Re: December Baby Name Thread

  • @charlestonchew there is also a Luna at my sons daycare. It's the daughter of the music teacher at the associated school.

  • I really like the name Luna. I associate it with Harry Potter too. I just would hate for the kid to get the nickname “Looney” like in HP, since it’s such a nice name.
  • @Ceridwen77 I associate it with harry potter as well but I'm wondering if the next generation will know it as well as us? I've thought about that but I've decided kids are mean and if they want to make fun of someone they will find a way.

    It seems like the consensus is it doesn't sound too off the wall for an adult so that makes me feel better.
  • charlestonchew I have close to 600 students because I am the art teacher.  One is a fifth grader, the other is a 6th grdaer.
  • Sorry for lack of tags, mobile is annoying me this morning. ...

    I like Luna, and agree a name like cinnamon is hard to take seriously, but not Luna.

    In terms of popular names, i think there is a difference between popular classic, solid names versus popular trendy, time-stamped names. Olivia and Eleanor are super popular but solid, and timeless, IMO.
  • Meh I’ve found that having your name made fun of as a child doesn’t really matter as an adult. My first name is Ivy and I HATED it as a kid. I went as far as to tell people I had a different name when I would meet new people. Now I enjoy having a less than common name, and I’ve learned some great comebacks over the years for the oh so original poison ivy jokes that inevitably happen when in public. /eyeroll

    When I think of an older woman named Luna I still see a grown woman to be respected. I definitely side eye names like Scout for a girl but actual names, not so much. It’s an actual name though, so it does have that going for it.
  • @holli0801
     I love the name fionna! That's pretty. Goes well with Silas too :)

    @charlestonchew
    I wouldn't worry about the future career. Lol the name doesn't determine the occupation and unique names are nothing new. Heck the first OB I saw to confirm my pregnancy had a first name of Ocean! His name didn't prevent him from going to med school. That's a lot more unique than Luna! :P

    @k5678
    I like Nora better.

    @justsuzie
    Glad to see you are back! :dizzy:

    Oh and apparently I can't tag more than 2 ppls in a comment :/
  • @ivyvines6 I love your name! Ivy is a name I really wanted but SO shot it down :'(
  • Pregnant with identical twin girls, and we’re having a tough time deciding on the second twin’s name. I love Vivian and Charlotte, but Charlotte is so popular here in MN and across the country really, I just can’t do it. Having an identical sister AND share the same name as your classmates? I don’t think I can do that to her, she needs her own identity. What are your thoughts on the following:

    Vivian and Greta
    Vivian and Rose
    Vivian and Margaret
  • @melissarose1087 I think Rose is beautiful
  • ivyvines6  I agree....kids will find any reason to tease.  I had a relatively normal name, Suzie, and kids called me sewage..... So, yah, I don't think a name will really impact that unless it's really unfortunate like Nevaeh.
  • I need some middle name help.

    We are are team green but have decided to go with the name Memphis regardless of gender. (We like less common names that’s end in S, DS is named Titus Jackson)

    here are a few we like:

    Girl
    Memphis Jean (family name)
    Memphis Mae
    Memphis Willow

    Boy
    Memphis Norman (family name)
    Memphis Odin

    I am totally up to hear more options or your opinions on these! Thanks.
  • @heelsidehero After the side eye I had to hear how my MIL knew a lady named Cora that she didn't like..*insert eye roll here*
  • @melissarose1087 I love Rose with Vivian!
  • @mmb4532 I love the name Cora. I don't think names should be of the list based on other people with the same name existing. I'm sure she knows people named Michael or Mary she doesn't like too, they're just more common.

    Side note: my association with Cora is a restaurant in Montreal called Chez Cora. The jingle for it goes, "cora, cora, you're my sunshine...cora, cora breakfast and lunchtime".
  • @nanifrog I love it too! I'm a teacher so it's SO hard to pick out names because certain names I'll associate with students. I've never had a Cora and I just think it's a beautiful name. My MIL may just have to get over it if it's a girl!

    And she will. My MIL said "oh well that's different" when we told her our sons name would be Henrik. Now she doesn't bat an eye at his name (or maybe she does still find it "different" but hasn't made a comment since). I told my husband today he can tell his mom our name for this baby because I don't wNt yo hear her response. She also had a negative reaction to a potential name for this baby.

  • We're all set on a boy name, but we can't agree on a girl name. With our DD, we were team green, and couldn't agree on a boy name, but had the girl name down pat.

    We're finding out with this one, but I would really like to at least have an idea of what names we like for a girl. My H HATES the girl name that I'm obsessed with - Harriet Marie - but won't give any other options that he likes besides Isabella, which I'm not a fan of. It's one of the top names here and our DD has a very old school name that people don't hear much, so I'd like to stay in that area. Names are tough, man.

    We are completely stumped on names this time. We like uncommon, but not odd names, usually English names are our favorites. This is our 4th baby, 3rd boy. We have Anniston, Graham, and Korben, looking for a name to go with those.

    @SaVy_05 suggesting Holden, Cedar, Sawyer, Henry, Oliver, Jasper, Arlo, Rowan, Atticus, Atlas, Archer. ETA Malcolm
  • @SaVy_05 We have similar taste in names, I think. Some on our list:
    Asher
    Lachlan
    Ellis
    Ramsey
    Maco

  • @SaVy_05 We threw around Rhys and Jamison, just to add to your list :)
  • What is the site that will give you names similar in style to a name you type in?  I'm trying to get ideas.

  • @holli0801 true! And thanks! Iris is definitely our top girl name. It wasn't mentioned first round of talking about names and we both just said yes!
    @Ceridwen77 I really like Natalia. It's super cute and you could always just use Talia as nn if you want! (Or feel free to steal Iris, lol!)
    @kpc914 I actually like Winston a lot!
  • We’re having a tougher time this round for sure! Baby 2 is a boy and I think we’re narrowing in on: Bowie (Bowen?), Simon, Julian or Iver. Middle name is Scott. Big bro is Remy. Ugh I am torn!

  • If this LO is a boy, I think we are going with Jackson Nicholas.  I'm a little nervous though.  My cousin's name is Nicholas and his son is Jaxsen.  We don't live close them and I've never met their children.  Is it a bad idea?  Am I going to offend people?

    Nicholas is my grandfather's name and he's an amazing man!  I don't have many men in my life who have been a great example of a gentleman and kind spirit, but he does!  Jackson is a name I've loved for a long time.  I debated with it's popularity, but in the end figured it's a good, classic name.  I think... I ran the name past DS this morning.  I said, "If baby is a boy, how about the name Jackson?"  He said, "No!  Jacks!"  :neutral:
