Baby Names

Girl name help!

We're still struggling with a girl name for baby #2. Dd1 is Elaina.
The names we have been leaning towards are
Nora (my cousin has a daughter named-Lenora and I can't decide if that's too close. We don't see each other horribly often. But this name has been my favorite.)
Cecilia
Isabella (dh loves just Bella as a name)
Wren
Open to suggestions for other names as well. We prefer older names but would also rather it not be top 10. Yet I guess I'd rather pick a name I love if it comes down to popularity level...
Thank you!

Cecilia!  I wouldn't avoid Nora if you love it just because of the cousin with a similar name. But overall I think Cecilia goes better with Eliana.
  • Loading the player...
  • Another vote for Cecilia! Love it.

    next would be Nora.
    DD: Ophelia 5/18/15
  • Nora and Cecelia are my favorites.
  • Love the name Bella! Helps that DH likes it too
  • Cecilia!

I would personally avoid Nora with a cousin Lenora. Iits just very close, especially if last names are the same.

But also Nora sounds a bit simple compared to Eliana.
  • Nora - the similarity to the cousins name is not close enough to make any issue in my head at all. Currently at #36 if that's popular enough to matter.
Cecilia - really like this. Less popular than Nora. But some sites say that it means "blind" if stuff like that matters to you.
Isabella (dh loves just Bella as a name) - this is the most popular name. I'd exclude it for that reason.
Wren - nice, but I like the other names ending in "a" better because of your other daughters name.
  • @sapphiredays We just recently noticed the 'a' end to the names haha, but all the women in dhs family end in a, not intentional either. So we thought it was a cute way to keep it going.
@Bringmemylongswordho luckily our last names are different, so that helps but it still bothers me a little?

Dh does have a great aunt named Cecilia as well, which we almost forgot because she goes my Kay anyways, her middle name.

I do love the name Bella or Isabella (my grandmother was Isabelle) but the popularity of it is so high, plus does anyone think the twilight reference is still strong? Haha.
I think I'm starting to overthink it all.
  • Does your cousins daughter go by a nickname and is it Nora? Will you daughter and Lenora see each other more than three times per year? Other than extended family do you know mutual people?

For me, if "no" is the answer to the above questions, I wouldn't give the similarity in names another thought and use Nora if I liked it.

Id have no desire to have any connection to twilight. But that's just me.

But if you like isabell or Bella, there are tons of alternatives.

Arabella, Annabella, amabella, avabel, Bellamy, mirabella, rosabel, cleobella...(Belle or Bella ending for all of those).
  • I think twilight is not a thing anymore and especially in your daughters generation. I like Gabriella as an alternate to get Bella

  • I really hope twilight will just keep fading away. I always loved the name Isabella with the connection to my grandma so was considering using it as a MN but since DH loves it, it made the first name list as well.
  • I personally prefer Cecilia, but if you love Nora you should use it. I would only worry about the similarity to Lenora if it were your sibling's child vs your cousin's. If the girls only share great- grandparents I don't think it is that big of a deal.
