@doxiemoxie212 I agree that people with racist, sexist or homophobic, etc. opinions should be made to feel embarrassed to share their hurtful thoughts that perpetuates that thinking. This is the whole reason that people came out of the woodwork after He Who Shall Not Be Named got elected.

I want to see that lady argue with a school that her precious offspring need female teachers not male teacher and see how that flies. Or have her kid in a daycare and see what happens if they dared to hire a guy. Fyi my H is waaayyy better with babies than me. He's the baby whisperer. If we ever gktfu guess who is gonna teach me what to do lmao.

I have to chime in more but I don't want to stir the pot over there so I'm just going to share here...why would you validate someones opinions that are prejudice by having an open discussion or debate. I'm sorry you're just wrong and I am not going to give you the benefit of the doubt. We're not talking about why someone likes dogs or cats better, we're talking about racism or sexism. You are not entitled to your opinion. 

I gotta stop but I can't.

I'm really tempted to chime in that statistically *if* (god forbid it would never happen) her kids were sexually abused, 9 times out of 10 it will be by a family member or close family friend so her logic is seriously flawed. Having taken many child development and social work classes in college I learned the best preventative is actually to talk to your kids about "secrets" vs "surprises" and their right to say no. Clearly that whole UO thread struck a nerve with me.

holy cow, i was lurking the introductions and definitely missed the random thread.  That was crazy.  Also, in my ignorance when i was first starting i thought i had a CP, not b/c of symptoms but from an indent line--i definitely did not and admitted that and apologized to my friend that i reached out to who has **TW had multiple losses end TW** when i realized my mistake.  It's just different.  

I stop lurking BMB usually once i know it's not possible for me to join, so i'll probably stop now that i haven't even O'ed yet.  But I like it when people let us know of "snark" (please that wasn't even snark...) I appreciate the heads up.  please say hi anytime @doxiemoxie212

Yikes. I’m going out on a limb....
It is okay to say, “Hey, I did this racist/sexist thing. It wasn’t okay, I don’t know how I got that stereotype, but I will be more cognisent  and challenge it in the future.”
Things are not all good or all bad. Just because you aren’t an overt racist/sexist/ageist , does not mean you do not have racist/sexist/ageist tendencies.  The fact of the matter is we ALL have mannerisms, traits, biases, opinions, routines, etc that are based on oppression of someone else.  
It is wrong (in my opinion) to say, “yup, that my belief and it keeps me feeling safer” when it is based in ignorance and discrimination. 
Good for @doxiemoxie212  and others for standing up for a group they are not a part of (male species). If the privileged group doesn’t stand up for the oppressed, who will?

Quick note based on my UO in our thread... I have NOT read the June BMB UO yet, so my O has nothing to do with that convo, just throwing that out there because based on what you've said, @krashke, it sounds like it's a debacle - one that I'm now off to read.

@jrm_14 Yes! Exactly. We all have tons of biases, and I for one appreciate it when someone tells me I've said or done something that shows a bias. It gives me a chance to learn and grow.

@jrm_14 I don't think anything I say is particularly offensive, some people are just too happy with the report button. I think attitudes like certain people's are what keep highly qualified and capable males out of early childhood (my field), and I've met some exceptional male early childhood educators. I might also have wanted to add this gif, so that would have made it more problematic:

Not to turn attention away from the dumpster fire that appears to be the June BMB, but I have a random quesiton for this group: What is with all the noodle references??? Noodle testing, noodle gifts, etc. I realize my noob status is showing by even asking the question, but I'm dying to know.

Also, @krashke can you share link from M18? Would love a distraction this afternoon.

Not to beat a dead horse, but saying you wouldn't hire a male as a nanny, is just as sexist as someone saying they wouldn't vote a female into office, because HORMONES AND PMS AND EMOTIONS. Just...no.

I need to get a life and stop lurking but she just said in the baby names thread that her DD was named Morgan for a day until her DS renamed her. You let your son just change the name of his sister? I'm I the crazy one here? Your daughter is not a puppy.
