@bluejeanbabi05 I didn't take it personally. I just wanted to share my POV because personally, I am totally guilty of looking at a situation and just not understanding it because I can't relate. But when someone can say "hey, well, I dealt with this and this was what was going on", then I feel like I can have a better understanding and have a little more compassion. So I try to do that with my experience too.
I'll admit it, I'm a total hashtag junkie. To be fair, it's particularly helpful with my photography business, but I also do it find Instagram friends. #sorrynotsorry #hashtagsanonymous

@beezeemarie I'm also a big hashtag junkie... I was into photography a while (not a business) and in order to get a decent exposure, hashtags were the way to go!
Hashtags for marketing purposes is completely different. That's how businesses, especially small businesses, can get exposure with no cost. No flaming for business related hashtags

I had a hashtag when I was pregnant the last time just so I could find those pictures easily on Instagram. I'm glad I did it so I can easily find them now to compare my bump size.
@migdala no need to hide, all UOs are welcome here. I only have one rental property and it's not my full-time job or anything, but what works for me is charging a separate pet deposit up front to cover any pet related damage and having my property manager do a pet interview. I don't accept any cats or puppies, and I have a size limit on dogs because I have original hw floors in good condition and I want to keep them that way. I'd love to allow all the animals, but I also have to protect the investment. So I get the pet rent idea, I just don't like it.
I haven't had any issues with the pets so far, but I have had problems with irresponsible tenants who don't call when there is an issue and then it becomes a bigger issue. I used to manage the property myself but just couldn't deal with people anymore. The property management group saves me enough time and hassle and gets discounts on vendors that they are so worth it. If that's what you do for a living, mad props to you.
On to the next topic - did someone put crack on our BMB? I seriously can't stop coming back. I'm so useless at work lately and I blame all of you
I have to join in on the tree discussion. Our electric company will give you free trees to plant, with the hopes the shade they provide will save on utility bills. We got ours last fall and it was so disappointing. It had one branch. It literally looked like we just found a stick and stuck in in the ground. So we decorated for Christmas this year and called it the Charlie Brown tree.
It has leaves now so it's a little less pathetic. It should provide some shade in about 40 years.
I love the dedication to mulch around the tree haha
We had to sign this paper to get the free tree stating all the things we would do to take care of it. One was to have a three foot diameter ring of mulch.
I'm constantly worried some unmarked van from the electric company is driving by periodically to check on our tree status.
@purplestarz We got two trees from them 3 years ago and one is amazing, the other not so much. I'm talking the back yard one is easily 12-15 feet tall and will provide decent shade very soon. The front yard one is maybe 6-7 feet now and has like 3 branches. It's an embarrassment.
@dajocl oh man. Are they the same type of tree? We had an awesome tree in our backyard that came down during one of the crazy windstorms a few months back. We need to replace it bad because right now it's like, hello neighbors! I was contemplating getting a free tree or two again...but we might just shell out the money to get something decent that will grow fast.
@purplestarz They are different. The one that's growing well is called a Sawleaf Zelkova. It's a Japanese tree of some kind, I really don't remember. We got a Red Maple for the front and my husband keeps talking about going and buying something to replace it that will grow faster...
I understand why rental units charge more or don't allow pets at all. But my opinion is if renters would just be more responsible with their pets the amount of damage a pet would do would be neglible or comparable to what children do. We rented a townhouse for a year with our dog (a puppy that wasn't potty trained yet) and when we moved out they were amazed. They said they couldn't even tell we had a dog in there. It's like "Well when he peed we cleaned it up immediately and he was crated when we weren't home." And then there are the people that don't have kids or pets and destroy the place. So long story short. If more people could just be more responsible we probably wouldn't have to deal with so many pet restrictions.

I want to burn the palm tree in our front and back yards. The ones in the front shower dead palms on the roof of our house whenever it's super windy. Scares the crap out of me. My DH has an uncle who knows how to splice different types of trees together. He gave us an avocado tree with 2-3 different types of avocado, a citrus tree with different types of limes and lemons, and a straight up guava tree. We just planted those and probably won't begin to produce until we're finally ready to move out of the house.
But hey, our fig tree has been producing the last three years or so, so there's that.

@Brambles23 I would loooooove an avocado tree. Also I had no idea you could splice trees like that. Amazing. The neighbors next to us have an Orange tree that hangs over the fence so we get half of their oranges without having to take care of the tree. The neighbors behind us have a lemon tree that does the same thing but I really don't use lemons very often so it just annoys me.
@brambles23 omg I love kumquats! My parents have 2 huge trees and we get so many of them every year. I slice them up and put them on salads.

@Brambles23 I don't even think I've ever had a kumquat *snickers like a 12 year old* for real though. I don't think it's stealing (well I hope not) since it hangs on your property. If it is stealing then we stole about 100 oranges this year.
My mom always tells me about this house that's on the golf course that she plays. I guess some super old person lives there so she will go onto their property and take fruit from their trees because "they never pick it."
So we wanted a golden retriever when we got our dog, got a puppy from a breeder, paid like $600 for her. After the vet bills we've been through, I wish we had gone for those hip and knee certified breeders because I've paid over 6k in knee surgeries for this dog who used to be super sweet and personable and is now still very sweet but is anxious as anything after the surgeries. They say it probably wasn't genetic but she was 2 years old when both of her CCL's tore. A little hard to believe it was just a coincidence. So, I have no problem with rescue dogs, I don't know how comfortable I'd be bringing them into a house with small children and idk what we'd do if we got another dog. We've definitely agreed that after our current dog is gone we'll be dog free until the kids are a bit bigger but who knows when that'll happen. I'm figuring with all the hardware in her it won't be too long here (she's 7) but we'll see.
I'm also in the group of people where my dog was my baby until we had babies and now she drives me semi-insane....we're going on vacation and I'm dropping her with my mom fully knowing that she's going to get spoiled rotten and I won't have to worry about her for a week...it'll be nice!
@ac1259 I completely understand. We are going out of town next week and my dad is coming to watch the dogs. Honestly I'm so looking forward to a break from taking care of them lol
Kumquats are like miniature oranges but have a slightly different flavor as well. They are so easy to grow here too. The rind is so mild that I actually just eat the entire thing.

@ac1259 Our dog goes over to our ILs when we're out of town and it's just as much a vacation for her as it is for us. They also have a dachshund who is very lonely since their last one died about two years ago, so they LOVE being around each other. Plus my FIL gives Daisy (Our dog) table food, which we don't allow at home, and she gets to lay on their couches, which I also don't allow since she peed on ours. Daisy and their dog were both seriously depressed when we came home in March and they had to split up again.
That's how we lost our dog @sjohns908 DH and I were traveling a lot for work. One time before thanksgiving, we were both traveling at the same time and decided to leave the dog with his parents. Well they said there was no point taking him back since we'd be back within two weeks anyway, so he left the dog there. Then when we were leaving, his mom pretty much said we could have him back after Christmas instead.
Christmas came and went, and three years later that dog is her best friend. So while I do miss him it's better for him to be with the IL. We were pretty strict with him and now he lives a life of luxury.
@PizzaMonster3 I'm pretty sure if I asked FIL and it were up to him, he would take our dog. He loves her and spoils her rotten. I'm more strict just because I've seen the health of their 3 dogs they've had since I've been with dh and don't believe dogs should have human food. Plus I already have 3 kids to clean up after, I dont have time to clean up pee spots a couple times a week, so I have to restrict where she is at during the day so I can keep an eye on her. I feel like both their dog and ours would be happier if daisy lived there, but I don't think MIL would go for it
I think participation trophies are lame. I wouldn't make a huge stink of it if someone gave my son one because I think causing a scene is also petty. I was a competitive gymnast for years and early on I was terrible, I got several participation trophies and medals which were embarrassing and I threw them all in the trash. I can't remember who said something about going to nationals and getting a participation trophy, but I am pretty positive that anyone who has made it that far will not appreciate a participation trophy.
Also I have a hashtag for my son lol, but I was huge into instagram brand repping for awhile so that's really why. I also gave up on my labor and got an epidural, even worse I totally gave up and went with a c-section @carries2018

Along this line, I don't get how anyone can have a phone conversation while they're going to the bathroom. I don't even want my husband hearing me poop, let alone whoever I'm talking to. Freaking gross
I will go to the bathroom when I'm on a conference call, but only if I'm on mute. I would never do it while actually talking. I also sometimes leave my headphones/spotify/podcast on when I'm in the bathroom at work.
One more: I really hate when TV shows run low on ideas and do an all musical episode. Or black & white episode. or what if this one thing hadn't happened episode. Just get on with the plot already...
H is an airport cab driver, and apparently there is one bathroom for chauffeurs, and it is NASTY. H often has to use the one inside the airport. (although its far from where they wait in line for their next customer, not convenient cause they dont always have the time to get there and they already have another client) Back to the nasty bathroom, he doesnt dare touch the sink or sit on the stool... Oh and he says there is an inch of piss on the floor. Believe it or not he says a lot of chauffeurs not only talk on the phone in there but take their lunch break!!! They re talking on the phone with a headset while pooping and..... Eating!!!!!! I vomitted twice in my mouth just writting this down.
