How would you pronounce "Rives" knowing it was someone's name?

My husband really likes the name Rives for our baby girl (its a family name), and I am worried that the spelling of Rives would be mispronounced.

Would we be setting our daughter for a life of explaining?

I would assume Riv-ez. Is it a family name? It sounds like a last name turned first name.

As a person with a difficult to pronounce first name, i would encourage you to use the name that you love. Even simple names get mispronounced. It's not really that big of a deal.

Thank you for the feedback. This validates my argument that it would be mispronounced to rhyme with Hives when its supposed to be pronounced Reeves. I think he could be happy with it as a middle name...we'll see

I immediately thought of Hives too. I would have never thought of "Reeves". Would he be willing to spell it that way and keep the way it sounds to honor the family?

I thought as a family name it was probably pronounced like "Reeves", but my first instinct as a teacher was to pronounce it to rhyme with hives.

I would say Reeves, but I really don't like it for a first name on a girl. Since it's a family name I would put it in the mn spot and keep looking for a first name.
