Hey there new folks! I'm looking forward to getting to know you!
I had to bust in here with all this Harry Potter talk (we DEFINITELY need a Harry Potter GTKY). I LOVED the Cursed Child. I think the story really stands on its own outside of the HP universe. However, you have to take into consideration that it is a play. If you don't like reading plays, you may not enjoy it. That seemed to be the dividing line among my friends. My theatre friends loved it, everyone else not so much. I would love to hear your thoughts, @darkstar42!
Totally agree with you on CC. I enjoyed it, but I am a big theater nerd. I really hope it tours at some point after it's Broadway run so I can see it.
@glitzandglitter I just finished my PhD in history after 7 long years (I was teaching as a grad assistant in it, though, so it wasn't just 7 years of straight up school)
@darkstar42@msmeeseeks I wasn't a huge fan of the Cursed Child, and not because it was a play. I didn't like time travel as a bait-and-switch to get you back to the original time-frame of the HP books, and several characterizations felt off to me. I really loved Scorpius Malfoy though.
On mobile so hard to tag folks but re cursed child, I also loved it. DH didn't because he didn't feel it moved anything further along - like, I guess he felt it was pointless because of the time travel back and forth. But I loved that about it!
@doxiemoxie212 I loved that aspect, too. It felt so comfortable to go back to the events in the previous books and to revisit old characters. Also, Scorpius was the best!
Ages (you
and SO): 27 & 27, been together for 10 years and married for 5.
How many
months have you been TTC? A little
over 4 now, but due to irregular periods and breakthrough bleeding (especially
after sex), I saw my gyno a little over a month ago. Basically she said that
I’m not ovulating and my endometrium isn’t thickening properly (she did an
ultrasound on cycle day #9), so even if I did ovulate, the fertilized egg would
never be able to implant. She told me that I couldn’t get pregnant at least for
now, but that the issue might still fix itself. I quit oral birth control
(Cerazette) in March and she said it might take a while for all the hormone
buildup to clear out of my system. Even so, she decided to schedule me some
labs for September (TSH, prolactin and progesterone). I feel like time’s flying
by and my stupid body can’t even get itself together enough to work at least
halfway decently. ☹
What are
you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)? Well,
besides the obvious: prenatal vitamins, eating healthy and some charting. Also
tried OPK for a couple of cycles, but never getting a positive made me so upset
that I stopped after my gyno appointment.
Tell us
about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.)
No kids, no
pets. Would love a dog though. We’ve thought about waiting to have a kid before
we get a dog, but I’ve decided that if I don’t get pregnant by next summer,
we’re getting that dog anyway.
I’ve got a
master’s in engineering, and I work in construction management. I love my job.
My hobbies
mainly include reading, writing (fanfic, baby!) and Netflixing. I'm a total geek and an avid fangirl, so I'm loving all the HP talk in this thread
Welcome, @stemgirl11! Sorry to hear about everything you're going through. You might want to check out the IF thread -- I'm a newbie there but there's a wealth of information that everyone is happy to share.
Also, my husband is a civil PE and does design/construction management. He loves it, too!
How many months have you been TTC? We are starting our first Cycle this month, CD1 is 22nd July. I've been on the contraceptive pill for the last 7 years, since having our youngest girl. I only have 4 more tablets to take and then I'm counting the seconds until I can start my first cycle. We have been discussing having another baby for a while, but decided to start trying now after a recent holiday. We are trying for baby number 4, and would love to have a boy, but will be over the moon to be pregnant with either.
I had a lot of problems during my previous pregnancies and am slightly concerned about it happening again, but I've longed for another baby for the last 7 years. I had severe SPD during each pregnancy, which started at 4 weeks, and developed into a spontaneous symphisiotomy during the 2nd pregnancy. When it fused back together, it fused twisted so my hips are out of line, and my back is damaged. I now have Fibromyalgia, arthritis, joint hypermobility, bulging disc, reynauds disease, IBS, postural hypotension, chronic migraines and asthma.
What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)? I'm already taking prenatal vitamins, and will be charting my temp, CM, etc once I start Cycle 1. I will also be using OPK's. Oh and obviously lots of sex. I'm now in the process of getting healthier by changing my diet and exercising more in the hope that I conceive sooner rather than later.
Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.) I'm a married mum of 3 girls, aged 13, 12 and 7, and have been with my husband for 14 years and married for 10 years next month.
I'm an artist, and specialise in coloured pencil portraits. I also sew, and make loads of different items, including bags and purses, toys and items for the home.
We currently have 2 dogs, 5 hens and 4 ducks, but have had loads of different animals over the years, including ponies, gerbils and tropical fish.

Hey everyone New "oldie" here. I was pretty active on the boards through last year, but had to step back and take a break. I'd like to try and see if I can be active on here again and get to know some of you ladies... Ages (you and SO): 39, 41
How many months have you been TTC? 15
What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)? Nothing at the moment - we are benched until the end of August. I'm going in for a hysteroscopy at the end of July to remove a possible septum in my uterus, then we need to take a month off after that. BUT! When I was actively trying to get KU, I was temping, charting, using opks, etc. Doc has me on some OvaVite and DHEA now.
Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.) I'm a high school AP Physics teacher, and I have a cat and a dog. For hobbies, I love crossfit, reading, belly dancing, playing games (board and video), and homebrewing (DH makes beer, I make mead).
@hezzer78 welcome! My husband is starting his first year of teaching in the fall and he's teaching physics and chemistry! Love that you and your H brew beer and mead. That sounds so fun and yummy!
@hezzer78 my FIL makes homemade wines! He tried brewing beer, but it did not turn out well

How many months have you been TTC? I'm not sure how to answer this properly. 6, but I was benched for 2 of those.

@kmalls thanks for the tip, I'll have to check it out! That's cool about your husband, my specialty is in the field of civil engineering as well (as you probably guessed, haha).
@hedgepig My interests vary a lot, but as far as shows go, recently I've been digging Stranger Things, Big Little Lies, The Handmaid's Tale, Poldark and Designated Survivor. Friends is an evergreen classic, kind of like Harry Potter when it comes to books. In general I'm into fantasy/sci-fi/historical/romance as well as the YA genre. As for movies, the LOTR trilogy and Nolan's Batman trilogy are among my faves.
I was active on this board last summer and we tried briefly (about 3 months), but my DH was nervous about TTC because of financial reasons. We stopped for a while and have worked a lot of things out. Now, we're ready to start trying again.
What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)?
I'm trying to get back into the swing of things. I just order some OPKs from Amazon and I need to start taking my vitamins again. The good thing about my break from TTC was that I've lost 15 pounds in the last year through improved diet and exercise.
Thanks, @stemgirl11. I prefer fantasy. I have read the Harry Potter series more times than I probably should, but I also really like the Iron Druid series.
How many months have you been TTC? We are starting TTC #2 this cycle, after a tumultuous few months. Right now, I am just incredibly grateful to be here.
What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)?
Oh, and temping - temping is good. Aaaaaand I will probably do weird things with OPKs, some photodiodes, and an arduino at some point. It won't work very well, but it will be a lot of fun. I'll eventually come to my senses about mixing pee sticks and electronics, and then it's back to this:
Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.) We have a 9 month old son, who is delightful. No pets, except for the family of Lego AT-ATs that live on our bookshelf. I'm a stay at home mom and a student while my husband is an engineer. I'm a big fan of epic fantasy and hard SF. Black Company is love, Rama is life. I also hike, make things from crochet to woodworking (I'm not very good at woodworking yet, but I'll get there), play a certain... ahem... AR game on occasion, and generally aim for a simple and sustainable lifestyle.
I look forward to meeting you all. Here. Take one for the road:
@hedgepig Oh man. Okay. In terms of books, I am into authors like Arthur C. Clarke and Kim Stanley Robinson. I tried really hard to like Gene Wolfe lately, but it didn't take. I was reading the Book of the New Sun, but the main character made my eyes roll a bit too hard to focus on the page. Eh, it happens. On the lighter side, I loved the Old Man's War series by John Scalzi. It was really entertaining. And Machine of Death is a good quick read even though I was late to the party.
In terms of TV, I am still, as the youth would say, salty about Firefly. And Stargate. I also have an unhealthy relationship with Star Wars, complete with a lot of opinions on the subject. This is getting long, but do you have any recommendations?
@duck_duck_goose That's awesome, I love HP too (and fantasy in general I haven't read the Iron Druid series, though. Some of my personal faves aside from HP are the Percy Jackson novels by Rick Riordan, The Golem and the Djinni by Helene Wecker, Lockwood & Co. series by Jonathan Stroud and the Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer. Have you tried any of these?
@damantium Kim Stanley Robinson - I read the Mars trilogy and loved it, but it's probably been 10 years or so since then. More recently I read the Three Californias trilogy, although I don't think I finished the last one - just couldn't get into it. Any other recommendations by him? Arthur C Clarke - I don't think I'be read any, which seems crazy because he's such important figure in scifi. John Scalzi - I thought Old Man's War was super fun, and have been working through his other books, although they don't seem to be quite as good. As for me: I've been on a big Neal Stephenson kick lately - his most recent, Seveneves, blew my mind. I have an undying love for Robert A. Heinlein and recently went on an Amazon buying spree to round out our collection to encompass basically his whole bibliography. Straying a little further from hard scifi, I love cyberpunk - William Gibson, Philip K. Dick - and post-apocalyptic - Paolo Bacigalupi, Margaret Atwood, Octavia E. Butler.

Kim Stanley Robinson - I read the Mars trilogy and loved it, but it's probably been 10 years or so since then.
Butler.
