Sick mommys

figured we have a thread for all thing sick babies why not one for us mommys too!

I am flying tomorrow and I have something going on with my sinuses.

I cant hear through my left ear since it's blocked and my left nostril feels like it's running crazy but nothing is coming out because it's completely blocked. And my throat is so sore.
I can't get in to my doctor and we have a flight tomorrow. I'm terrified.

Anyone have any suggestions on what I can take? I know cold and sinus meds are out because of breast feeding.

I know each Dr is different but I'm allowed to take cold meds although I haven't. It may reduce supply though but shouldn't be harmful to baby.  Kellymom has some good info on stuff that might help: https://kellymom.com/bf/can-i-breastfeed/meds/cold-remedy/

I'm a fan of Emergen-C for the actual snot, a netty pot for the nose congestion and ColdCalm (homeopathic) for the actual cold.

Dedinitely bring a nose spray for the flight as it will hurt a lot if you fly with a blocked nose. (Like really bad, I unfortunately found out about that)
I should think anymay be used, otherwise use one for children.

  • I ended up calling th health line here and basically they said it will eventually loosen up and release and relax the pressure in my ear. But could take a couple days. Suggested hot showers to try to break it up in the meantime. Lucky me.
  •  @tvh1982 that's what I'm afraid of!
The health line said to avoid one particular ingredient that could get into breast milk so I have to ask the pharmacist. She isn't even sure I can get one that's safe. Here's hoping.

I would think a saline only nasal spray should be ok.
Some do indeed get advices against when pregnant, so guess they aren't good for breastfeeding. I didn't think of that.
But if you spray once with take off and once during landing, you get minimum intake. Hope the pharmacy can give you one that you are comfortable using.
If not, bring lots and lots of gum and chew chew chew!

  • My family doctor just called me (I had called at 9 this morning and left a list of my symptoms with the front desk) and they asked if I could head in around 5! No convenient with the amount of packing I have left to do but maybe she can fix me!
  • Ugh... I got a head cold. Bad cough and stuffy, runny nose. My kids have both been coughing for over a week so maybe I just got it from them and won't end up giving to them. Fingers crossed! I hate being sick. Last night I alternated between freezing and burning up. I just hope it goes away soon.
  • @rspalding001 I hope you feel better soon!! Having a cold is the worst because there's not a whole lot you can take and the symptoms are super annoying!
  • It's 4:11 and I just came down from going to bed around 10 last night  I thought my face was going to pop off, my throat hurts, and I've been coughing and sneezing. I took alka-seltzer cold after nursing LO to sleep last night and that helped immediately—like, within seconds I started feeling better. Been trying to sleep it off today. I hope one more dose and a hot shower does the trick. Super thankful for my freezer stash - though I couldn't find very helpful info re aspirin while BF at five months. Whatever. I just want to feel better!!
  • Everything pretty generally says "babies", with no mention of age. Guess we'll stick with bottle feeding til tomorrow.
  • Feel better @rspalding001 & @hoosiermama-2!
