9 weeks 5 days and spent the weekend with uncomfortable lower abdomen pains (alternating left and right, sometimes stretching to upper thighs) and aching lower back pain. No spotting (although I've had that on and off since 5 weeks, which the doctor wasn't worried about because I've had a normal scan at 6 weeks and a good hcg test at 8 weeks). Anybody else getting this sort of thing? Makes me nervous because it's been going all weekend! Thanks ladies x

I'm not a doctor, but it sounds normal to me. Some aches and discomfort are normal as things stretch out. If it's bad pain that's really bothering you, though, you might consider calling your doctor. I hope it's nothing.
Guys, my constipation is getting unbearable. I've gone almost a week now without going. Colace isn't doing it and neither is water, dried or regular fruit. I can't possibly choke down prune juice right now. What else can I do?? I ended up in the ER while pregnant with my daughter because I had gone 13 days without going and they had me drink magnesium citrate. I can't imagine that's an ideal option. Is there anything else I can try BEFORE I have to go that route?
I'm sorry you're suffering. Constipation is the worst. Some good suggestions have already been made, but I'll give you one more. As much as it sucks (and believe me, I know it does), try to move around a bit. It can help things "move along". Feel better soon
Okay, so the milk of magnesia worked. Maybe a little too well. lol but oh well I'm glad I don't need to have an enema or something worse. I was a day away from it being 7 days since I last pooped
Fellow constipation sufferer here--before getting pregnant was looking into possible food sensitivities and IBS-C. I was told I could take Miralax during pregnancy, but some of the chemicals in it make me nervous. Colace isn't doing the trick. Water isn't doing the trick. Flaxseed isn't doing the trick. Because of nausea and aversions I can't eat in the best way for this BUT I know from my experience prior to getting pregnant that that didn't make a big difference for me anyway (I went low carb eating tons of veggies for 2 months earlier this year and still had issues). I *think* cutting all dairy may help, but I was told this could result in baby/ies getting a dairy allergy so not worth it (plus cheese is awesome).
When you guys say you haven't pooped do you mean not AT ALL or just occasional small painful poops. I have a mix. Sometimes I won't poop at all for a few days, but more often I get small painful poops that are definitely not enough but are something.
Also has anyone here done an enema while pregnant? Was it OK/safe? Did you use a particular at home kit or get it done professionally? I'm considering it. I know it's super gross but I love the idea of feeling "cleared out".
@vflux33 I literally hadn't pooped anything at all in 5 days, but day six I was, but they were like super tiny pieces. Not normal. That's all the colace was able to do for me. I took milk of magnesia last night before bed and this morning was actually able to go
@vflux33@babybluu@chasingroygbiv I've been taking a tablespoon or two of chia seeds every day in my yogurt/cereal/oatmeal/juice/whatever and so far I've stayed regular! Worth a shot?
ETA: I did a warm water (not too hot!) enema on myself last year when an antibiotic I was taking for Lyme seemed to block me up. I don't see why that wouldn't be safe for pregnancy (but ask your doctor if you're not sure). You can buy a kit at the drug store. The key is "holding it in" as long as possible (think 10/15 minutes while lying on your left side or with your butt in the air) so that the stool can absorb the water and soften up. You may have to try more than once. I do enemas on other people in the emergency department on the regular (I'm a nurse), so that's an option, but it's literally just putting water up there and either way it won't work well if you don't hold it in. I think warm water/ soap sud enemas work better than the fleets.
Let the tmi roll - at almost 40 weeks, my ob suggested an enema to clear everything out. Seriously, that was freaking difficult to administer, but I was so happy for the relief. Love @orbmaker's tips!!
Also, constipated friends, I'm a long time hemorrhoid person. They're horrible. I had an acupuncture session about 6 months ago to treat this and haven't even come close to a heme scare, which is miraculous for me. Seriously, cant recommend acupuncture enough!
Most of the OB's in my area know of an acupuncturist they refer to so it's pretty widely used.
All I know is this cramping and being able to literally feel poop in my abdomen is NOT cool. I must poop today. Or else I may explode. And nobody wants to witness that sight let me tell you right now.
I'm a chronic constipation sufferer even before pregnancy. It's so bad I have hemorrhoids and recently a rectal fissure that had just about healed when I got pregnant. I was terrified to take ANYTHING but I had to continue 300 mg of colace or risk my fissure tearing more which could end in infection or needing surgery which I was not wanting. Even that sometimes wasn't enough so my doc said milk of magnesia is fine. I do the MIlk of magnesia like once a week and colace every day and I'm sorta regular but I still feel HUGE and I am still in excruciating pain when I poop. Constipation is literally my middle name. I drink GALLONS of water and buckets of fruit and no help.
But yes milk milk of magnesia is safe just not every day cuz it can effect absorption. And take it like opposite when you take your prenatal so baby gets all the vitamins.
@barrelocarol how many treatments of acupuncture helped you with constipation, and how frequently do you for this? I tried one a week or so ago and I didn't feel like it made a difference.
@chasingroygbiv I'm sure you have tried everything but a small cup of coffee and a yogurt help me. I was avoiding coffee but it helps so much it's worth it, and well under caffeine amounts!
I have strong dizziness and lightheadedness whenever I stand up after sitting more than 20 minutes, and definitely after I have been laying down.
More bloated this pregnancy already. Can hardly button my "fat" jeans at 6 wks.
Sleeplessness, get up to pee 2-3 times a night and cant fall back asleep.
A slightly naseous, slightly nervous feeling like butterflies in my stomach. Most food doesnt sound appetizing. All I want is toast. I never had this with other pregnancies.
Stuck in a quote box when I wasn't even quoting? Hmm...
Last time around, my doula mentioned that kefir might help with poop issues. It's not for everyone, but I find it tasty. Hopefully, it will help some of you constipation sufferers.
@vflux33 I see my acupuncturist like once a month or so. I saw her once for the heme and it was a magic pop...Like, the poop FELL out of me the next morning, magically.
I will say, I used to see a different acupuncturist who was wonderful, but I just wasn't responding to any treatment of hers.
@maureenbioni I wish so badly I didn't relate to everything you said here. Same! I drink TONS of water (not while pregnant, sadly), tons of fiver, exercise, yada yada. Some bodies, huh?
@bettyvonsomethingstein I tried them while pregnant with my daughter when I was having such a hard time with constipation, but maybe I should give it a try this go around. Never know?
@vflux33 It is not at all for me either, I've been dealing with this since I was a little girl. I tend to get by while not pregnant though because I'm not as nervous to take different things to get things moving.
I still haven't gone, by the way.. It has me SO nauseated and I know it's from that because I feel this exact way when I'm not pregnant when it gets really bad. Ugh.
Also, my nips have never hurt in previous pregnancies, but whoa. I don't even know how to explain how they feel. Almost like they're... burning? Irritated? I don't know, but I'm about ready to go out and buy the boob gel pads for nursing because they sound amazing right now!
@chasingroygbiv I'm sorry you're struggling! Yes I was taking Miralax 6/7 days of the week before my BFP and that was the only thing that really helped me. Probably not great to take every day though. I had just cut dairy to see if that would help and then was told not to do that when pregnant so still not sure whether that would be my golden ticket or not. Even smooth move stopped working for me a year or so ago. Not cool.
Poor everyone. I hope it (the poop) comes out good for you soon. I just had to call my doctor because I cannot take this nausea one more day. I can't even think. I can't eat in the morning without a cheerleader. I am not a med person but I have to work and live and can't be taking all these days off (this past Friday).

Suggestion for probiotics: Go to your sprouts/ whole foods/ trader joes and buy the COLD ones in the fridge. Keep them cold on your way home and put them right in the fridge.
