@vflux33 My belly button is kind of an... innie/outtie and has a mind of its own— pregnant or not. I feel like it was definitely out around 20 weeks though.
Thanks @ShawnnaO. I've tried to do some research but it seems the amounts are so different even just in the local area. She's doing us a huge favor so I want to compensate her appropriately but also take advantage of the cheaper rate too.
@barrelocarol by cheapest cute diaper do you mean diaper cover?
We don't have diaper service where I live, and I don't think I'd pay for it anyway. So I'm looking at doing cloth on my own. Also, did you get the thing you attach to the toilet to spray them off before washing?
I've been cloth diapering for over 2 years. You don't need a diaper service. Washing them is no big deal. Don't bother with the sprayer, either. It's easier to just scrape the diapers (I use a big, old, mixing spoon on which I wrote "POOP" with a Sharpie. Lol). When the kid starts eating solids, the poop gets more solid, too, and you can really easily just plop it into the toilet.

1. The spoon is brilliant! Stealing this idea bc I just do a careful but forceful fling vs the sprayer. Works for me. I stuck infant poopy diapers directly into the wash.
2. I use pocket diapers.
3. I'm excited for a CD thread bc the CD bump board is a ghost town.
4. God bless diaper services but my goal was to save money. Thumbs up to everything @HappyMonkey817 said.
Is it odd that neither my OB nor my MFM suggested or scheduled me for an NT scan? I'm over 12w now and it's almost too late to have one. I'll have to call in the morning but they may not have availability to get me in ASAP.
@vflux33 Yes, I did the NIPT on Tuesday. So maybe I don't need the NT now...? I found it weird that my OB treated both as unnecessary/optional tests. Maybe they are... but I would still think that at least one would be more strongly recommended.
@ladybugsamom So I know you're not in CA, but here it's all very regimented in our state program regardless of your insurance: if over 35 at EDD and/or high risk for genetic issues, then NIPT; if under 35 and no known reason for a genetic issue then you have 4 choices--the first 2 are individual blood tests, the 3rd is a series of 2 blood tests, and the 4th is the same 2 blood tests as option 3 + the NT scan. I was told if I went out of pocket for the NIPT or the NIPT was recommended to me for some reason, then I would not get the NT and the bloodwork that comes with it. Again this is just CA but it may reflect the understanding of a lot of doctors not just in CA. Like I think the NIPT makes the NT and accompanying blood tests redundant. And a lot of people think NIPT is better. So I definitely wouldn't worry about it because ultimately you're gonna get all the info you need. I don't know why you weren't strongly recommended to one though--for me all this info came from a state-sponsored info packet--but there may not be as clear of a policy in other states.
@vflux33 Okay, that helps. I'll be 35 in a couple weeks and I'm considered high-risk because of diabetes and weight, but even with that I had to ask and opt-in for the NIPT and no one ever mentioned the NT scan. I still think that's odd. Since I had the NIPT maybe I won't worry about the NT. I agree that it would seem redundant.
@ladybugsamom, I think it all depends on where you live. This is my 4th pregnancy and the only one I'm having an NT scan because of a diagnosis in my last pregnancy. It is not standard here unless you're 35+
Hey ladies! Question... I have had a cold for about a week now. It started last weekend and I thought it was just allergies, but it never went away. I made a doctor's appointment for this afternoon so I could see someone before the long weekend, but what can they do for pregnant ladies? This may be a dumb question but I never had this happen when I was pregnant with DD. I guess there are some safe antibiotics they could give me? Thanks!

@hollyk224 It'll depend on if they think it's viral or not. There ARE antibiotics they can give if not. Otherwise they may just give you suggestions of pregnancy safe medication you can take or other things to try. We've had a couple Mamas feeling this way on the board who may be more helpful.

There are safe antibiotics, if it turns out that that's what you need. I'm on some right now for a UTI.
If you don't need antibiotics, there are a few cold medicines that are safe. I'm sure your doctor can give you a list. If those don't help, you could try Benadryl. I know it's an allergy medicine, but for me, it helps with cold symptoms, too.
@hollyk224 Sorry you're not feeling well. I had a horrible respiratory virus a couple weeks ago. Do you have a fever or is it just a basic cold? I was told to take Tylenol to keep the fever down below 100.4 and I had a couple menthol cough drops but for the rest just ate a ton of honey and toughed it out. For mine I asked about antiviral meds and they gave me a sinus test to see if I had one of 17 common viruses. Since I had a different one they didn't test for, they said it would be best not to take antiviral meds. If you just have a regular cold and it's not super bad (no fever) I'm not sure the antiviral meds would even be worth it if they did offer it because I was told the whole point of them is to keep the fever from getting high. I was also told the antiviral meds are only useful at the very beginning of the virus so that may not be applicable to you anyway. As for meds I'd ask your own dr. but then look everything up yourself and decide which classes of meds you are open to taking. A lot of people take class B and C drugs but I personally decided to avoid everything but the tylenol (class A, proven safe in pregnancy) and menthol cough drops because of extreme paranoia. I know a lot of ladies here take benadryl pretty regularly and seem fine though. GL!
Thanks @vflux33@HappyMonkey817@ShawnnaO! I haven't had a fever, and I think it's just a basic cold. Hopefully I can get things figured out later at my appointment and get to feeling better soon.

@hollyk224 I have bronchitis so I took an antibiotic and steroids. I also used a lot of otc meds (robitussin, Benadryl, some afrin) plus honey and lemon in tea. Good luck!
@mountain_girl not sure if anyone ever answered your question about your nipt results. my OB always calls me in to go over results- even if there is nothing of concern. My sister is a doctor and I asked her why he dies this (because I find it so irritating.. my GP just calls). She said that if they call you in for an appointment - they can bill, charge and get paid. if they simply call - they can't bill.
that's most likely all it is. I hope you got some good news!
Thanks @bb3vj3n results were good, and yes I think you're right, Canadian doctors don't get paid unless you physically come in for an appointment....the issue is I moved, so I had to drive 50 min for him to tell me the results were good, keep taking my prenatals, and then he checked my blood pressure and weight. It was a total of 8 minutes. Excited that my future appointments will be closer to home with a midwife
Question - how long did you wait to get results of NT scan?
*TW* We are doing it specifically because our last baby had Gastroschisis (his organs were growing on the outside of his body because his stomach lining didn't fully close), and we miscarried at 15 weeks. Is this something they'd tell us right at the scan? Or will we have to wait a while to get results? *End TW*
I'll be asking my OB this week about how quickly for results as well. Just curious what others have experienced. We are in Canada if that makes a difference.

I'm in the US, so I'm not sure if this is helpful, but I believe they told us the NT width after the scan was done (and the radiologist had looked over the scans), but it took a week or two for combined blood work results to come back. I'd think that the tech probably wouldn't be able to say anything during the scan, but that if they find something concerning that a Dr would come and talk to you after the scan is done.

@justkeeptrying Our tech told us the result while doing the scan and then we met with our doctor directly after that and he went over everything again. I'm also in the US, though.
Question: My DD just turned 4 this past week. We had her annual check up and the woman we saw (NP) recommended that we do the kindergarten boosters now because she's noticed that 4-year-olds tend to handle it better than 5-year-olds when it comes to the doctor experience and shots. In hindsight, I'm a little worried that it wasn't the right choice because DD has a low-grade fever and she's not feeling well--like she's been laying on the couch all morning which is entirely out of her MO. Any STM insight on fever after shots? I know it's low grade and shouldn't be an issue, but it worries me that maybe she's too young and it wasn't the best choice for her. Obviously, I can't undo it, but I'm curious if anyone else did them earlier rather than later?
@LiveNLove44 a low grade fever after immunizations is exactly the response you want. It means the body is reacting appropriately and building antibodies against the diseases.
@justkeeptrying the woman who did my blood work said it takes atleast a week for results and that they would be sent directly to my doctor and not available to be seen online (usually I can access). she said the only way to get results was through my doctor so I don't believe your US tech would be able to say anything.
my NT was 6 days ago and my appointment is not for another 2wks - so I'm just going to stay positive and wait it out
Thanks @becausescience, @chasingroygbiv, and @bb3vj3n. I wish they could just give the results immediately. My next OB appointment won't be for probably 3-4 weeks after that. I'm going to ask her if I can come in sooner or when to expect results by phone. I am not prepared to wait until October to find out.
I'm freaking out. I had read on several websites and had been told by many that peppermint oil mixed with carrier oil on my temples for my migraines would be safe during pregnancy, now I was just being nosey and reading a conversation on Facebook and someone said it is NOT safe. This is the only time I use oils (for migraines). Should I be panicking as much as I am???
@mdfarmchick Ugh. I've never heard of it not being safe. I haven't used it a ton, but I would say at least once a week! I was trying to use that over medication. Just can't win these days. Nothing is safe!
@chasingroygbiv I'd try not to worry too much. I remember having a moment like that with my first pregnancy when I was probably 28 weeks along and I happened to read my protein powder label. I think it said something like "Not intended for use if pregnant or breastfeeding." WTF?! Ah! I freaked out and messaged my clinic immediately! My OB was really reassuring and reminded me that companies cover their butts by writing that to ensure they're not liable. She felt really comfortable with me consuming it regularly, my daughter is pretty much amazing, and all turned out well. I know EOs are different, but I'd imagine there isn't enough research out there for anyone to make those statements as facts. Don't let it worry you, and just run it by your OB next time you're in. Don't waste any of your energy you still have worrying about it!
I've been reading but still confused....can someone clear this up for me?
I have a NT ultrasound scheduled for 9/18. At my last appt, I saw a different doc who said that since I'll be 35 when I deliver, I could get 'materni21' blood work, which is more specific for any chromosomal abnormalities. They did the blood work that day.
@orbmaker@fatstagnation I cloth diaper- I started out with Pockets and ended up with prefolds being my favorite. theluvyourbaby.com sells Kuwaii brand and we like those. Wait until Black Friday to order anything. They have awesome deals on all the diaper sites then. I also used a spatula as a scraper and did A diaper sprayer.
@JamieK1882 I'd call the office right away Monday morning if you're in CA or Tuesday for the US. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to do both.
I still have the NT scheduled and (FFF?) still wanted it done to see baby and make sure all is ok before announcing. But DH thinks I'm crazy, and part of me is worried I'll get stuck with a massive insurance bill for doing both.

A really good website is NAHA.org and ACOG.org has a surprising amount of info on essential oils, and of course, Google Scholar.
Eucalyptus oil is recommended as a substitute for peppermint in early pregnancy.
Essential oils are considered generally safe when diluted, not applied directly to sensitive skin (under the eyes, lips, infant skin, etc...), not ingested, not applied to a preggo belly/back and not applied to specific acupressure points (mainly foot and wrist points).
People with more knowledge use essential oils in the specific ways listed above. Doesn't mean it's not safe, they just have advanced knowledge around its use.
The main deal with essential oils is that they are uncontrolled and freely available so the research out there is conducted in terms of free access, vs the restricted access of drugs. If that makes sense...
But essential oils are great and there is a growing body of literature around them.
