@jab3-2 I'm happy to hear things with Evie are going well. I had to share a room off and on with one or both of my sister's when we were growing up. I definitely got some memories from it. Some are sweet, but some are more just funny now, like all the fights over borrowing clothes or waking up too early lol. I like looking back on the time we shared a room, I dont have any stories from having my own room. I'm sure they will have stories to share someday too.
I think some jealousy is normal, at least your 4 year old talks to you about it. My kids will ask to do things that I just don't feel comfortable doing with Austin, and they try their hardest to negotiate a way into it. They never said anything, but they know it's because of Austin so I'm sure they probably feel frustrated sometimes.
When our second was born, I got a lot of indoor things for our oldest to do. He loved playdough, and watercolor paintings. He also enjoyed making cards and pictures. It helped give him something that only he could do while his sister was too small. He felt special. I'm not sure if you already do those things since yours is older (Taylor was 2 when his sister was born) but maybe finding something special for her to do might help with some of the jealousy?
We are all doing well though, thanks for asking. Austin still gets up every 3 hours or less at night so I'm tired all the time. He did however start taking big 5-6 hour naps in the morning so on days that I'm not busy (like today lol) I sleep during that time. Woo hoo!!!
I got to sleep in until 6:49 this morning!!!! Woohoo! Doesn't sound like much but I've been having to get up between 1 and 4am all week so this rocks. I feel like a human!

Does anyone use anything to hold their baby up in a sitting position yet? Austin holds himself up and steady really well, but not without support. I was thinking of buying something to help hold him up so he doesn't have to be either held or lay down all the time. Sometimes when I'm cooking I don't want him in the wrap, so I just lay him on the floor, but if he could be sat up it would be a lot nicer. I was thinking about buying something like the pic below. It converts from a seat on the floor to a seat with toys, then to a booster seat. When my older kids were little, we didn't see that stuff, we had to put pillows under them in a walker to get them in something sitting up. Do you guys have any recommendations of things you have used or plan on using?

@kswiger06 we have something similar but I don't plan on using it until Rid can hold his head up better. He's younger than Austin though. What I use for when I'm cooking, doing laundry, or just need a break from holding him and don't want him on the floor is this bouncer chair: https://www.amazon.com/BABYBJORN-Bouncer-Balance-Soft-Cotton/dp/B00BQYVOKY?th=1 it leans back so it's ok if head support isn't there yet.

@kswiger06 I'm looking at something similar to @Janefelicity! Ella sits very well supported, and can keep attention with toys, so the seat I'm looking at with the tray is perfect for her.
We have the Bumbo seat for when Amelia is able to hold her head up. Right now I put her in the rock n play for the occasional times she's not sleeping or on her play mat.
I don't have a link handy and since I'm in bed and supposed to be sleeping, j won't dig around for it haha. But I want to get Wyatt a sit-me-up. The one I'm looking at is a frog at BRU and it seems like the back goes up justttttt a little high so it would be perfect for babies who can hold their head up but aren't 100% there yet
I looked into a few different things and ended up buying the summer super seat. I liked that I could use it as just a support seat, a play center, or a booster seat. It will grow with him. I bought it this evening and set it up, he really enjoyed it for a while.
@jlellis603 I looked into the sit me ups as well, but ultimately liked that this converts.
Same for the bumbo, it looked great but the other seat does the same but still converts.
Soooo a baby in LOs daycare room had conjunctivitis . Last Monday I brought him to the doctor because it looked like he may have cought it. They said oh it's just a blocked tear duct. I thought that was pretty convenient since it was going around so I applied the ointment they gave me anyway. Whelp turns out it was in fact conjunctivitis because I now have it.,.... Yay....
That must be frustrating @jlellis603! Did it clear up from your LO? I hope it gets gone and you don't end up passing it back... curious what the dr said the ointment was for if they said it was not conjunctivitis. Austin had a blocked tear duct and they said they don't do anything for it because it clears on it's own, and if it doesn't clear by a year old they will do something then, because of something about having to poke the opening.
I had a conjunctivitis story last year. So my daughter has a friend in school, whose grandparents live two doors down (lol they really do, but wording it with the band have me a giggle) that girl was out playing over there one day so we walked over to visit. That is something that happens regularly. Well after a couple hours of playing, the grandma says "ok time to head in, your mother wouldn't be happy you're still out." Then she looks at me and says "Well she didn't go to school today because she has pink eye so her mom thinks she needs to stay inside."
I just sat there thinking, thanks for letting me know after we got done playing!! Good grief.
@kswiger06 oh man yeah thanks for possibly infecting the whole house and letting me know AFTER haha.
It has 99% cleared up for him, kock on wood. It sucks for me because I wear contacts and never ever wear my glasses because my prescription is so strong. The doctor said the ointment was just in case it turned out to be pink eye. Good thing haha. My left eye had it and it's just about gone but now I feel it coming on in my right ughhh
Anybody doing anything for Mother's Day? My kids are still so little I don't need think we are gonna do anything. I just watched this movie bad moms. I highly recommend it if you have some time while the kids sleep. It was pretty funny but there were some parts I got pretty teary eyed too. Oh and I also found this, I thought it was funny.
My older kids know it's mothers day and they normally do things to surprise me. Other than that we don't do anything special. I think we are going to end up working on our landscaping lol
The only thing I did for mother's day was today. My husband took Harrison for a couple of hours and I went and got my hair done. I haven't had my hair done since my wedding, and that was two years ago. I got a bunch cut off(and the tips dyed purple), my head feels so much lighter now! It's also nice that his little grabby hands can't yank at it as easy anymore LOL.
I was just coming in to say happy Mothers Day too!! So far we have done absolutely nothing, and it's glorious!
Also this is the first year my husband remembered to get me a card from our kids... our oldest is 10!! I always complain afterward that I would have liked a card from our kids but this was the first year he actually did it (and on his own). They also got me a picture frame and we will be getting a nice picture of just me and the kids for it. Plus my daughter brought a plant home from school. I didn't get much sleep last night so I'm quite a bit over emotional and I was so surprised I ended up crying over it lol.
has anyone started weaning their baby from swaddling? I freaked out a week ago when Rid woke me from a nap with his muslin swaddle undone and pulled over his head. So I decided to only use the swaddlemes. Well two nights ago I saw him rolling in one and that freaked me out. He hasn't been able to roll over yet but he was rolling back and forth so hard I feel like it's just a matter of time and I'm paranoid it'll happen at night.
Last night I tried just letting him sleep in a sleep sack. He'd go down ok but was woken up every few minutes by his arms. So I swaddled him arms out and that helped but he still woke himself up a few times. Today he's just so sad. He's either crying, eating, or sleeping but will only sleep on me. If I lay him down tears and then less than a minute of being in my arms he's asleep. i think he's over tired.
Any advice for weaning from swaddles so they aren't super tired the next day? I know he's only 2.5 months, am I being crazy trying to wean him already? I'm really anxious about SIDS and just want him to be safe at night.

@marriedhamstermom we never swaddled so i dont have specific advice but cora has been in a sleep sack since we brought her home from the hospital & we've never had any issues. She absolutely hates blankets & will always kick them off & when she gets the sleep sack on initially, she kicks a little until she realises its not coming off then she settles and is fine.
@marriedhamstermom, I don't really have any advice, but I hope Ridley is able to sleep better!
We stopped swaddling Ella around 2 months old since she was kicking herself out of it. She was swaddled arms out ever since she came home because that's what she preferred. We went cold turkey with swaddling and she took it very well with no issues. At this point we don't even use the sleeper sack, she just sleeps in her PJs, no blanket or anything.
The problem we are having now (and it's just me being paranoid) is that she now sleeps almost exclusively on her stomach. I put her on her back every time and she almost immediately rolls on to her tummy. It doesn't matter if I put her down sleeping or drowsy, she rolls herself over. It freaks me out, but I guess there's not much I can do about it, other than making sure her crib is safe (which it is...no blankets, toys, crib bumpers, etc.).
@marriedhamstermom Definitely break him of the swaddle now, even if it does suck for a few nights! Starting at 8 weeks you should swaddle arms out since there is a chance they can start to rollover. Amelia loved the swaddleme, so to transition we did a few nights with one arm out before just swaddling with both arms out. Her arm reflex bothered her for the first few nights but we haven't had issues after that!
We stopped swaddling at about 9 weeks, primarily because she was getting too big for the Swaddleme and would break out of the regular Swaddle blanket almost immediately. It turns out she actually goes down for a nap easier without it. Her arms do wake her up sometimes, but it's getting better. I wish I had some advice! Keep at it and he will probably get used to it in a couple days.
@marriedhamstermom Austin loved being swaddled with his arms in too. When he outgrew his sleep sack with the arm swaddle flaps, I couldn't get him to sleep for anything. His arms swung and woke him up. I started weaning him by tucking half his muslin swaddle blanket under his feet, and back. Then I'd pull the other half up to his chin, with his arms inside. Then I gently tucked the two sides under him. He could squirm out but that kept his arms from going too crazy so He could fall asleep. Since it was loose he would pull his arms out during his sleep but it helped the transition. His body weight kept him from pulling it up over his face. That's how we transitioned him, but having said that, Austin sleeps terrible now that he's not swaddled. He was sleeping up to 5 hours, but after the transition we are lucky to get 3 hours. He also needs something touching his face now too. Actually I have to give him his muslin swaddle blanket to snuggle on to fall asleep, then I gently take it from him. If you end up finding something that works let me know because we are still working on it lol
We have the size large swaddmes and they just fit Rid. Last night I used one of those with his right arm out and he slept amazing! He went 7 hrs which is the longest he's gone. He even went back to sleep after his 4 am meal! He woke up in a great mood too. It's only one night and only one arm so the engineer in me isn't ready to call success yet but we'll see. My plan is to try right arm out 2 nights, left arm out 2 nights, then both arms out but still using the swaddleme for 2 nights. Then assuming those all go well try just putting him in the sleep sack. If he doesn't seem to like any of those steps we'll stay on them a bit longer.

@marriedhamstermom Great news! If he still likes the swaddles for the comfort, you can use them for as long as you'd like if both arms are out. We are using size large now but this picture was from just before she outgrew size small:
Random thought/poll I guess...Would anyone be interested if I started a new thread about solids? I think my LO is one of the oldest here and will be starting solids soon, so this might not apply to everyone else until much later. I just didn't know with how slow the board has been if I should just keep this topic within the randoms or start a new thread. It might be helpful to get advice from STM+ or FTMs going through this together lol. Thoughts?
I think a separate thread would be a good idea. I'm sure it will hold its own especially when we can't get the babes to eat their veggies plus I'm sure the bigger they get, the more questions will come around about eating big people food.
And also this my opinion and I know a lot of people still pop in occasionally but only a handful of us are currently active. I don't know if more ladies will be back once they get back to work, but at least for now, with the group that's still here, I don't think anyone will get bent out of shape over new threads being started vs keeping things in the Randoms thread.
@ColeBug89 I'd be interested in a solids thread. We started some cereal about a month ago at the suggestion of our doc to help with reflux...Harrison takes Prevacid and still has trouble refluxing. We've done some other foods but not daily. He has been VERY interested and vocal when we eat so we've given some avocado and squash. He doesn't get much and not everyday at this point. Our daughter started solids during month 4 too because she was also very interested in our food early. DH is a chef, so food is pretty important around our house so our kids have seen that the preparation and eating of food is a big part of our life.
I am all for a few threads to keep conversations organized and easier to look up what was mentioned before.
Henry is still swaddled in a Halo sleep sack. He's getting big for it (he's 3.5 months and still can fit in the 3 month one). He loves his arms swaddled at night. Last night we tried the one arm swaddle. He didn't fall into a deep sleep as quick and he was a little more fussy. Oh and he woke up an hour and a half early.
Edit because the bump ate my post!
The parenting group through the hospital we gave birth at starts tonight! We picked a night class so both DH and I can go. I'm super excited!
Oh, it just occurred to me, as Henry just moved up to size 2 diapers, do diapers expire?
We order diapers (Pampers) off Amazon's subscribe & save. We have one unopened box and a handful of diapers from the opened box. We were just going to store them for baby 2 that we intend to have in a couple years. Is this a good idea? A google search says they don't expire but some posts on BabyCenter from people say they get hard and that they are no longer good. Some people suggested that as long as they are sealed it's okay. Can I reseal the open ones with tape?
@purplewriter-2 I've never had anything wrong with saved "old" diapers, so I would say no, they don't expire. Maybe the people who said they did, were storing them somewhere with moisture like a basement, or using lesser quality diapers. We bought some cheap ones from the dollar general when we were in a pinch once, and those things were crunchy and awful the second we opened them. I always try to finish out a package of diapers before switching over, even if they are pushing a little small, but if I had too many leftover I just put them in a large zip lock bag to keep them clean and free of dust, but I'm sure just taping up an opened package would do the same to protect them.
Something is up with our air conditioning so we have someone coming out to look at it today. But they needed the AC turned off the night before they come in case it was frozen. Its been in the low 90s the past couple days. Im sweating just sitting here. I'd love to get out of the house but we leave on our trip in the morning so I have tons of laundry and stuff to do. Which makes the house even hotter.. 4 more hours...
@SawyerRichardson I'm sorry that really stinks. I hope your AC gets fixed soon!
Speaking of heat its been in the 90s here the last couple days too and we havent bought our AC yet... We thought we had more time lol. Plus its going back to 60s Sat. Anyways how is everyone keeping their babies cool? Poor Rid wants to either nurse or just be held and we're really making each other hot. Is it normal for babies to want to nurse like all the time in the heat? Rid nursed for 2 hrs and is nursing now again 40min later. He doesnt have any dehydration symptoms.

@marriedhamstermom we aren't nursing anymore but Wyatt still likes to be rocked to sleep sometimes. I've been putting a cool washcloth on him alternating between his tummy and his head and it seems to keep him cool. We also go no clothes at home when it's been in the 90s
