Weird. I was told full bladder for 12 week NT scan, but every time since then they've had me empty bladder first (16 week early AS and 18 week measurements scan - they get measured every two weeks). BTW the tech could clearly tell the gender at 16 weeks, so I wouldn't worry about it being an issue any later.
My long AS is on Thursday and scheduled for two hours cause of twins. They have the mounted TV so we can watch the whole scan, the sonographers have been chatty so far, and the MFM comes in right after to say that all looks fine.
I saw my OB this week and told him I was having my AS next week when I'll be 19 weeks and some change he was surprised they scheduled me this early. He said typically I don't recommend until after 20 weeks and he just warned me that they may not be able to see everything and that I may need to come back. As long as I was okay with that I could have mine at 19 weeks. I thought AS could be done anywhere for 18 weeks onwards... Did anyone else's Dr's advice as such? Now I am wondering if I should postpone but then I think I rather just go twice than postpone.
With my son, I believe I was 18 weeks and change, and I actually did have to go back, they couldn't see his spine clearly enough. I don't know if it was because it was early, or because he was uncooperative. The wait was torture since his spine was the thing I was most nervous about (I have a milder form of spina bifida)
With this one, my ultrasound will be done by the high risk doctor who absolutely will not do them prior to 20 weeks, which is fine with me. I'll be 20w 2d.

@safinn21 BTW my OB told me that if everything looks normal they will just let me go home but if they see anything that needs a discussion they will call him and he will discuss the results with me. So I am hoping I dont have to see him at all on Monday!! But however with my son when I did his AS at 20 weeks they told me to wait and then a random OB walked in and looked at the scans again and then told me everything was ok. Not sure if that was routine at that place and this is routine here so I think every hospital/OB place has different protocols.
This happened to me too! I got no results the first time other than the sex, just the request to come back. At the second one, the tech brought me out to a little room (that had literally nothing but a comfy chair, a little couch, and a box of tissues - obviously felt like a bad news room) and made me wait there for what felt like forever, and then some rando doctor came in and told me he was fine. Uh thanks.

My ob won't do them until 21 weeks. It's not as torturous this time since we had the NIPT and already know gender. The office always schedules an appointment with the OB immediately following the ultrasound to go over results.
I had my anatomy scan today at 18w3d. They were able to get a good look at everything except the heart. The whole scan took about 30 minutes. TW in spoiler.
They found that the umbilical cord had only one artery instead of two. They will be following this closely for the remainder of the pregnancy. Some of the risks are IUGR (size looked good), kidney issues (all looked good), heart issues (what they could see looked good but we go back in 2 weeks), Downs Syndrome (offered the amnio- we were low risk for this on the NIPT so will decide after the re-scan of the heart, and increased risk of still birth. I was upset for a while after the scan but choosing to be positive and glad they will be monitoring closely.

Just got done with our AS - everything looks good! Baby was super bashful and kept covering it's little face with it's little hands. We went in team green but we're pretty sure the tech slipped at the end because she referred to it as Baby the whole time except at the end she says "well, she is weighing 14 oz right now!...or he!"
@mparm91 yay! So glad it went well. I have to wait until July 6th. It feels so far away. My ob said it would just be like what a lot of you are saying where they won't tell you anything and I have to wait until my 24 week appointment to talk to the ob about it. They did say someone would call to tell me everything was ok after they get the results.
@mparm91 Eh, that doesn't necessarily mean it's a girl. My tech called the baby a "he" the entire time and I'm having a girl. I've heard a lot of techs treat it like writing - if you don't know the sex, assume it's your own. So they probably pick one sex and call all babies that unless they know otherwise.
@angkay711 i actually got to meet with my OB shortly after the US tech was done to talk about how everything was looking. I don't think I could wait to hear! @baby3forme I think I found it weird because she suddenly switched from "baby" to "she" Either way we're still very excited!
@ShePersisted Not sure, but I know my OB won't schedule an A/S before 20 weeks...something about the further along, the more "clear" things are.
My 20 week mark is my birthday and I had to push to have them fit me in because originally they wanted to do it the following week. I just really wanted it to be my "birthday gift" so hoping that it will be clear what the sex is at that time.
@DuchessOfCambridge That's interesting. I have asked, and each time they said having a full bladder didn't matter (for trans-vaginal and abdominal). They just said to be well-hydrated.
@dragonfly87-2 my 20 week is also almost my birthday. That is funny. We are team green so I am just hoping for a great/ healthy scan for my birthday. Hoping you get a clear picture though
@KT&John (can't tag you) - I'm sorry to read that, but it sounds like you're going to be in good hands and it's really promising that everything right now looks as good as possible! I was in yesterday at 19+0 and the tech spent a lot of time getting good heart images because the chambers can seem to blend together. Keep us posted.
Had my A/S yesterday and it went well. It lasted about 35 minutes and we spoke with the doctor after - they had us scheduled with the doctor 20min after the u/s but we ended up seeing her about an hour after. During the wait I started to wonder if something might be wrong because it was taking her awhile to call us back, but it was all good. The tech did speak during the scan, and we were able to watch the whole thing, but she only confirmed a few things verbally - she wouldn't make comments about whether things looked "normal" or "all good" except that she told us the cord had two arteries. She explained everything else she was seeing but was more like "here's the diaphragm" rather than "the diaphragm looks good". I asked her questions anyway, particularly about what angle she was viewing because it was sometimes hard to follow. Asked her cervix length and about my placenta placement/etc., kind of neutral things. It was a relief then to talk to the Doctor after and have her go over the pictures with us. Even though I was only at 19w, they were able to see everything they wanted to. I do feel as though if you're further along certain things would become more apparent - perhaps spina bifida or club foot? Or, it's possible that if you're further along, certain features better predict outcomes - such as cervical length or amniotic fluid levels. For example, my Dr said that with my current cervical length, it's unlikely for me to deliver before 34 weeks. This might be even less likely if this was observed at 21w instead of 19w. I'm just hypothesizing here so take it with a grain of salt, but from what I experienced yesterday it makes sense why doctors might want to wait while others are fine after 18w. I'm curious to read about everyone else's experiences!
Had our AS today at 19.2 weeks. They could see everything so does not look like we will need to repeat which is so great. The total scan took almost an hour to see everything from head to toe. The tech walked us through what she was looking at while she took pics and we got to hear the heart beat. She said that we would get a detailed report later from the attending dr but she saw no red flags so far but needs to be evaluated by the dr. The fact that she did not feel the need to call my OB gives me great relief. So all in all a great exp. and we got to see a really active little girl in my belly. She was moving so much that I am shocked I don't feel her much yet. Oh and we could clearly see in the scan that baby is indeed a girl :-)
Thanks @ElizabethSchuyleri I am so glad to have you group of ladies for support. It was a roller coaster and I feel like shouting on top of roof tops about my baby now that the scan is done.
So grateful they let me empty my bladder after tenish minutes. Luckily the tech warned me ahead of time that the doctor would see us right after the scan or I would have been worried. Doc said it was the best scan of the day and everything looked great and healthy the tech put gender on a piece of paper so we'll find out when we get home! (Currently in line at the RMV )
Oh and I have an anterior placenta which Im a bit bummed about. At least now I know why I'm not feeling anything.
I had my A/S on Thursday and everything looked good but I got a call today from the nurse letting me know that I have to have another A/S in 3 weeks. The tech wasn't able to get a good enough picture of the entire spine because baby was sitting breech way down low. She warned me that I might have to redo it so I was prepared for that. We were able to see the entire spine during the ultrasound and it looked great. However, the nurse said my amniotic fluid also seemed to be low and she wants to recheck it. I googled (why did I do that?!) low amniotic fluid and honestly it all sounds bad (besides being dehydrated which I know I am not). Anyone have any experience with this? I'm freaking out on the inside.
@ShePersisted Nope, she doesn't talk about anything serious over the phone. Unless you're in labor. @kissthesky32 They want to wait 2-3 weeks to see if the levels change. So basically they're saying it's low but could change so it's basically a waiting game.
@baby3forme This is anecdotal, but I've had a few friends need to come back due to concerns about low amniotic fluid, and by the time they are scanned again it has resolved. Hoping this is the case for you!
I had my AS today and it all seemed entirely routine. All the baby's measurements came back good. The whole thing took about an hour. I saw the same tech who did my NT scan and she's just fantastic. At the end the doctor came in and checked her measurements and did a quick scan looking everything over and confirmed what they both were seeing, and that was that I got like 20 pictures, both 3D and 2D, and a short 3D video burned to a disc.

I had my A/S today at 19+5! The technician had no trouble seeing everything, except that the baby kept moving. My advice for ultrasounds in general is too not make yourself super uncomfortable with drinking a ton of water and having a super full bladder. A moderately full bladder works just fine, and that's what I've done every time. The scan took about 45 minutes for me, and if I had been bursting at the start I couldn't have done it. The technician narrated everything she did so we knew what we were looking at (even spleen and kidneys!). Then the doctor reviewed the pictures and the technician relayed that everything looked good. It was such a relief and joy!
Had mine today. Everything was fine. She only weighs 11oz at 19.2 weeks so they told me to come back in 4 weeks for growth check. Otherwise everything else looked fine. Very excited!
Going absolutely batty with anticipation. For the first time in five pregnancies, I've made it to the anatomy scan. In just twelve hours, I'll get to see my little bean on the big screen, and the butterflies are in high gear for sure. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I go on vacation for three weeks on Friday so we scheduled ours for tomorrow. Haven't gotten any remarks from the doctor about it being too early on my end but hey we'll see. We already got the sex and the results from the NIPT so this is just to be absolutely sure everything looks okay!

We had ours on Tuesday but won't be able to talk with midwife about the results until next Tuesday. Of course I am irrationally worried about baby even though the tech was completely neutral and took what seemed to be a normal amount of measurements, etc. The last picture she took was of the upper lip though and I swear it almost looked like baby had a cleft lip. It's probably nothing and if it is something we will handle it. I wish I could have talked to the midwife right away though. Meh. I will feel so much better when we have our next appointment.
@kalenp don't worry about it! If I try to analyze my ultrasounds too closely I always end up finding something "wrong"...but the doctor always says everything is fine! Ultrasounds are really hard to tell what's what. I also think the doctor would call you sooner if they noticed something wrong.
I also was told to goblin with a full bladder and when the tech started the ultrasound she actually said "whoa, your bladder is so full, are you ok?" I laughed and ssid sort of. She had to stop the scan because she said it was too big and she knew I had to be uncomfortable. After my horrible experience with my last OB I found this practice very friendly and the midwife was so kind to DD who got to go with me for the scan. I'm very happy I chose to look for someone new!
Long story short, everything looks good, baby seems to be a healthy, 10oz BOY !!!!??!!
Just got out of mine. Everything looked great, and on track by size for the EDD. Baby was not moving around much, which was good for pictures but not so good for the little video of baby movement that they record. My husband got to hear the heartbeat for the first time (extra special, as today is his birthday).
Team green mom's- one thing I really appreciated is that the US tech told me from the outset she herself has only sons, and tends to defer to he/buddy in all ultrasounds regardless of gender. She was otherwise great at letting us know when to look away and when to look back.
We had our A/S on Tuesday. Baby A kept his/her legs closed and wedged down in my cervix so we were not able to find out but Baby B is 100% a boy! I suspect we have twin boys on our hands but my husband thinks boy/girl twins. Our daughter is hoping for a sister so she's with my H but everyone else thinks two boys. Their measurements and heart rates were identical (but we have no idea if they actually are identical or not as they're di/di twins (separate sacs and separate placentas) and we won't know unless they are boy/girl (always fraternal) or until birth (fraternal if they look very different) or with a DNA test if they look alike).
so our house right now is girls - 1 boys - 2
We have a repeat AS next week to finish up measurements because after 2 hours they gave up lol Hopefully Baby A will cooperate then!
I had my A/S yesterday morning at 8am and everything leading up to the actual scan went hilariously wrong. Woke up at 6am to start drinking the 32 oz of water I had to finish by 7am, barfed all of said water up by 7:15am, had to change and wash up obviously, raced to get to the appointment only to forgot our doctors order for the scan, BEGGED receptionist to give us time to grab it, she gave us 15 minutes so I made DH speed home to get it, and he made it back with 4 minutes to spare!
Even though I had mostly lost all the water I drank, we were able to get great measurements and readings! Baby girl is measuring exactly as far along as I thought she was (my midwife used my LMP to calculate it as Nov 11th, but I had a pretty good idea of when we conceived), so now we're at Nov 14th! Her arms and legs were crossed for most of the scan but then she did this big, beautiful stretch and we could see her little feet dancing and my heart grew 3 sizes. Babies are pure magic.
I'm on my bestie babymoon so I'll be back around these parts next week. Congrats to all of you mamas seeing your babies this week! I hope it's all good and healthy news for you and little one.

They took a urine sample before the scan and I still thought I would burst, so I can't imagine you ladies going in with a full bladder!
Also even though I was referred out, a doctor still came in and went over results with us. Which was nice. But the tech was really helpful too.
