy has anything to do with this behavior. Our dog is family so rehoming is not an option but I don't want to worry about replacing furniture when we have a newborn. We think he will love the baby since he loves every living creature including our cat who hates him but this craziness has to stop!

@muggle621 Ugh that sucks! This happened to me with my cat. I got my cat right before MH and I started dating in college. He is allergic to cats. Allergies are weird and they can get worse with time and can grow be especially bad with a particular animal. So after 4-5 years a doctor told us that my specific cat was giving H asthma and thus shortening his life span. At the time we were no longer living together because of doing the temporary long distance thing and I started spending more and more weekends at H's because it was so hard for him to be at my place with the cat and that's when her pooping and peeing on stuff to get back at me started. She was about 5 so it was definitely not an age thing. I felt so bad but I was very distraught over giving her away and I didn't want her to end up at some shelter. I eventually convinced my mom to take her around the time we got engaged, and she still has her today, but my mom leaves town a lot too to visit me and my sister/niece/nephew. Often these trips are on the long side. So now the cat does it to my mom whenever she leaves town--still, and it's been 10 years! No one has the heart to give her away. Because of our situation I felt unable to avoid doing the thing that was setting her off... if I had been able to though I would have. I hope you can figure this out! It seems weird to me that the pregnancy would set an animal off like that but not impossible depending on your dog's personality.
I am sorry to make you guys my dear diary, but I need to get some of this out and I don't exactly want to share all of it with my IRL friends. Anyways, I talked about my son's Dad not wanting him to get a job even though Caden wants one in the Tuesday thread. I found out last night from his Dad that it's because he pays child support and that he feels that is Caden's contribution to our household. Sigh! I am honestly shocked he has the aaudacity to think his measly, often late, child support payments are a contribution to this operation. This was after I wasted my time typing out emails explaining that the job is not about the money, but about work ethic and responsibility. It wouldn't be on school days and wouldn't interefer with his weekends if he didn't want it to. It's just a few hours a weekend, if Caden chooses, because Caden basically does nothing around here and doesn't deserve an allowance from us. I am so disheartened that after this many years I am actually having to address this crap. I submitted a request to close our child support case, so hopefully the toxic dialogue would stop. I am sure this behavior from his dad is about something else, but it shouldn't matter. He should never expose Caden to such distorted facts and drama.
