I want a healthy habits check in thread too! I’ve definitely been guilty of using pregnancy as an excuse to slack on workouts when I feel good enough to at least take a walk or do some yoga. DH is usually a big motivator for me but pretty sure he would prefer me to be laying in bed for the next 6 months because he’s a worrier.
My OB told me I can keep doing whatever I was doing, just to be careful with activities where I can fall, especially as the bump gets bigger and your balance changes. Since I found out I was pregnant, I've only been doing yoga and hiking. I stopped my spin class but would like to resume after the first trimester. Unfortunately, my workouts have been sporadic the past year although I used to workout 4 to 5 days a week before that. I don't have a heart rate monitor because I've never used one. I think one would be beneficial for pregnancy but I dont think I would ever use it again. I would like a fit mom Friday thread for encouragement and inspiration.
@suchaglencoco I'm not really sure yet. Mostly taking it one day at a time. They told me to run on treadmills or tracks this time and I don't have easy access to a track so I'm on treadmill mostly. I HATE it. I get their purpose but I just like being outside. My last baby was due in Oct so I think I pushed myself harder because the weather was so nice when I probably should've been cutting back (May/June). My injury mostly came after baby but I had some hints at it before that I blamed on pregnancy and I think I pushed too hard/soon going back after birth. But I've had three rounds of super expensive injections and multiple rounds of physical therapy so I'm being extremely overly cautious now.
@molly1108-2 I do agree that with the Internet and social media the way it is these days, we do spend a lot more time worrying about others and comparing ourselves to others in negative ways. We should definitely be using others as inspiration, but not necessarily goals for ourselves.
@dee_ao I'm sorry about the zapped energy. I think the time is passing a little faster now that I'm working out again.
Are we thinking Friday for check in day? I have an awful memory and don't know what days we have a lot of threads starting and what days are bare. Also, anyone feel free to start it up on Fridays! Bad memory also leads me to forget what day it is, ha. Are we leaning towards "healthy check-in, workout addition"? Just in case later we add in a healthy check-in for eating habits. Although, that one I probably wouldn't comment on because I love donuts too much right now. Or I could be over thinking all of this right now due to lack of sleep.
Healthy check in sounds good to me. Eating will always be a struggle in pregnancy but a place to try to be accountable/supportive of making some sort of effort at healthy eating is nice to have! Friday sounds good too. The beginning of the week is front loaded with check ins.
After DD was born, we got into walking/ running. We ran 2 5ks, and one 10k. (It was over a year after the 10k that I started running again. lol. And by run, I mean barely faster than a speed walk. I'm slow.)
Last winter/spring I got back into walking/working out. But, around July when heavy wedding season picked up, I stopped. Hoping to get back into at least a weekly walk.

I have a hard time getting to 150 right now because i have been out of the game for 3 weeks and am just soooooo exhausted from pregnancy nausea. But, i took no offense from @suchaglencoco's comments. She was just saying that for her to feel like shes getting a workout she needs to hit a heartrate above 150. Me personally, i cannot imagine restricting myself to 20lb weights. Everyone is different, but 20lbs is not a workout to me when im used to lifting more than 100lbs on a regular basis. Everyone is different, hence why they usually say you can continue to do what you did pre pregnancy. Maybe these restrictions are meant for women who are starting to exercise once already pregnant? Ill talk to my OB, but a full grocery bag can weigh more than 20 lbs. So that seems likr an absurd restriction to me. Im all for a friday healthy habits, workout edition check in!
A healthy habits or whatever thread sounds good. I was just starting to get back into running when I found out ideas pregnant then got freaked out and stopped. Mainly walking at the moment but want to start doing a bit more because ideally I want a natural birth (assuming all goes well) and being fit and healthy is the best way to achieve this.
Your doctors sound awesome! Mine said doing whatever I did before was fine (yay!), but also keep the heart rate below 140 (boo!). I'm not sure where that leaves me in regards to workouts as I'm not sure what my norm is, but I guess I'll see. I have to dig up my heart rate monitor.
You are all amazing! You're motivating me to make sure I exercise.
I was very, very inactive when I started my full time job when DD1 was 18 months. When I was pregnant with DD2, I had spd. It's basically when your hips start to open early. Not dangerous for baby, but beyond belief painful. I walked with a cane if I was even able to walk. OB said it's almost sure to happen again but I might be able to keep it from being quite so bad by exercising.
Also, this past January I decided it was time to stop making excuses and be more fit. We joined a gym and I've been going 1 to 2 times a week since January. I lost about 10 pounds and was feeling better. Definitely not teaching my heart rate or joining America ninja warrior, but healthier.
I planned to be committed to a water aerobics class, but today I went to a yoga class that was great physically and mentally. I hope I can make it to this one again. The focus was on gratitude and I ended the class feeling really grateful and not as grumpy as I've been lately.
@maplemom18 of my four pregnancies, only one time did my doctor give me the 140 restriction. Not for any reason related to my health or exercise but related to him being relatively old school about it. I asked about it for the two after that (miscarriage in Jan and currently) and they said not to worry about HR as long as it was activity I was used to (but I also assumed if I managed to get my HR to like 170 or more, that would be a bad idea just knowing how hard I have to exert myself to do that). And that's all within the same OB practice which is annoying!
@mileswithmyles I miss running. I was a 20-30 mile/week runner before ttc and the losses. The feeling after you finish and are in your cool down walk cannot compare to any other workout.
My doctor said she has many marathon runners as patients and they go on as far as they can into their pregnancy until it gets uncomfortable. Ugh....I was on pelvic rest up until 12 weeks (2 days ago)....I started "trying" to workout again....and then the spotting resumed. Now I am paranoid and doctor has me back on pelvic rest. I am going to try swimming in hopes that it's the impact with my cervix and vaginal walls that causes the spotting. I''m also off progesterone in 2 weeks which I also believe is making my lady parts very raw and irritated which may also add to the spotting.
But way to go all you mamas that are continuing your healthy workouts.
@justsuzie that high is like nothing else! I will want to train for a half again after this baby. I don’t know if another full is in the cards for me for a while. The training schedule is hard and I think I need to wait until my kids are older to do another one.

Thank you. Good to hear! Maybe I'll monitor it, but not get crazy...
