pee in a cup

How often did your dr/midwife have you pee in a cup for them? My pregnancy books all say to expect that at every visit, but I haven't done that since my initial panels at 6 weeks. Should I be concerned?

Re: pee in a cup

  • yep every single time.

I don't know if I'd be concerned, but I would ask.  It's good baseline info to make sure you're not getting any protein or sugar.

  • Every single time...Even if I end up at the dr between regular visits for some reason  they still have me do it.   I think its important so that they can check protein levels in your urine.
  • weird! i did every single time....

  • I had Group Health with DS - never peed in a cup.  Ever.

This time I am at a different m/w office and I pee in a cup at each appt.

  • Every single appt.

They told me at my 1st appt after I check in to go to the bathroom and pee in the cup and they have this container of test sticks in there for me to test it myself.  I'd stick the strip in and then read the color after 10 seconds or so then go back to the waiting room for them to call me back.  Then the nurse would ask me the color of the strips.  (One for sugar and one for protein)  I never had to hand off the cup except for the very 1st appt.

  • Yep, every time. They told me to just go back and do it as soon as I get to the office for every appt.

  • Thanks everybody, sounds like a Group Health thing. I wonder what there reasoning is? Guess I'll ask at my next visit.
