What do you bring if you are invited to a child's 1st birthday party and they say no presents? It feels weird to bring just a card but I know they don't want 10000 toys when they already have a ton. Another friend used to say that for her daughter's party but I, and every other attendee, still brought something. Thoughts?
@kvruns maybe a gift card for some sort of food place? That way it's not another toy to clutter their house? Or even a bit of money. I know when M gets money we put it away for him. Or even a donation on their behalf??
I agree with @kristah2 on the gift card or money idea. I almost prefer getting money for LO, then I can pick out what I want or put it in his savings account.
@kristah2 I did that for DDs third birthday and only one person brought a gift even though asked not to. Honestly I was happy with people bringing nothing. And at 1 year old the kid doesn't even know what presents are so they aren't going to feel bad not opening something. If you want to be nice maybe bring a bottle of wine for the parents?

@m6agua Yes!! I lost 20 lbs within two weeks of delivery. However the last 17 lbs have been stubbornly hanging on. I'm hoping to bf for 1 year. In the meantime I'm TRYING not to get too bent out of shape about my new shape.
Anyone else here struggling with weight and body image? I am almost back up to my pregnancy weight and the most I weighed before pregnancy. I know I can loose the weight (about 30lbs), I have before doing Whole30. It's just that all the food is so good, especially sweets. Also trying to find time to cook and meal prep is difficult.
Yes yes yes. I struggled a lot with body image while my belly was all baby, and now that it's all me, I'm struggling even more. My ability to portion control and resist sweets is gone and when I tried to start running again my shin splints flared up so now I'm in PT and not being very active and my weight is creeping up more. Body image issues suck.

Not quite the same thing, but the year DH and I turned 30 my in-laws took the family to Vegas to see a couple shows and eat good food and just enjoy the sunshine. My birthday was half a year after the trip and MIL asked what I wanted. I told her to please not get me anything because I had a great time in Vegas and that trip was for our birthdays and the experience was all I needed. Later that week I received flowers from her for my birthday and it kind of ruined the day. It sounds dramatic writing it out, but it felt that by her sending the flowers when I specifically asked her not to send anything, she didn't respect me.
Obviously a kid's birthday party is not the same thing and there wouldn't be so many emotions tied to it if you do choose to bring a gift, but I think if they specified no gifts, it would be respectful to uphold it or donate to something the family cares about (local animal shelter if they have a pet, etc).
Yep sorry @leighry mine turned into Sir Chunks a Lot these past 6 weeks or so. I haven't weighed him since last week but I'm guessing he is about 15.5 lbs. he gained 1.5 lbs from month 4 to 5 which is a lot for him
B had a big coughing fit about 20 min ago and now sounds like a purring cat a few times. Dr google tells me all sorts of things. Has anyone experienced this?
I'm an idiot but his breathing freaked me out a bit so I went in there to just let him and listen. He sounded super stuffy so since he was awake I tried to snot suck and then nurse him back to sleep. Of course he doesn't nurse to slee anymore and he's up fussing.
I 100% caused this but it was freaking me out which normally doesn't happen
@kvruns LO has been purring like a cat on and off since teething and the daycare cold started. Snot sucking doesn't really help. Sometimes super humid air and Vicks baby rub does though. Hope he got back to sleep.
Does anyone else's LO love to scream? DD has been screaming nonstop lately. Not upset screaming, just ear-piercing, high-pitched screaming. I know she's just experimenting with her voice and how loud she can be, but it's driving me insane. By the end of the day yesterday my ears were *literally* ringing. DS was a pretty quiet baby, so this is, um, different ...

Goood to know thanks. It just kind of freaked me out. He did get back to sleep although I didn't

Yes S does this and it's sooooo annoying.
Is anyone else's LO starting to throw fits? S is throwing tantrums when she doesn't get her way. What is the smart way to handle? Say no or ignore and not give a reaction?
My neighborhood is having our annual garage sale this weekend - although it is supposed to rain. I posted asking which houses would have baby stuff/boys 12 months+ and my neighbor sent me a message saying she had a tub of her son's old clothes that I could look through for free. Score! Her son is 2 years older, also born in Nov, and is pretty average size so should work out with seasons.
@Ladybug2821 Yes! M did this the first time this week!We were in Babies R Us and I started to walk away from a toy he was playing with and he lost it. I was so startled I walked back to the toy but I eventually walked away again and let him scream for a few minutes before he forgot about it.
No, I'm not at all ready for tantrums! LO sometimes cries when I move him away from something he's engaged in, can't tell if the times it's happened its because I startled him when he was concentrating or if he's upset I moved him. I just try to redirect when it happens.
We have our six month shots today. I hate it, I worry all day and feel horrible.
In lieu of nursing, LO has decided to gnaw on my thumb. He is moaning and crunching away. He's not eating but he's also not chewing my nipple, so there's that.
Question (and sorry if it's been up here before, I try to read up on all the randoms but lost track, tried again, LO woke up and didn't want to try again)
When teething and putting down a date in your milestone book/ photo album or wathever it's called, which date do you use? The day you see white spots? The day you feel them (as in they stick out a bit) Or the day they are fully grown?

Me neither! I started one for our first but still have the mental note to add first tooth (11/15/2014), which means I stopped doing it around 4 months.
My mom started one for my sister and I (twins) and all she wrote in it was our birthdate and that Prince Harry was born the day after we were. She never bothered to even start one when my brother came along. It didn't seem important for me to do it either.
I have been doing a baby book for him mainly because i was recently given boxes of stuff my parents kept for me and of all of it it's the one thing I actually kept. It was so cool to read it. so I hope M will want to see his someday too.
The other thing we're doing (I thought I'd share in case someone else wanted to do so too!) is get a postcard from places we go on vacation and write a little blurb on the back about what we did. i plan to get a binder or photo album (one you can see the front and back of the postcard) and keep it for when he's older. He won't remember the vacations but at least this way he can read about it! So far we have one from Niagara Falls and buffalo zoo!
Omg I took B in to daycare late since the ILs are here. It was a mad house. It was snack time for the older kids and the cafeteria was a zoo and in his room the teacher (who I've determined I don't care for) has a baby in a bouncy seat bouncing her saying go to sleep go to sleep. Uhhhh try rocking her? I think I prefer my nice calm morning drop off and evening pickups and would rather just be oblivious to what goes on during the day. I know he said safe there and there are some loving people but it is good if I don't see what else happens haha

I specially made a babybook to leave out the dad part. I still haven't started it, but plan to

I am writing him a little letter every month on his month birthday and plan to turn it into a shutterfly book so I put milestones in there
