I was warned of this for 3rd time babies but I feel like I'm pulling the cord to start the lawnmower and it starts up but then peters out and I have to keep pulling it. For about the past 2+ weeks (started tracking on my app 2 weeks ago.)
Anyone know anything about getting things to continue once they have started up a bit? Last night was the first time I really thought it would be it -- they were painful and coming every 7 min, actually meeting the standard to call the midwife. But DH and I were so tired (it was about 11pm) we figured we'd go to bed first and then see if we needed to stop or continue. I did fall asleep but at 1am I was awoken in order to pee (it was really a contraction that woke me) and got another intense one before falling back asleep. Then I didn't wake up again until 5 and at that time it was just to wake up (and pee) normally -- no contractions.
As of my last check the baby is "extremely low" (it has been since Easter, more than 4 weeks ago), I'm 3cm, 50% effaced, "extremely soft," and the cervix is way posterior. I honestly don't know how the baby has been so low for so long but the cervix is so far back. Also makes the checks very uncomfortable. Luckily I've only had two; they didn't give me one at my 40w (39w1d) appointment.
Congrats @Kateriee and thank you for sharing your birth story! I remember still being in the hospital and starting to forget DDs labor - it's crazy how that works! I guess it's so we'll eventually have another one lol.
Congratulations @Kateriee! I'm glad you guys are doing well.
I've been having really intense period-like cramping and lower back pain since my sweep yesterday that seems to be coming and going. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping something is happening but so many of you have had false starts I'm not holding my breath. All I want to do is sit in the bathtub but I'm going to force myself to get up and move around.
Loving the latest announcements! I keep forgetting to ask at my appointments and I forgot again just a freakin hour ago, but when timing contractions, do you count the painfree/BH ones? I get those most of the time but occasionally will get a crampy one. I never dealt with contractions with DD until I was in labor so this is all still new and confusing to me!
Does anyone know if a fever is normal during labor? I've been having contractions all day and this morn I had an appointment 3 cm dilated and 80 per effaced. I'm still waiting to go to the hospital but I'm running a fever of 101. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm going to call my doctor in a few minutes.
@chocolatelemons I would definitely call your doctor. I don't believe a fever is normal during regular labor, however a fever in labor could indicate an infection that could impact the baby. FX it's something unrelated that is just unfortunately-timed, but I would definitely call.

I've been told that "flu like symptoms" are a sign of labour, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't include a fever, I would call and check

Oops stuck in box. Let us know what your dr say! I had a low grade fever while I was in labor with DD that they wanted to keep her 12-24hr longer post birth to be safe because it can mean infection. They didnt really explain more than that just thay they wanted to play it safe. In hindsight, it worked out nicely since I got to stay a second night and take advantage of the LCs there.
@chocolatelemons In 3rd trimester, my doctor wants me to call him anytime I have a fever. And at 101 to actually go to the hospital. If you are in labor, then yes, it is concerning since it can indicate infection.
Had a cervical check on Tuesday and am dilated to a 3 now but my cervix is still high and thick. My OB didn't use any lubricant for the check and it was uncomfortable to say the least but no spotting then at about 4:00AM I woke up to pee and had some mild spotting which was a bit odd in my eyes sEwing how long it had been since the check hapoened. Contractions started up and were about 4-6m apart according to DH's timing, but I was so tired I ended up making myself sleep through them and they've fizzled out to my normal all-day random BH. Anyone else experience spotting like that? I know it's normal to spot after a dilation check, but that long after...?
@pshaortao so my doctor ended up making me go in to the hospital since I was in early labor anyway. She was concerned about an infection. My fever went away, at home, with some Tylenol and hasnt gone back up, but here I am. They did blood work and urine samples. White blood cell count was high so they put me on antibiotics. The baby wasn't moving as much so they I wanted to get things going. They broke I my water about 8 hours ago so now it's just a waiting game.
Thanks everyone! Can't even express the joy and love we are feeling for this little guy. It's so amazing and surreal that he's here. I'll post our story at some point. He's off having his circumcision so I had a minute to say thank you and so some love titting
good of luck to those in labor today!! I hope all goes well!!
