Oh @madspunk big huge hugs coming your way from me. That's pretty much a terrible situation to be in and I'm so sorry you were forced to choose. I always had 3+ mature looking follicles (Hell, on the last IUI I had 5, potentially 6) and choosing to move forward or not was something I definitely had to consider. I hope the TI works and one of those eggs gets fertilized AF.
Thanks @adirat!! That was very interesting and helpful reading! It sounds like they live at least 12 hours, given the recommendation to do IUI 24 hours after the first positive OPK, which would still leave a pretty big window of unknown for when the egg is going to drop. Thankfully, that timing would be consistent with my own experience with having a positive the day before (and usually a positive the day of) O. You just made me feel a whole lot better!
@madspunk Thanks! I'm so sorry you had to make that decision. FX that TI is what you need!

Going to do my best with the comments but please know I have been reading and cheering, the beginning of this week just kind of bit me in the butt.
@madspunk I'm sorry you were faced with (yet another) decision. That has to be the worst part of IF. Decisions and second guessing, and real information vs Dr. Google vs. the hope story from your mother's sister's, cousin's uncle's neighbor. I hope you get some smooth sailing soon.
@KristoKekerooni so many hugs. Just when something looks do-able, something else smacks you in the face! Go for the DD posts as often and as long as you need to. Though no one understands exactly your situation, we are all sympathetic/empathetic ears
@magnolia131 though we are unhappy you are still here, it is good to hear from you. You are in my thoughts
@antoto sorry your stomach is being a B, but my FX so hard for your reports as they come in.
@leekat14 ugh. that just sicks. So Sorry and so many hugs. Here is hoping the eggs are strong
@lulu1180 Sorry about your anniversary. I got AF on mine this year on my anniversary (3 years married) and just about lost it
@laurad75 you get an actual award for not punching anyone in the face. That is terrible.
@heatherdubrow your whole schedule for this next few weeks is absolutely exhausting just to read. You are such a badass taking all of that on at once. Amazing!
@adirat happy you have a medical team that is so willing to work with you. still have FX AF to bring you to a spot where you can start trying again
Diagnosis (If you've been): nothing formal, low AMH and DH had a couple of sub-par SA
Cycle/CD: 12, 19
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): TWW
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) IUI was Sunday. tested trigger this morning, still there but definitely light so I am hoping it is gone in a couple days or so
How are things going? you know, all of the ups and downs- we were supposed to BD (dr's orders haha) the night of the IUI but I was beyond uncomfortable and just couldn't do it. So obviously I think that ruined our chances, then I google "how long after IUI did you have pregnancy symptoms", Then I assume all of DH's sperm had three heads and the morph made the IUI impossible, then I look at pinterest for cute nursery ideas......... so, you know, TWW.
Any questions? nope!

Fertilization update! Of the 21 eggs they collected - 20 were mature and 17 fertilized with ICSI.
I knew I had a ton of eggs, but I truly did not expect so many to be mature. At my last monitoring appointment some of them were still 13/14. I really didn't expect more than 10-12 of them to be mature. Shows you how knowledgeable the REs are! I'm so damn thankful!
@madspunk Sorry for the hard decision, hope this is encouraging to be reminded of (if not just ignore) but if you got KU before from TI, it can happen again. Your not out, there is hope. FX for you and sending you all the positive vibes for the perfect sperm and egg match and the stickest of beans.
@antoto those are amazing numbers! 17 fertilized! Happy dance for you!
@WillRunForWine21 Happy your IUI went smoothly, we didn't get our TI in either, so our "egg" are all in one basket, so I can relate to the back and forth of the reasoning. I hope you find some ways to distract yourself or occupy your mind so you don't go BSC! Its just a few days!
@kiki75 I am happy you have a plan that you feel comfortable with and are moving forward! Juggling calendars is always part of our stress too, so I am happy it is lining up for you!
@TravelingCouple so sorry to hear you didn't get the house. bummer! I hope you find another that you love even more and find it soon!
@KristoKekerooni I am sorry you find yourself feeling so stuck, thank you for being real and open about your feelings. IF sucks, no matter what your path looks like, but it is hard to be stuck. I hope you find yourself moving down the path soon, so you can have new hope again. In the meantime, feel all the feels and try to find opportunities to celebrate joy when you can.
Diagnosis (If you've been): large uterin fibroid through all layers of my uterus. Cannot be surgically removed. No meds to shrink it. So the baby has less room to implant if that happens.
Cycle/CD: 5/17
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): TWW
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) no treatment available for me. They are looking at some things being done with ultrasound machines and heat waves.
How are things going? Not great. I get pain from the fibroid. Cycle 5 isn't looking great cause I already have pressure.
Any questions?

@antoto Super joyous happy dance for you and your 17 fertilized eggs! That is so awesome! All the supplements and work you've been doing for quality eggs must have paid off!
thanks everyone for the support today. It means a lot. I am just love titting for now but will be back later this week when I'm not mobile.
@madspunk so sorry you had to make that decision @antoto yay for your eggs!!!!!! That's so exciting! @AshleyB09042015 I'm sorry you find yourself here and for the pain you're in. What kind of doctor are you seeing and what tests have they run?
So I'm trying to not get down but knowing there are only 5 follicles is depressing...last cycle there were 5 at one point that turned into 4 that were eventually 2 that disintegrated. It's so hard to be positive. I'm trying to meditate and talk to my ovaries but obviously in the end it's not going to make a difference. Ugh.
@antoto so excited for all of those fertilized!!! Best news ever and totally worth the discomfort.
@KristoKekerooni and @BusinessWife I GET YOU. We stopped trying after our diagnosis too. It was so much less stressful to just know that we won't ever get knocked up through good ol' sex and give up trying and peeing on sticks, and monitoring every damn thing going on in my body. It is really hard to just be hanging out knowing that you aren't "actively" doing Meds/TI/IUI/IVF but at the same time you genuinely care about the women in this group and really do hope they get to move on. But I do get it where you really hope to be that magical unicorn that gets pregnant naturally even though you were given a ZERO percent chance of ever getting pregnant without all sorts of intervention. Hugs girls.

That's a great plan @JuneRoseRuby :) everything you saud is so true. We had been trying to enjoy fw just bc .... last cycle was grest actually! Today I've got EWCM and we still have zero timing and it makes me sad even tho we have zero shot. Lmao. Hopefully just one more full cycle left for us before the action happens...
And my cycles are not that long so that helps. But last cycle we were looking at cd1 falling on his retrieval. Now it's looking like possibly cd3... but if I O real early again and it's any more than that, I am hoping to find out about the possibility of getting my cd3 bloods in that same week regardless, even tho we won't exactly know yet if we have sperm.... rather than have to wait out another whole cycle before we start my end of things. Eeep! Trying not to worry and just cross that bridge if/when the time comes....
Gosh it is so hard to keep up with this thread! I am reading and attempting to remember to love tut, even if I can't actually respond!
@KristoKekerooni, @BusinessWife, @JuneRoseRuby. Yes. To everything. I really feel like I'm just hanging out in this room full of people who are actively doing something, like I'm the Wal-Mart greeter or something. Some of our delay is self inflicted (H rrreeeaalllyy should've finished the next stage of his testing at least a month ago) but some of it is out of our control. I struggle with how much time/money/effort we put into seeing if we can find a cause for his issue v just moving on to ART. Especially since it could all be useless. We may find a solution to his problem only to actually focus on my issue and learn that we have to move on to ART anyway, and how much time is that going to waste? It's a regular series of mental gymnastics that I struggle with.
@antoto, holy crap, 17, that's fantastic!!!!! I hope those cramps get out of there soon!
@TravelingCouple, hugs girl. I'm sorry you lost the house. That sucks so bad and totally drains you when you're house hunting. But you're right, you will find the one!
@zwink1@BusinessWife@JuneRoseRuby - I am so thankful for ya'll. I know you guys get it. I'm glad that even if I am sitting here, idle, I at least am in good company (though feel free to be a SS and move on, I won't hold you back!). I am completely obsessed with numbers and tangible evidence (maybe I should have been an accountant instead of a chemist), so I've been like, obsessively tracking what cycle and CD I am on, because that tiny bit of forward movement toward ART/BFP is almost comforting. Almost, because it's also frustrating how a single day, when you are looking at a year in total, is just so tiny. I guess keep keeping on, right ya'll?

@madspunk so sorry you had to make such a difficult decision. FWIW I think you made the right call FX you get KU with TI and never have to make a decision like that again!
@antoto OMG I'm SOOOOOOO thrilled that things are going so well with this whole IVF process! Girl you deserve all the awesome embies!
@WillRunForWine21 hey sometimes the TI just doesn't happen. That's certainly happened for us, and I know it's hard to not beat yourself up. And, we're looking at doing our first IUI - I'm already a basket case in the TWW so I can't imagine how awful it is after IUI. Hugs girl!
The first step in our plan is to complete my testing (he didn't want to do CD3 blood work on CD5 - oh well). I may be able to have a HSG Friday and at least do the other blood work later this cycle. Then I'll do the CD3 stuff next cycle. He wasn't overly concerned about DH's previous SA, and didn't feel that it's absolutely necessary to do another SA since they'll essentially do a SA when/if we do IUI anyway. I go back and forth on this; I mean, if his SA improves we'd still likely move forward with IUI, and if it was worse we'd still try at least one IUI anyway.
Anywho, in the interest of saving money, and provided all of my tests come back normal, he feels like we can try a couple non-medicated IUI cycles. So, as of now, the plan is to complete my testing this cycle and then try an unmedicated IUI next cycle (assuming all of my tests are normal). I'm excited, but of course nervous.
For anyone who's been following along, this RE is only at my "local" clinic 1-2x per month, and his home clinic is 3.5 hours away. They have a partnership with the local hospital/clinic (still 70 miles away), so all of my testing and even the IUI can be done there. However, he was honest enough to admit that he'd prefer any actual IUIs to be done at his home clinic so that he can oversee them. Partially because they do IVF out of that office and therefore have all sorts of "fancy wiz-bang equipment" (his words) to prepare DH's sample that the local lab doesn't have. So, that's what we'll try to do.
So, at this moment I'm trying to schedule my HSG, and then I'll be contacting the fertility clinic's financial department to see if I can get some solid numbers of what everything will cost. I do have IF coverage through my insurance, but not until we meet out $4000 deductible. So, most of this will be OOP.
Question: does anyone have any tips for dealing with work and the multiple appointments needed for IF testing and IUI? My work situation is a bit unique in that I only have one co-worker, and I work for a Board of Directors. So, I don't really have a "boss". I'm also salary, but don't have benefits through my work aside from 7 days paid vacation. This is also a really small town, so I'd rather not spread the word about our IF situation. But I'm not sure how I would be able to get around telling my co-worker and and one board member...
@lund the work-IF game is difficult. I simply told my boss and immediate co-worker that I have a lot of appointments that wont have a lot of scheduling flexibility coming up. Oh and I'm not dying. They sort of left it there. I have sick and unofficial comp time that I can use but I've also been really on top of making sure I don't get behind on anything. Good luck, it's never as bad as you think it will be.
@lund I'm glad your appointment went well and that plans are in place! That's a huge step!!
For my work I straight up told people what was up. I knew people would think less of me on a professional level in my work environment. But I'm also 100% open about my IF and treatments socially as well too. Would you be able to get away with just telling them you were seeing a specialist for something and that you would have no control over the timing of the appointments?
@lund I echo @antoto and @leekat14 -- I was nervous to say anything at first but eventually I picked two people I trusted (both women with children) and said look I'm having infertility issues and may need to periodically be out of office or work from home on short notice. They were both really understanding and I was glad I told them. I didn't tell anyone I thought might judge me though.
@leekat14@adirat@antoto This might sound weird, but it's very comforting to hear that it's ok to tell a few people. I'm always unsure how much is a good idea to disclose, but it would sure be easier if I could be at least somewhat honest.
The only crappy thing is that I already have some appointments every 6 months for breast cancer screening since I'm BRCA1 positive, but oh well.
@antoto WOW 17!!! That's amazing!! And ugh, the constipation. I had four days of hard poops that terrified me. Colace did nothing, so I did Miralax despite the "dehydration warning" and it worked like a charm. And oh, the bloat that goes with it. Yuck.
@kiki75 Your RE sounds great and I love your plan. You definitely have a great attitude! Deciding to do IVF can feel daunting, but when we made the decision I felt a weight lifted, like we finally had a shot for real. I remember when we started TTC I thought we'd never have to go the IVF route, "That's just so drastic, it'll never come to that." But yeah, it did, and once we got started it wasn't as big a deal as I thought it would be. You'd also be surprised how many people do IVF around you that you never knew. It's a big, secret club
@BusinessWife Steve Madden is making those sandals again....90s nostalgia is so hot right now.
@KristoKekerooni Oh girl, the waiting game is so excruciating, I know! Treading water while everyone else is swimming by. We're here for you whenever you need to vent.

@lund I am glad your appointment went well. While I hope you never end up needing IVF, I wanted to share something with you since it sounds like you have a far drive for appointments and you might be interested in getting things out of the way or batching testing etc. So, apparently we have a BRCA mutation in our family and when we mentioned that to our RE, she suggested that if we got to IVF we may consider PGD testing to screen for that particular mutation without really telling us what the exact process was. When we got to IVF, I learned that it involved many more appointments and additional testing for both of us as well as, genetic counseling. It would have delayed our process significantly. Just something to keep in the back of your head as you move through this process. Also, I know testing is scary but you will feel so much better when it is done and you have a plan! GL!!
@lund I completely forgot to answer your question! I'm lucky in that there is a facility for me to get blood draws/ultrasounds about 30 minutes away, and I can do it first thing in the morning so I'm about an hour late for work but still arriving within a normal arrival window so I didn't raise any eyebrows. If I didn't have this situation, I'd tell whomever's job it is to track my time just so I'm not seen as "slacking." Is there someone there you trust to keep it quiet? Sometimes if you really impress how important it is to keep quiet, people will guard the secret more closely. You could also try couching it in generic terms, that you have a non-life-threatening medical issue that requires a lot of short appointments, so you'll be randomly absent.
Me: late 30s | H: early 30s TTC #1 since April 2015 RE Dx: Fibroids, surgery Jan 2016 IUI #1 and #2, Nov/Dec 2016, BFN IVF March 2017: ER - 5R/3M/3F, 1 PGS normal Polyp removed May 2017 FET May 2017 - BFP! Baby boy born 2/2/18
@saralee797-2 thanks for the info! Luckily (or unluckily depending on how you look at it) I've already met with genetic counselors because of my BRCA1+ status, and had Counsyl testing done for the other fun stuff associated with being of Ashkenazi decent. My DH is still adamant that we'll never do IVF, so we'll have to cross the PGD bridge if/when we come to it. If we get through multiple IUIs without a BFP I'll have to re-breach the subject with DH.
@eggplantface yeah I think I'm going to have to tell at least two people (my one co-worker and one of my board members), but hopefully I can convince them to keep it quiet. I already have lots of boob-monitoring appointments that they know about, so they'll all think I have cancer if I don't explain what the extra appointments are for lol.
@lund glad your appt went well and you have a plan!!
I'm hoping my period will just come today or wait until Sunday or Monday...I don't want to get it at my sister's baby shower on Saturday. I have pre AF cramps off and on so who knows. FX we may be seeing another house tonight. Waiting for confirmation from our realtor.
@TravelingCouple I'm so sorry about the house. We just finished the home buying process and had two homes pulled out from under us like that before finding the one. It's so tough. I hope something amazing comes up on the market for you right away so that you can keep moving forward!
@kiki75 First of all thank for your suggestion. Because of it I asked at my CD3 US today and it turns out my RE will be away for two weeks later this month so the soonest they can see me is 7/12, about a week after AF is due. I'm so glad I asked today and didn't end up having to wait even longer. We're okay with a couple month wait for IVF if it came to it because we just closed on a house this week and financially it helps us get our ducks in a row, but if I had to wait two months just to even set a date at all I would have been wigging out. I'm happy to hear your convo with your RE was so productive and that they were able to see where you were coming from. I'm really excited to follow your progress moving forward...
@madspunk I'm sorry that things didn't pan out for the IUI and you had to make that call. FX for you with the TI!
@WillRunForWine21 Your TWW description made me giggle. I'll have everything crossed for you!
@antoto What amazing news! I'm so happy that everything is going so well for you with this process so far.
@lund I'm so happy you feel confident with your doctor after meeting with them. The 3.5 hour drive though is not something I envy but I'd be moving mountains to do the same in your case. I also hope you are able to get the HSG scheduled without a hassle. I'm sorry that I don't have much to contribute to your question...I work from home presently and when I was teaching last fall and doing testing I was lucky that my clinic offered 6:30 am appointments for any kind of procedures so I only had to actually miss work for consults. But I think PP's have given really good advice, for what it's worth!
@antoto woohoo!!! So glad that it went so well! Yay!!!
@madspunk sorry to hear about the decision you made regarding the IUI, still crossing my fingers for you this cycle!! Btw what does HOM stand for? I'm assuming something related to multiples
@lund glad that you had you're appointment and all went well! FWIW and this is just for more information but if you're spending the money for the IUI you might want to just see how much a medicated cycle would be. We are OOP for treatment but I only pay $12 for my femara so if the cost is less than you thought and you're already paying for US, BW, and IUI if it might give you a greater chance at success and the cost is cheap it's just something to consider!!! Glad things are moving forward!
AFM so I didn't call the nurse back about the IUI and I don't think I'll get the trigger shot in time now so I think we are just gonna do femara and TI this cycle. I'm just feeling so blah right now and I am going to schedule and appointment with my RE to review all my results from 4 months ago since the midwife did that meeting and gave us no answers. Hopefully then I'll feel better about choosing treatment. My fsh was 10.8 which they said is slightly elevated and my AMH is 2.04 which they said is normal but I'd rather talk to my RE about everything and if I'm still not feeling it I might get a second opinion. Thanks so much to all of your for your feedback and suggestions!
@lund Sorry, I do remember now you telling us about testing! FWIW I think it makes sense to tell one or two people especially if it will put your mind at ease. When I finally told my boss, she said do whatever you need to do because what you are doing is way more important than what is happening here. It was a huge weight off knowing I didn't have to sneak around.
@beachbunnyxo123 you won't like this answer, but we won't be doing any additional US or BW with the IUI. I've already had one US a few months back to check lining, follies, etc., and I'll be completing the rest of the normal diagnostic BW, and doing the HSG. But for the IUI we'll essentially be timing using OPKs (which, yes, makes me nervous). But, RE won't let us do a medicated cycle without monitoring - which I agree with - but a medicated vs non medicated IUI means us paying $1900 vs $577 because of the cost of monitoring. I'm lucky that my +opks have been relatively predictable (CD13-16) and are only positive for one day. If insurance ends up covering more than we're expecting, then we'll look more closely at the medicated IUI.
Also, I think your plan to speak directly with your RE is a good one. FX you'll feel more confident about how you want to move forward after speaking with him/her.
@saralee797-2 Thanks! I think you're right about telling one or two people. I know it'll be fine, but I'm still not looking forward to those conversations lol.
@lund oh I see! Sorry about that I must of misunderstood that you were already doing the monitoring but I see what you're saying now and obviously there is no harm in doing an IUI just going to get the sperm where they need to go and if your not medicated then no need for the monitoring. Hopefully that will do the trick for you guys and save on the other additional costs!
@lund I'm in the same boat, not wanting to spend the extra money on monitoring. So we can be nervous together about relying on OPKs (and in my case, looking at my cervix using a speculum).
Actually, @adirat made me feel better about it, but it still feels risky...also, you'll have fresh sperm, so you can take comfort that they'll live a while in case you're a bit early.

That's all for now. I'll be back!
I am so thankful for ya'll.

@antoto OMG I'm SOOOOOOO thrilled that things are going so well with this whole IVF process! Girl you deserve all the awesome embies!
@WillRunForWine21 hey sometimes the TI just doesn't happen. That's certainly happened for us, and I know it's hard to not beat yourself up. And, we're looking at doing our first IUI - I'm already a basket case in the TWW so I can't imagine how awful it is after IUI. Hugs girl!
@JuneRoseRuby FX so hard for YH's next SA
So the RE appointment went well.
For my work I straight up told people what was up. I knew people would think less of me on a professional level in my work environment. But I'm also 100% open about my IF and treatments socially as well too. Would you be able to get away with just telling them you were seeing a specialist for something and that you would have no control over the timing of the appointments?
The only crappy thing is that I already have some appointments every 6 months for breast cancer screening since I'm BRCA1 positive, but oh well.

I'm hoping my period will just come today or wait until Sunday or Monday...I don't want to get it at my sister's baby shower on Saturday. I have pre AF cramps off and on so who knows. FX we may be seeing another house tonight. Waiting for confirmation from our realtor.
Actually, @adirat made me feel better about it, but it still feels risky...also, you'll have fresh sperm, so you can take comfort that they'll live a while in case you're a bit early.
