Weekend Chatter (4/29-4/30)

Happy Saturday everyone!

I'm stuck at work today and I have a feeling it's going to be a long day. On the upside, Merlefest (bluegrass music festival) is in town this weekend and DH and I are going tomorrow. I've never been and the music is generally not my scene but it's a big deal around here. Zac Brown Band is apparently playing tomorrow so there's that.

  • @JessDG I typically wish for a hot summer. Where I live in NC, my dad's pool won't be comfortable enough to swim in unless it"s hot for a few days in a row. And I really want to swim. Hope it doesn't get too hot in your neck of the woods though!

  • Warm weather? It is snowing here. BOOO SNOW
  • @ladyglittersparkles Omg I'm so sorry :( I hate snow.

My nails are crazy long and I just painted them. They make texting difficult so I don't know how long I'll keep them this way.

A friend of mine who is also pregnant is having a rough time right now. She's exhausted and has a toddler who's having trouble sleeping. I don't know exactly what the issue is but therapy is involved. I hate this for her. She was supposed to work today but took a mental health day instead because her nerves are shot and she also having stomach trouble.

  • Well my husband works 7 days a week  so in general my weekend days don't feel any different than the rest of the week. Went for a nice long walk this morning with my son and her dog which I do every morning.  I'm normally pretty busy during the week with play dates etc. but my Saturdays are normally pretty lame because all of my mom friends are having family time with your hubby's. I am excited that we are getting a new dresser delivered today and had an interview with our first ever cleaning lady this morning. Great success !
  • Good morning! Slowly sipping coffee before getting ready to try out this new brunch spot down the street. I'm wearing my new maternity leggings, and I feel like this is what I've been missing all my life. I think I will wear these for the rest of time, and that's that.
Love this! After my first pregnancy I wore my maternity jeans for about eight months ha ha. They're just so damn comfortable why doesn't everyone wear them?
  • @joforyoga I think if the jeans are half as comfortable as these, then I'm in for a permanent wardrobe change.  :D

It's like having spanx built into all your pants! No biggie
  • @sjohns08 I hear you! I still consider myself a dog person (though that title has been greatly challenged the last year lol), but three dogs in my house gets a little nuts. This dog is also a golden retriever and his long hair gets EVERYWHERE. I was going to clean today and then remembered it will be useless until he's gone.

  • For those of you that have went on long road trips with toddlers, what's the most hours you drove in one day (and/or what is the longest you'd recommend)?

We're going to have to go to Portland on fairly short notice and we're considering driving.  It's a 17 hour drive from San Diego and we're trying to figure out how to split it up!  In my younger, childfree days I drove straight through from LA to Portland a bunch of times, but I know with two toddlers it's a different ballgame!

We just drove 12 hours in one day to Phoenix last month with our 2.5 year old. It was doable. I loaded up our iPad with movies and new apps and she was pretty entertained (obviously excessive screen time does no harm to little minds on road trips ;) ). It wasn't fun by any means, but doable and worth it for us to cram into one day. I just suggest leaving early in the morning so they are hopefully groggy enough to just go back to sleep for awhile. Oh, and lots of snacks.

ETA: I probably wouldn't do 17 in one day though. But however you want to split it should be fine. I don't think you'd need to take more than 2 days. We also drove to Oklahoma last summer in less than 3 days so we are all about getting places as soon as possible lol

  • @TallMomma29 I did 13 hours when my older two were 3.5 and 1.5 yo. We had lots of snacks and a DVD player and they did great, but both have always been really laid back in the car. The 1.5 year old did have a meltdown at hour 12, but that lasted about 20 minutes and then he was fine that last little bit.

It honestly depends on your kids. We did 12 hours last summer with a 7, 5 and 2yo. The 7yo was ok, she gets bored and talks A LOT but shes tolerable. The 5 yo will sleep and watch movies the entire time. The 2 yo was tough. She gets bored, tired and antsy easily, so she was a mess for a lot of the trip.
  • Allergies are kicking my Dds butt so hopefully we'll get the air conditioner filters cleaned and get them in.  Somehow miraculously I'm caught up on laundry...so I'm working on planning out homeschool for next fall to make it doable with a new tiny.  I keep eyeing the fancy 30 dollar homeschool planners and wanting to buy one but rent is due...so I'm holding back (maybe...)

@TallMomma29 Me and both DDs get car sick so we could never make that trip without serious meds and tons of stops.

  • Hi ladies! Thank goodness it's the weekend! We've got snow here too. Not sticking to the ground but plenty of it on the cars. My agenda today includes DH's haircut and possibly some maternity work clothes because some guy at work is encroaching on my job duties so this means war. Pregnant or not, I gotta defend my job and honor. Plus I feel very frumpy in my maternity clothes right now. I'm feeling a little crummy after breakfast so for now I get to lay in bed a little bit. Gosh. I just love being away from work!

im mobile right now so tagging is annoying but in reference to car trip, Im a FTM but my parents took us on road trips a lot! We used to go to about 10 hours with a few gas breaks and snack breaks. We'd bring along our nintendo (ipad these days, lol) and we'd be ok!

  • @TallMomma29 We did 10 hours with a 2 year old. The long hauls are doable, just think it's all about planning for distractions. Agree with previous posters to load up the DVD player/iPads if you have them. They come into their own use in these types of situations.
  • @carries2018 luckyyyyyyyy!!! Seriously. Not fair!

  • You guys, I just went through a "Sh*t people say to pregnant women" thread from Aug17 and that sucker was 4 pages longer. I feel like we had a post like that but I could be wrong. Should we start one up? Or should we wait a little later?

  • @TallMomma29 We've done 9 hours with our done when he was just older than 1 and 2. We left nearly in the morning and packed a breakfast. We stopped at an awesome park to each/stretch/let our son play a bit. Then drove another few hours and got lunch and stopped at another park. Then drove the last few to our destination. Makes for a long day, but I think the small breaks helped keep our son from melting down too much in the car. We also bought new toys (cheap ones) for the ride, so when he would get bored we would pull another one out.  We plan on doing the same drive this June, but we aren't leaving until afternoon this time, so we will have to mix up or game plan! Plus I'll need to stop and stretch my legs more often as well.

We drove from Michigan to Florida with a 20 month old.  From noon to 2 am (DH idea) and then 10 to 5 I think.  Decent amount of stopping needed but got good chunks of sleep from our kiddo too.

  • Happy weekend ladies!
Taking it pretty easy this weekend. Originally planned a garage sale to empty out the spare room that will become nursery but really haven't tackled it. It's top to bottom storage overflow from when we moved in last summer (if you close the door it's easy to forget about it) so it's really overwhelming.

DH was gone all morning for CPR training and is now napping so I've got a quiet house to job hunt.
