@evreka what medication are they giving you and why? I know standard practice in Canada is to not medicate or stop labour after 34 weeks as babies are typically okay at that point. Just wondering why they are still trying to stop your labor at 36 weeks??
@balletnerd We found out I am good at hiding baby! She's is measuring normal and there is enough fluid. Looks to be 7lbs +/- a pound. Since DD was 7lbs (at 12 days past due), we're right on track!
@failuretofly have been given turbutaline. They say they would like to wait till I am 37 weeks as they feel that 36 weeks is still to early for her arrival. Its been difficult for comunicating due to the language barrier but we are all managing. Anyho we still in hospital and we both doing okay. Altho I'm getting frustrated just laying in bed and not been able to do anything. Counting down days till I meet my Angel.
Ladies who have had a stretch and sweep: was it successful? If so, when did you begin having contractions/your water break? I ask because with DD, my sweep technically was not successful, since my water broke over 48 hours later (although I dilated slightly during that time).
@Skcobb i just had my sweep yesterday, and I’ve been having intense contractions on and off since. Although they’ve subsided quite a bit this morning, but I’m hoping they pick back up once we get out and about today.
I'm due Dec. 21 and my OB hasn't mentioned a sweep yet (I'm currently dilated 1 cm and effaced 80%). Is this a common thing to request and, if so, should I ask for it at my next appointment (when I'll be 39 weeks)?
@hellothere47 my doctor doesn’t even mention a sweep until 39 weeks. They offer it at that point, but it’s totally up to the patient to decide. They pretty much ask if you want a sweep done in the same way they ask if you want your cervix checked. IMO, do some research and see if it’s something you want. If so, request it at 39 weeks if it’s not offered outright.
@hellothere47 Same experience as @Skcobb. I went in yesterday (39+5) and requested to be checked for dilation. My ob was the one who was like, "While I'm checking we can do a membrane sweep, or strip your membranes, and that's supposed to release chemicals that might soften things." I just asked if it was likely to break my water (I had read on a website the rate was like 10%) and she said she had never broken water before from doing it.
