Re: workout check-in 5/8

  • 1. what are your goals for workouts this week?  To make it in 3 times this week.  We're doing a Starting Strength cycle and I just reset my squat and press numbers because they were getting heavy.  Usually that wouldn't be an issue pre-pregnancy because I'd still try to add weight, but with baby I'm being super cautious.  Everything has felt fine so far.  I'm going to the gym after work today and we'll be bench pressing.  I've been getting much stronger in that than I ever had, so I'm looking forward to adding a couple of pounds to that.

    2. how are you feeling during workouts and after?  any changes?  I feel pretty good during workouts.  I notice that I'm feeling waaaaay more tired an hour or so afterwards than I used to.

    3. GTKY: what is your favorite exercise (pregnant or not)?  Right now I'm loving snatches.  Using lighter weights rather than going for broke has really helped me focus on my form.

Now that I finally have  the energy/motivation to work out I can answer this!

    1. workout goals are to try and get to at least three yoga classes this week plus keep up walking. My local yoga studio runs heated and non heated classes and I have been going to the non heated flow classes and feeling great. There is also a non heated Yin class but I've never done yin before, can anyone give any feedback?

    2. I did my first yoga class since getting pregnant the other day and felt amazing. I have been trying to keep up with walking but have found I have had trouble with sciatic pain which I didn't get with yoga yay! Plus I really enjoyed the more meditative aspect of the class way more now than when I wasn't pregnant, as I think my intentions have shifted.

    3. My fav exercise is to ride my horses, but after a nasty fall (my fault) late last year right before getting pregnant I have decided not to ride this pregnancy. it's been really hard and I really miss it

    1. what are your goals for workouts this week?
Drink more water before, during and after workouts.

    2. how are you feeling during workouts and after?  any changes?
I feel so much better post workout than before. Was traveling this past week and all classes were full at the gym by the hotel so took half the week off. Excited to get back to it.

    3. GTKY: what is your favorite exercise (pregnant or not)?
Deadlift for weightlifting and row for cardio.

@Brambles23 - barbell snatch? I always feel so uncoordinated on a barbell and a million times more comfortable with a dumbbell or kettlebell. I'm amazed by anyone who loves a barbell snatch.

    1.  My general goal is 5x a week but this week will be less. Today I took my two kids to the zoo for 3 hrs so I'm counting that as a work out! My amnio is Thursday and I'm instructed to be on bed rest so this week I may just work out Tuesday Wednesday and Saturday.

    2. I've been feeling good during work outs. I had been doing a mix of piyo and turbo jam but I'm not really feeling the piyo so last week I stuck to turbo jam. I stopped doing floor abs last week.

    3. I actually love turbo jam. I also love the Betty Rocker work outs when I'm short on time but want a good one.

@Ninak I'm so sorry about the fall! I used to ride but haven't in years.

  • 1. What are your goals for workouts this week? This week I want to workout at least three times. Maybe two runs in the evenings, and then a bike ride on the weekend.

    2. How are you feeling during workouts and after? Any changes? For the whole first trimester I had zero energy and so much nausea. So I barely worked out at all. Things are finally starting to feel more normal, so I am getting back into working out! It seems like I have less energy while exercising, but at least I don't feel like puking anymore.

    3. GTKY: What is your favorite exercise (pregnant or not)? Swimming! And doing triathlons :)

  • 1. what are your goals for workouts this week?
workout four times, oly lifting and HIIT training. i want to try to get to a yoga class on sunday too.

    2. how are you feeling during workouts and after?  any changes?
feeling good!  still slower than i used to be when running but overall good. i have stopped doing ab work that compresses (v-ups, sit-ups, etc.) but haven't made any other modifications.  six months of planking here i come lol

    3. GTKY: what is your favorite exercise (pregnant or not)?
i love to surf. miss it already! fav in the gym is running or cleans.

@Brambles23 i agree with @cram314 i am jealous you love snatches! we did them today and i feel so off-balance, which has nothing to do with pregnancy because they were rough for me before.  obviously that means i just need to practice them more i guess.

@Ninak i have never heard of yin so i have no advice.  i hope to incorporate more yoga into my routine though!

  • @cram314 and @lola4411 this is only recent-it took years for me to finally come around to actually liking barbell snatches.  Ask me about six months ago and you'd hear a totally different story.

  • 1. Goals: DO IT!! I was so miserable during first trimester that it rarely happened
    2. During workouts I feel more out of breath and get tired quicker. Also when I weight lift I have to use light weight.
    3. My favorite exercise is dancing!!
  • 1.  Goals: 2 yoga, 2 cardio, 2 strength, at least 6 miles walking, and do my prenatal stretches every night.  Try to work out in the morning so I have more energy through the middle of the day.
    2.  Workouts are definitely feeling tougher, especially the cardio.  And my boobs are so sore that any type of impact feels pretty brutal. But I feel good after and as long as I do my stretches, I don't get aches and pains like I did with my other 2.
    3.  YOGA.  Although that could change after baby.  Who knows.

  • i did yin yoga when I was running a lot and it was super relaxing. It's pretty much all stretching.
  • 1. what are your goals for workouts this week?
Get out and walk at least 5 times this week. A good motivator has been ,y bulldog/pitt mix. He's getting a little sausage-y and the vet warned us about letting him get too heavy lest his joint be put under too much pressure since he's a bit bowlegged. I also want to get maternity yoga in at least twice this week. I've wanted to for a couple of weeks but it ends up on the back burner and never gets done. I also want to get the bike out at least once a week now that it's a bit warmer.

    2. how are you feeling during workouts and after?  any changes?
Right now I'm just walking so fine.

    3. GTKY: what is your favorite exercise (pregnant or not)?
    I love swimming.

    @feeislove puppy pic please!
  • 1. what are your goals for workouts this week? Get in my yoga fast flow classes 3 times with one gentle alignment yoga class. For a total of 4 yoga classes this week. I went Monday to fast flow and today for my alignment class so 2 more to go.

    2. how are you feeling during workouts and after?  any changes? This is my second week back at it. I tried  going during the first trimester but i was so sick i couldn't keep up with it.  I was going about 4 times a week before i stopped for 2 1/2 months, but i was pleasantly surprised how strong i still was when i went back. Granted I'm no where near where I'd like to be, but I was able to keep up in class and got a sweat going. Classes are usually early in the mornings and are a little difficult to get up and get going, but afterwards i feel great.

    3. GTKY: what is your favorite exercise (pregnant or not)? I've been loving Yoga for a little over a year now... but I also enjoy running when I'm in the mood for it.

  • Ninak Yin is great! It's a very restorative and relaxing style that emphasizes gentle stretching. I think it's probably going to be perfect for all those sore preggo ligaments!

    1. what are your goals for workouts this week? Well, first of all to actually work out! I didn't feel like working out at all during my first trimester, but I'm starting to feel a lot better overall. Last night I played four rounds of 21 with my DH in the school yard at the local middle school. Today I'm planning on hitting the elliptical on my lunch break and have booked a prenatal yoga class for Thursday afternoon.

    2. how are you feeling during workouts and after?  any changes? Great now that I'm actually doing it, but it's definitely been a while.

    3. GTKY: what is your favorite exercise (pregnant or not)? Hiking, yoga, basketball, and surfing (when I can).

  • @keiraanne yay for surfing!

  • @Brambles23 thank you!

This may have been answered before but I feel like it's been a while. Any recommendations for maternity yoga videos on YouTube?

thank you everyone for their comments regarding Yin yoga! i would tag you all but I am still a Bump novice  haha  I walked past a room preparing for a Yin class after my flow class tonight and it looked so nice and peaceful with candles on the floor and the lights dimmed so now I really want to try it!!

I made it in today to finish up day 2 of 3 of the staring strength cycle.  I wanted to make it in yesterday morning, but sleep was more important.  I'm planning on making it in Saturday morning, unless my last client cancels tomorrow and I can make it into the gym after work.

  • workout today included a 2 mile run after 4 rounds of heavy squats.  i made it but might need a nap later today lol

    BabyFruit Ticker
  • @lola4411 way to go!  Running after squatting is rough.  No shame in the nap game.

  • Made it into the gym for day 3/3.  Back squats, bench press and deadlifts.  I usually stay for the group workout, but I have to be at a gig at 12:30 and usually double WODs require a decent nap afterwards.

    1. what are your goals for workouts this week? To workout daily, either walking or T-tapp video

    2. how are you feeling during workouts and after?  any changes? I'm finally getting some second trimester energy but I'm also already feeling out of breath easily.

    3. GTKY: what is your favorite exercise (pregnant or not)? walking/hiking. I live in the mountains so even just walking near my house is a lovely hike :)

  • 1. what are your goals for workouts this week?
Get in several runs.  I'd also like to try to fit in lifting weights or yoga, but I feel crunched for time with other stuff going on.

    2. how are you feeling during workouts and after?  any changes?
I've been feeling pretty good while running, although pace obviously slower.  I've been wearing a running belt/band for several weeks now to try to keep it comfortable.  I also make sure I'm not too far from a bathroom, as I'm still feeling a good amount of pressure on the bladder.
It sometimes takes some effort and motivation to get started on a workout as I'm more tired now than 1st trimester.  But I know I'll feel better after.

    3. GTKY: what is your favorite exercise (pregnant or not)?
Besides what I already mentioned, I really enjoy kickboxing and ballet.
