H2O, I dislike you so...

Ok ladies, am I the only one who is no longer a fan of water? I feel like it's the only thing I can drink. I tend to get my feelings hurt when DH and I go to dinner and he orders a cocktail....and I get water. Lol. What are you all drinking that still remains healthy?

Re: H2O, I dislike you so...

  • I'm definitely having an aversion to water! And that's all I normally drink (besides beer, sigh). Lately, I've been cutting my water with another beverage. My go to is sweet tea but I make it at home and put less sugar in it. If I drink water plain then it's got to be ICE cold.

  • I've never been a huge fan of water to begin with. So drinking the expected amount is REALLY hard for me. I've been supplementing with some of those flavored sprays that they have (Aquafina, even koolaid because I'm five!) and that helps!
  • I hate water. I always have.  Since artificial sweeteners hurt my stomach, and sugar is bad for obvious reasons, it's kind of a case of "too bad".  So in order to make sure I drank enough, I bought a Protien shake bottle that has ounces on it.  That way I can't cheat and dehydrate myself.

I did find that the colder water is, the less gross.  Also, I bought an infuser to have different flavored water occasionally.  Still boring, but better.

  • I usually love water but am struggling with it now as well. Like @ngolimento and @btm013 said I've found I need the water to be really cold to get it down without gagging and sometimes the only way I can drink it is to squeeze a lemon in it.
  • Water has the tendency to give me heartburn. Sometimes I can guzzle it, other times I take one sip and want to die.

  • Pre-pregnancy, I was a big water drinker. Now it's a chore. I don't drink soda (not a good time to start either lol), but have bought some flavored waters with carbonation.  Not really a healthy alternative, but a treat I guess. Coincidentally, I normally don't drink much milk, but that may be my favorite thing right now... Darn babies are messing me up  ;)

  • I had never heard of an aversion to water until this board, but I've developed one too. Every time I take a sip of water, I always throw it up. I've been attached to milk, pop, Gatorade, and iced tea. I really miss water though

  • YES! I never felt like this with my first pregnancy but with this one I've had days where I don't want to drink anything, especially water. It's so strange. I've tried flavored waters, flavored decaf teas, Gatorade, juices, decaf soda (not a big soda drinker to begin with), and even the vanilla bean frap from Starbucks. Something may work for a day but then the next day I hate that option. I'm still on plain water but like everyone has mentioned it has to be ice, ice cold. Who would have thought that eating has been ok but drinking has been the issue??
  • I usually love water but I just can't this pregnancy. I'm constantly trying to cut down beverages with water to see what I can handle. It's always changing. Last week was water with a splash of lemonaide. Before that sweet tea.  There was a week I loved flavored water.  This has become a way bigger struggle that I'm dealing w everyday. Helps to see I'm not alone.

  • I've been drinking some water but it's not my favorite... I've been loving watered down yellow gatorade or seltzer water, and when im out and its a treat, lemonade or gingerale. I ordered a Shirley temple once but it was sickeningly sweet lol

Club soda and lime at a restaurant to feel more “cocktaily “. (A splash of cranberry juice instead of lime is fun too but I don’t do liquid calories). At home I’m drinking la croix  or hot tea when I can’t force myself to drink water.
  • Oh and ice cold water while it tastes better leaves me absolutely freezing for hours after, so I have to drink something warm after, ot I physically ache from being cold.

I buy the sugar free water flavor packs or drops to make my water less boring. Sometimes I’ll infuse my water with orange slices, lemon, strawberries, etc.
  • Lately I've been buying Perrier strawberry..no fake or sweetener of any kind, just bubbles and a hint of strawberry aftertaste. I also brewed a big batch of herbal (decaf) tea to see if that will work..., glad I'm not alone.

I tried an unsweetened pink grapefruit water. Tartness isn't usually an issue for me, but it was horrible. I tried a second sip to see if I was overreacting... nope. Dumped the rest of the bottle. Glad I didn't buy the 12 pack of cans  :D

  • I love this thread, and I'm glad I'm not the only one that is really disliking water at the moment. I don't do well with carbonated beverages because of my stomach so I've been adding a splash of Arnold Palmer mix, grape juice and even non-alcoholic margarita mix to my water. It's really been the only way I've managed to stay hydrated. Let's hope it gets easier for all of us as time goes on!

Yes! I have been trying to sip it throughout the day but for some reason it makes me nauseous and have heart burn. Ginger ale has been my go to drink with lots of ice. I will say I've been bad this week though.....with slurpees!! It's been 90 in Michigan and I swear I am craving slurpees all the time and they go down awesome. I know that much sugar isn't great but it's really helped me this week. It's given me some pep in my step lol since I have cut out coffee and some days eating much due to nausea.
  • Chilled Gatorade sounds absolutely divine to me right now. My husband can keep his foul-smelling bourbon and I will happily chug Gatorade (note: foul-smelling to me right now - normally I'm a bourbon girl as well).

  • @lindsye I still miss the bourbon. I'm not a beer drinker, not a soda or juice drinker....but I lived a nice bourbon every once in awhile. I think because it was "our" drink that my hormonal feelings get hurt when he still orders it in front of me....lol
  • I totally get it, @bmxerbaby. We live in Houston and love TexMex, and I consider it traitorous for him to order a frozen margarita in front of me (apparently that's enough like a slushy to still sound great to me), and yeah, it's "our" drink.

  • Seltzer water with a few dashes of orange or angostura bitters in it has always been good to settle my stomach, even pre pregnancy. Highly recommend!
  • @lesliegolem I'm from Michigan too and I'm completely over this heat. It's so annoying. Water has been really difficult to drink for me as well. It makes me nauseous and sometimes I get heartburn as well. Slushies and smoothies are my go to right now. Crushed up ice with something is like the only thing that ever sounds good.
  • I don't have this problem. It's weird that I'm drinking water because Iv always had to force myself to drink it. I used to live on coffee until about noon and then drink Soda! I haven't had either in about two months the thought of Soda and coffee make me cringe. It's not a bad thing I guess but never in my life did I picture this happening.
  • I'm an obsessive water drinker... mainly because I've been pregnant and/or breastfeeding since early 2014. However, first trimester I always have an aversion. It drives me crazy. This pregnancy carbonated water seems to help a bit (but carbonation and pregnancy don't go together for me... I get too burpy and end up nauseous).

@Lindsye I have to lol at your comment about bourbon. Not pregnant I am not a fan at all. When I'm pregnant the LOVE the smell of bourbon. Its ridiculous. It was actually our first sign that I might be pregnant with this baby. DH was drinking a cocktail and I was like, "mmm that smells good!" He jokingly said, "you must be pregnant!"

  • In the last week I've discovered cherry limeades at sonic. Which is probably not a good idea if I want to stay in my weight gain goals. Counting I can control myself. But yeah, usually I do the vitamin flavors, mio or generic, even before I was preggo, makes it so much easier to keep drinking it all day when flavored for me.
