Re: FTM Check-In 11/7

  • Noticed this wasn't started yet. Where are all our FTMs today?

Things are going good. Had a stat u/s today that showed baby is growing on track and has a HB of ~150 bpm. Thankful for that!
No new symptoms, unless you count the crick in my neck that started yesterday. It's right over my carotid, which is fun. I got a prescription for promethazine to help with nausea/vomiting. It's not what I expected, but I know it's the first choice for some doctors due to it's long history of being useful. Just waiting to pick that up tomorrow and hopefully have some relief!
Had my first appointment today, next one will be in two weeks.

GTKY: I'm torn. Part of me really feels like it's a boy, and then at other times, I feel that it's a girl. I usually end up referring to it as a girl, though.

  • How are things going?
Things age going pretty easy. MH is super supportive and loving. Life is really good right now. I just wish my first US wasn't so fat away. The 20th was the soonest I could get in.

    Any new symptoms?
Cold, I'm freezing all of the time. I'm also a little more irritable then I am normally.

    Appointments upcoming/recent?
    Noooo  the 20th....

    Rants/Raves?
Rave - I really love my DH.

    Questions for FTM, or STM+?
Labor?!?! Has anyone researched? I'm completely freaked out. I would love any encouragement other then "your body was made for this" I've read that over and over again but it's not helping to ease my anxiety.

GTKY: Do you have any "feelings" or "momtuition" on what the sex of your baby (or babies) is?
love this!  I totally think I'm having a boy. According to old wives tales I'm chickety checking all of them. I'm curiousto see what everyone else thinks
  • @galactickates - What are you having anxiety over in particular when it comes to labour?

  • @izza2 -   I have been reading about epidurals and spinal headaches. I'm scared something might happen to the baby,  something might happen to me.  What if I can't get an epidural in time?  what is birth without one going to feel like? Should I try to do it without one?  But I always hear to just go for the epidural. I have no idea what I'm doing.  I'm just scared and nervous over all.
  • @doxiemoxie212 - I'm dying laughing at your dream! I've had some weird dreams in my time, but that is absolutely hilarous!

  • @doxiemoxie212 I remember you posting this, I started to watch it and got interrupted by DH getting home and never went back to it. I believe I saved it in a YouTube playlist I started for pregnancy but if I didn't thank you for re-posting so i can easily add it. I will definitely finish watching it. I started with the Wikipedia page for Labor and Delivery which started the spiral of clicking links and reading articles. I will try to stay calm until i can finish watching those videos.
  • @Amphibious22 I have been feeling SO overwhelmed about all the "stuff" but when I signed up (like actually gave my email to) for Lucie's List, they sent me a link to their google doc breakdown of items, which is here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IugsUXAnYqBtntPL2L-3xfc7IdKE_O3SAk0rK8UgmNE/edit#gid=374724590

What I did is, I saved the list to my own google drive, then added a column in between price and terms of use for budget. I didn't delete anything off the list, but as I went through each recommendation, I highlighted the one from each category I liked best, and added the price for ONLY that one in the new budget column I added. At the bottom of the budget column, I've made it all add up (if you're not excel savvy, it's just =sum(  ) and then in the parentheses put the boxes you want to add up) so I know my total budget for the things I want. For whatever reason, for me, this REALLY made it seem less overwhelming.

I've also found MBeans (a store out of boston???) has GREAT youtube videos showing how products work, and after watching them I feel so much more armed to go into a store and really just test out 1-2 things for each category to confirm I like what I think I like.
  • @Amphibious22 - our appointments are on the same day! I feel your pain!!! it feels like its so far away. I keep trying to tell myself that it will be good because LO will be bigger by then. It only helps the impatience 5%. On the baby list stuff I am going to get on pinterest and see if there is a baby registry list of items to look for. What is helping me though is start a registry ANYWHERE or multiple registries and as the product spotlights or questions arise I add it to a registry so I have it there and don't forget it. We still have a ton of time to shop or add things so starting now might take some of the stress out of it? I am not buying anything until after we find out we are having a boy or a girl. I still add the items I want but will change the colors based on the results. At least the research part will be done at that point.
  • @doxiemoxie212 thanks for that link! I'm not a huge planner or list maker but I think I need to start in order to feel prepared. I also struggled because I picked out a few things that I liked, went home to research them, and a lot of them had mediocre reviews, which made me feel like I was back at square one/a terrible mom for picking sub par things.

  • @galactickates yay for appointment twins! And yeah I'm just happy it's finally less than 2 weeks away. And that's a good idea too. I've already kind of started some wishlist/registries, but for some reason browsing online is way less stressful than browsing in person. I'm definitely with you though on not actually buying anything until I know the sex.

  • @Amphibious22 that's why I don't like shopping in person, honestly. I really need to narrow things down with reviews or I feel like I personally always end up with things that if I'd just read the reviews I'd know were bad/impractical/poorly made/etc lol. But for baby stuff I know I'll need to eventually go see it in person to see if I actually like it, so pre-whittling seems more manageable for me. I'm sure super savvy in-person shoppers have better tricks that work for them, though. I just don't have the patience! lol
  • How are things going?
So far, so good. I don't feel particularly symptomatic so that does always make me a little concerned. I mainly get the occasional cramping in my lower abdomen or back.

    Any new symptoms?
    None that come to mind.

    Appointments upcoming/recent?
Ultrasound tomorrow! I'm sooo nervous and excited. I hate that I'm excited because I don't want to tempt fate. I should be around 10 weeks.

    Rants/Raves?
It rained yesterday and I ended up rear-ending someone as my car slid into them when trying to brake. Feels bad; it was such a nasty jolt but luckily I only have bruised knees. I'm worried about bub - but fortunately the OB/GYN doctor on call managed to get back to me within 5 minutes of me leaving a message. She told me that first trimester is the least concern in an incident like that as the baby is protected by the pelvic bones and muscles. She really didn't think I had much reason to worry. Ugh, tomorrow can't come soon enough!

    Questions for FTM, or STM+?
Nothing comes to mind. I'm enjoying reading the highlighted product questions thread for STM's!

GTKY: Do you have any "feelings" or "momtuition" on what the sex of your baby (or babies) is?
Sometimes I feel like I do, but then other days it flips to the other gender. I even ventured to ask the ultrasound tech which side I implanted on (they say 97% on the right is a boy and 97% on the left is a girl) and she told me it was right in the middle! We were planning on being Team Green and I guess baby is on board with that, haha!

  • @silvergreen - that's so interesting!  I'm going to remember that when I go for my US
  • @silvergreen So sorry about your car accident! I'm glad you're okay. How's the car???

@Amphibious22 It took me forever to figure out that BBB is Buy Buy Baby and not Bed Bath & Beyond...I need to wrap my head around this and start researching the baby stuff!!

@doxiemoxie212 Keep us posted on your Mat21 results (if you're comfortable doing so). I'm not having mine drawn until 12/7. Also, your baby reveal sounds adorbs - whichever one you do. Agreed, smoke bombs in Manhattan seem like a bad idea.

@galactickates I'm with you on labor. I'd always planned to have a scheduled C-section (UO, I know...), but now that it is twins, my OB doesn't think I'll last to 38 weeks (which is when you can schedule the C), so now I'm going back to all the books I read and re-reading the sections on labor!

@izza2 So exciting that you had your ultrasound!! :) FX the promethazine helps with your nausea.

How are things going? Going good. Counting down the days to vacation next week. Can't wait to chill by the pool and get spa treatments.

Any new symptoms? I'm officially hungry all the time. I must eat at least two apples everyday in addition to regular meals, snacks. Yikes! Also, still soooooooooo tired. I had to be up until 10 last night for an event and feel like I'm going to fall over asleep today.

Appointments upcoming/recent? Nothing coming up until 11/21 - another US.

Rants/Raves? Rant: I'm freakin' exhausted, but have another junior league event tonight. I seriously want to call in sick, but then I'd be leaving all these people in a tough situation and I just can't do it. Rave: I'm not working out tomorrow morning, so I can sleep in! (God, my life revolves around sleep right now.)

Questions for FTM, or STM+? Nothing right now.

GTKY: Do you have any "feelings" or "momtuition" on what the sex of your baby (or babies) is?
I don't really have any idea, but I keep calling the one on the right "him". However, I think that's because he's situated himself right under my bladder. Every time I have to pee, he gets irritated and I get little stabby cramps. Thus, since he's causing me pain, he's a "he."

  • How are things going?
So far so good. Dealing with a little bit of pain due to a cyst, but overall I feel good.

    Any new symptoms?
Nothing new. Just very tired and I have trouble sleeping past 3am.

    Appointments upcoming/recent?
Next one is an educational sesh with doc on 11/29. Not sure when he will want me in for another ultrasound and tests. Guess I will find out in a few weeks!

    Rants/Raves?
I am slogging through data analysis for my degree program and trying to stay on track has been so difficult because I am so tired. I just need a tiny bit more energy to get an hour or two of school work after regular work. Hoping that comes back soon.

    Questions for FTM, or STM+?
    Not at the moment.

GTKY: Do you have any "feelings" or "momtuition" on what the sex of your baby (or babies) is?
No, not really. DH does not want to find out at all. I am on the fence. He thinks it is the greatest surprise and of course we will be thrilled either way. I can go along with that.
  • @laceybee522 where are you going on vacay? I assume somewhere warm given the pool? I'm jelly.
  • @doxiemoxie212 We're going to a cool resort in Phoenix. I can lay by the pool and he can go golfing. Our room is a little "casita" where we have a patio and an outdoor fireplace - so excited! We were  planning a trip to Iceland when I found out I was pregnant and decided to put that on hold until I can enjoy the hot springs.

If anyone is in the Phoenix area and has any dinner suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

  • @LaceyBee522 I lived in Scottsdale for 6 years.  What kinds of places do you like to eat at?  I could probably give you some suggestions.  :)
  • @LaceyBee522 Bumper is completely bent in and cracked in places, and the grill is also cracked. :s As long as bub is okay, I think I'll take the damage!

  • My favorite Mexican place in Phx is Arribas, my fave sports bar is Zipps - best wings, I dream about the Monicco foccia. I miss Kona Grill a lot but mostly the saki bombs which doesn't really help.  There are tons of great spots depending on what kind of mood you're in.  I always preferred casual spots when I lived there though. It feels like a lifw time ago. I was trying to think about my favorite places but they all involved heavy drinking nights.
  • How are things going?
Good! Other than exhausted and nauseous. I’m excited and feeling good.

    Any new symptoms?
Random pain on the left side of my left breast. I have itty bitty titties so growing pains are soooo weird.

    Appointments upcoming/recent?
First appt is still fooooreeeveeer away. Week of Nov 27.

    Rants/Raves?
I just want to eat all the meat. Saucy BBQ sandwich, juicy burger, scrumptious pork taco. OMG.
But cant stand sweets right now.

    Questions for FTM, or STM+?
    Not yet :)

GTKY: Do you have any "feelings" or "momtuition" on what the sex of your baby (or babies) is?
No clue! And I go back and forth about wanting a girl or a boy.

  • @LaceyBee522 my husband was born and raised in Phoenix and we go a lot to visit his parents. Honestly, I feel like Phoenix has the best food scene of any city I've ever been to. His favorite spots are the parlor for pizza, taco guild for super yummy tacos, North which is another Italian place, and Hillstone which is a steak house and sushi bar (if you don't mind watching ppl eat sushi). Pretty much all of those places are in Central Phoenix cause that's where he's from, but if you're going to be somewhere else, he can have other suggestions for different areas.

  • @amphibious22 I feel you on the overwhelming baby stuff!  I haven't even begun to look into that.  I haven't even opened the products thread because it's just so intimidating.  I think I'll just procrastinate and hope everything comes together in the end.

@silvergreenSorry to hear about the accident, as if we need more to worry about!  Glad the doc isn't worried though

How are things going? Pretty good.  My nausea is lessening and my appetite is coming back.  Of course this makes me worried that something is wrong though.  I hope I don't feel like this through the whole pregnancy.

Any new symptoms? Nothing new, more like my current symptoms are lessening.  I'm still waking up at night to pee though.  And I'm getting more and more tired.

Appointments upcoming/recent? Next ultrasound is on the 21st to confirm growth.  I feel like I'll feel better after this appointment, but that's what I thought with my last appointment and the relief only lasted a couple days.

Rants/Raves? After my ultrasound on the 21st I'm planning to start telling people I'm pregnant, which I'm really excited to do.  I don't like keeping secrets like this.

Questions for FTM, or STM+? Did anyone lose weight during the first trimester?  How long until you started gaining it back?

GTKY: Do you have any "feelings" or "momtuition" on what the sex of your baby (or babies) is?  Nope not at all.  I've been referring to it as a "he" in my head but for no reason.  MH thinks a boy because there are so many boys in his family.  I still don't really even feel pregnant so I don't think any momtuition has kicked in yet.

  • @LaceyBee522 I'll second @Amphibious22 and say I absolutely love Phoenix. My husband lived there while we were dating long distance, and I ate better there than I did at home in NYC! Plus, the weather in winter cannot be beat. For casual spots, Pizzeria Bianco is incredible (Martha Stewart's fave) and Matt's Big Breakfast and Cornish Pasty (especially if your husband plans to drink) are a lot of fun.

@doxiemoxie212 You are so on top of life with gear selection and gender reveal plans... I'm intimidated but also grateful you're out there blazing the trail for us!

How are things going? Just fine. I've had almost no symptoms and, despite spending 5 minutes each morning trying to determine whether my boobs are any bigger, have seen very little physical change.

Any new symptoms? Nope. Definitely more tired recently, but the time change makes it hard to know what that should be blamed on!

Appointments upcoming/recent? My first prenatal appointment is in a few hours. Eeeeek. I'm hoping there's an ultrasound and have been kinda assuming there will be, but just realized this week I don't know that for sure.

Rants/Raves? We see both of our parents at an out of town football game this weekend and it'll be the first time the fam's together since the news :)

Questions for FTM, or STM+? Did anyone feel awkward with your significant other in the room with you for that first prenatal appointment? I've been going to the doctor alone for a couple decades now and it's going to be weird, I think, to have him there. Especially if they do any peeking at things from "down there." Which they must, right?

GTKY: Do you have any "feelings" or "momtuition" on what the sex of your baby (or babies) is?  My husband and his father are both convinced the baby's a girl, and I've been playing along and saying the same. And yet, the times I feel most attached to this baby, the most wowed by what's happening in our lives, are when I think of it as a future little boy. So I don't know!

  • @RatParade I lost about 5lbs in the first trimester in both of my prior pregnancies. It all came back by mid/late second trimester.

@Amphibious22 I distinctly remember that feeling of being overwhelmed the first time DH and I went into a baby store after our bfp. We were the first of our friends to have kids too. I just sorta winged it with my registry. The only advice I can really give is look at the amount of floor space things take up. I really wanted a swing that plugged into the wall not battery powered and the one I got is HUGE. It took up sooo much space in our little living room at the time and my first hated it.

  • @galactickates I was always kind of freaked out by labor. To the point to up until the last couple years I didn't want my own kids because of it. I would suggest the Business of Being Born (movie) and Ina May's Guide to Childbirth (book) if you haven't looked into those already. I have also looked into the Bradley Method. I now feel a bit more confident and I'm in the "I'm going to try laboring with out epidural but have it as an option if I want/need it later on." Also, I have read that a lot of women get the epidural and it helps with contractions but it has worn off by the time they are pushing anyway. Sorry for the novel  :D

@doxiemoxie212 your kitten dream is hilarious! Also thank you for the google doc link! It is going to be so helpful but it also kind of scared the isht out of MH.

@Amphibious22 I would try not to stress about things like bouncers or things they wont need right away. You can register for one and if someone buys it you can always exchange it. I'm focusing our registry on things that we will definitely need right away and then in about 6 months it will be Christmas again and I'm sure the Grandparents will want to buy stuff for them.

@silvergreen sorry about your accident but I'm glad to hear you and bub are ok! GL at your u/s today!

@LaceyBee522 I am hungry all the time too! I read somewhere that you don't really need more calories in 1st tri but I'm like how is that possible when I have been so ravenous!

@ramblebee I have heard that a little cyst forms after an egg is released and it is there after implantation. I keep having some pains on my right side and I think it's because I ovulated on my right.

@lovetakesworkman I am the same way with sweets right now. I am usually all about the sugar. Normally our leftover Halloween candy would have been gone by now but we still have a whole bag.

@RatParade I was thinking I was going to lose a little in 1st tri because of my cutting out of wine and beer calories but I think I have just replaced them with cheese sticks and chips.

@emiliadkay I haven't had much for symptoms either. And I have my first appointment today too. And I'm wondering if it will be awkward with MH there. Are we twins? But I called the nurses line yesterday and she told me that at 8 wks an u/s is the only way to see if there is a heartbeat, so they will be doing one. She also said that the rest of the appointment will be more informational/Q&A and blood work. I'm not sure if they will need to go down there.

    How are things going?
Things are going well. The cat walked across my boobs this morning and his little paws were like daggers. He almost got thrown across the room.

Any new symptoms? nothing new really. A bit of nausea in the afternoons, sore boobs, and always hungry. And a vegetable aversion. Idk how you vegetarians are surviving.

Appointments upcoming/recent? this afternoon! Can't wait!

    Rants/Raves? rave-see above

Questions for FTM, or STM+? did you or are you planning on doing something for a reveal to your coworkers? I was just thinking of bringing in treats and saying "My mommy doesn't want to be the only one with a belly" but MH thinks they don't really need to know. I think it would avoid the awkward "is she pregnant" kind of talk when I start to show. Also this is aside from telling my boss. I will tell her first in a private meeting.

GTKY: Do you have any "feelings" or "momtuition" on what the sex of your baby (or babies) is? I feel like it is a boy based on the wives tales but I want it to be a girl lol. Also were toying with the idea of being team green.

Any new symptoms? More tugging sensations than before. And nausea made a return this week.

    Appointments upcoming/recent? Monday! I'll be 8+4 then.

Rants/Raves? I'm feeling really positive this time! Its also another busy month at work, but I'm really losing motivation. So much to do before Thanksgiving!

Questions for FTM, or STM+? Nope

GTKY: Do you have any "feelings" or "momtuition" on what the sex of your baby (or babies) is?
I didn't have any if this with my previous pregnancies, but I strongly feel like there's a boy. I have a boy name that just keeps sticking in my head. I don't even particularly like the name, but it just feels like it won't go away in my head. And I'm convinced it's twins since day one, especially after seeing my early HCG levels. They also run in my mom's side of the family. We'll know soon enough!

  • @emiliadkay It was a little weird having MH in the room, but he stood by my head and faced the screen.  It would have been weirder if he was watching what the dr was doing haha.  But the ultrasound was actually really quick and I was sitting up and covered within like 5 minutes.  Afterwards I had to fill out a ton of paperwork and he didn't stay for that because he had to go back to work.  Despite the awkwardness, it was really great having him there!

  • @emiliadkay Oh, no I was all about DH being there. I was like, get up in there. See what I go through. How close to my vagina can you be? Want to sit in that chair RIGHT THERE?? lol

Seriously, his only comment after was, "Why do they put that stupid paper sheet on your lap when they're about to just go all up in your vag? Like what's the point?" And I was like, "Well you get the paper sheet when they look at your balls, right?" NOPE! Turns out it's ladies only for the paper sheet.
  • @doxiemoxie212 I lol'd at "you get the paper sheet when they look at your balls" and now I'm mad that they don't have a stupid paper sheet! This is sexist. Like its ok for a man to just sit there with their junk hanging out but a woman must be covered? Also I can hide most of my bits by just closing my legs. Theirs would just be all out there.

  • @krashke yep, definitely twins. My husband and I are asking ourselves the exact same question re: whether we want to be team green for the long haul. Maybe? And more importantly, how did your appointment go?

Thank you all for your input on my DH-in-the-room issues. :) He ended up seated right behind the doctor with a direct view of eeeevrrything, but I just clung to my paper sheet and said a silent thank you for the small things.
  • @emiliadkay My appointment went well! How about yours? Aside from YH's full on view lol MH was just seated in the chair off to the side but he said he couldn't see anything. Plus I joked that he was there when we made the baby so he's seen it all.

We had friends recently that were team green and she said she liked it because A) it's like the one thing to have as a surprise when everyone knows your pregnant and possibly knows the name and B ) because the anticipation of finding out what baby was would help her get through the final stages of labor. Also I told MH that he could announce to anyone that was in the waiting room what the sex is.

I might have the nurse write it down and put it in an envelope but not put it in my charts so that if we cave and need to know we can look but so that no one would ruin it for us if it was in the chart.
