in general to many of the above posts, i think there's a HUGE difference between people whose feelings are hurt over a difference of perspectives verses people who are just mean to each other.

Each week I read UO and think yessss finally, these are my people but then I read other stuff and want to take a nap. My last BMB was pretty amazing too, so it's hard to not have the same expectations. Still early though, it's getting there.
I agree most of the shows listed above suck pretty hard, except Friends. BBT is awful.
My UO that should not be UO at all and is very fitting today: our President is mega embarrassing. Like whatever to your political beliefs, but he is like a gross drunk uncle that makes me cringe with every tweet.

Ok I'm a little late to this thread but Seinfeld all the way. I enjoy Friends like a nice hot cup of cocoa when I'm feeling nostalgic, but the content of Seinfeld is way more relatable and contemporary. Anyway, since Seinfeld ended I've also been a big fan of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Larry David (co creator of Seinfeld) is hilarious!
So everyone talking about older boards having been better. Were they as structured as this one? I mean I get wanting to be organized but reading the "Read First" was like a not fun first day of school. Takes some spontaneity out of posting new stuff. I don't I was never bothered by 100 ultrasound posts on my other board. Its just people being excited. I guess all the rules feel against that kind of excitement. Meh.
@darkfyre The first day of school isn't supposed to be fun. We're all still excited when people post in the Ultrasounda thread. This way, it's streamlined so there aren't 100 of the same exact thread. This way, we don't miss out on threads about losses or questions in the MOTN about other experiences when you're not getting a call back from the doctor quickly enough. And I don't really think anyone was talking about the boards of yore being better in terms of organization. The reason it's like this now is because of the sheer chaos that once was. I think they were better because there weren't as many SS's complaining about how mean everyone is, snark was on point, and admin was less ban happy. Not to sound rude, but if you're looking for spontaneity and excitement, a pregnancy board isn't really where you're going to find it. Maybe try a Facebook group? I know that me and the vast majority of the women here are looking for support and connections with women who are walking down the same path. We're still excited about the new ultrasound pictures, but none of us need a dedicated thread just for our little black and grey blobs.
I'm just soaking it all in. I'm new to these BMB so I'm just feeling it out. I think at least the disagreements I've been in regarding race or gender/sex I think have been pretty respectful discussion agreement. I'm still a little disappointed bout that bro culture because I find internal misogyny really depressing especially when it's the context of women voicing their opinions which historically has been deemed as catty etc instead of just disagreement. Guess I'm still in my feelings about it because I'm having a girl and I want all the good things for her. I want her to be able to express her opinions and disagree and not be called catty for it. I feel frustrated because I kind of could see both sides but then I saw the convo devolve into self victimization and I was like uh why
My uo: women are awesome cis trans all shapes and sizes and I'm annoyed that we have high profile figures on the national stage that keep saying they respect women (men and women both) but are super quick to excuse really sexist behaviors. Anyway in my feelings about sexism when I find out my bbgirl is just trying to grow and survive and this world out here isn't always worthy of girls
I agree with @vvitchhazel, @darkfyre. Personally I could care less about anyone's ultrasound so I like that they're in their own thread that I can skip over! But I can also appreciate that if you LOVE seeing ultrasound pics it would make it even easier to follow them all - in one singular thread.
On the TV topic, Seinfeld > Friends, but Curb Your Enthusiasm > Seinfeld. I never got into Friends. I guess that relates to my UO: I'm kind of a TV snob, especially when it comes to sitcoms. For a long time now, I hardly find any network TV sitcoms funny. They are predictable, cheesy, mostly commercials, just bleh. I feel like I lose brain cells watching them. I'm not opposed to mindless TV; I like some mindless reality TV. I don't know what it is...not my type of humor, I guess?
My UO is that I'm tired of the word "snark" around here. I've never heard it used so much in my life, and I think by definition I'm a pretty snarky person. How's that for snark? hehe
But I honestly can't think of a better word to replace it with so I'm just kind of an unhelpful jerk.
darkfyre I loved my march16 BMB and it was absolutely well-organized and very structured. I think the difference was maybe there were more active users so it felt a little busier? And I understand that this board culture isn't for everyone and I do see how the structure can be off-putting for some, but just take a look at the view counts on the discussions. They are pretty freaking big for the amount of people actively posting here. That means there are a lot of people lurking and of course "drive-bys" so to speak. From what I've seen after participating in the boards for a while is that it kind of becomes a slippery slope when you loosen the reins on board organization. You'll get TONS of drive-by one off discussions, post and ghosts, etc. and that wouldn't be a problem if it didn't drive the actual participating members of a board away (it does **ETA just take a look at the tri boards!! they used to be popping and they are a dead zone now. I think P&G and people using it as google was probably to blame end ETA***). It gets old to be used as Google by "strangers" so to speak (non-active or particpating board members). And it gets frustrating to wade through those one off posts while in the meantime maybe you missed a good discussion on breastfeeding tips because you didn't see that discussion because of board congestion.
IMO board organization is a necessary evil. If you let up a little, it really emboldens people to kind of just go on a free for all. Again, this is just all my opinion and my experience. Everyone here is different but I think while this particular BMB was being "formed" or shaped, the majority of those participating spoke up in favor of organization.
But that doesn't mean that people can't start discussions beyond the "weekly" checkins or UO/MBF/FFFC, etc. I think the general consensus is just don't start a new thread if something of that nature already exisits. IE - someone mentioned having BHs already. She is a STM, but if she were a FTM and confused, that would have been a good post for the already existing, pretty active Symptoms thread. On the other hand, a user just got a screening back about a possible elevated risk for a something genetic. We aren't monsters, she posted her own thread (again, IMO, rightfully) and got helpful responses. If the theoretic BH poster would have done the same, she would have likely been directed to the Symptoms thread. I think it just comes down to using your best judgement, and if for some reason your judgement was wrong, know that redirection is not shaming or hatred or women being catty, it's just attempting to keep the board functional and orderly.
/Meh whatever. It just seems overly top down for a social situation. (I have done a lot of boards over a lot of years this is a first that was quite this organized) I'll come to like it or not. But my point was there seems to be a lot of complaining about how lacking this board is and I was wondering if maybe that was a reason.
@darkfyre - Additionally, if you look at other BMBs, they are just as structured (and some even more so) and they don't have run really smooth and don't have engagement problems. This type of setup is pretty standard for The Bump's BMBs.

I think Seinfeld is funnier than friends, but I think I enjoy Friends more overall.
