Convertible carseat

Can anyone recommend a good convertible car seat that has great safety ratings and value. I'm looking at the Graco contender 65 because of its value. I'm also willing to spend more on the britax marathon or boulevard or chicco next fit if it's a lot better. Has anyone used these?

We had a Graco My Ride 65 for years with my son. It was great! I don't understand spending more on a carseat like Britax b/c all carseats have to meet the same safety regulations.
