Re: May IUI

  • IlkyIlky member
We did the first IUI this morning and will do the second tomorrow. It was very painful this time. My RE never does IUI, just the nurses do. This time was a different nurse so I dont know if she messed it up or my cervix was really tilted. There is now another follie but only 16mm so I dont know if that one will also ovulate. Other than that I have two 23mm follies and one humongous cyst 36mm. I don't feel optimistic, seems like I lost all my hopes. I already started thinking about IVF, which I am dreading. I really pray that I dont have to do IVF and this last IUI is the charm.
  • @Ilky So sorry it was painful! (((hugs))) besides the cyst, everything else looks good...some dr's consider only a 15mm follicle mature, so I think you are good :) Sending positive vibes your way!! Hopefully tomorrows IUI goes a lot smoother!

  • @Ilky I'm sorry it was painful today! I hope tomorrow's goes so much better. You have great numbers on the follies, so keep up hope.  :) What are they going to do about the giant cyst?
  • IlkyIlky member
Thanks girls! @Bababatty nothing! I asked the doctor and he said I shouldnt worry myself it will go away with ovulation or period. My doctor is very matter of fact and dont have much compassion or time to explain things. But he is very good at what he does (not that it worked for me yet). So, I'm not sure if this cycle fails maybe I'll look for another one.
  • @Labluver2 - how frustrating. I'm glad you guys got it sorted though!

@Bababatty - I'm sorry. I know it's unlikely because of the timing, but FX for you.

@JaeJayStark - I'm sorry everyone seems to be insensitive or jerks today. Hope your day has gotten better! I'm glad DH apologized!

@kristimh80 - which cheapies do you use?

BFN again for me today. I talked to my RE today and we agreed to do CD3 lab work and ultrasound and to do an HSG this cycle. I've had the SHG, is the HSG comparable or worse? I've read horror stories. I figure we'll only do one (maaaaybe two) more IUIs so I want to make sure my tubes are open first so we aren't wasting our time/money. I'm trying to be positive, but I'm failing miserably. And tonight I work so I'll be taking care of babies in the nursery all night. Kind of a love/hate relationship when you want what all your patients have.

  • Hi ladies! I'm finally joining after 2 months of lurking. I've found this board to be very helpful but was hesitant to join because of my situation.  I've been seeing a RE since March and he finally found that I have endometriosis. I'm not sure how my ob/gyn didn't suspect that.  Anyways, I've had two failed IUIs and an HSG on Tuesday that confirmed doc's suspicions that we need to move to IVF.  We are going through with the 3rd IUI though and my 14 day follicle check is tomorrow morning.

I want to say that I've been praying for all of you and I hope to see more BFPs!

@IIKY Hugs to you! I'm in the same boat with dreading IVF and hoping this last round works

  • @allycheer00 Welcome! I hope your IUI goes well next week. I'm sorry about impending IVF. I'm in a similar boat. It was fine to think about when I didn't think it would ever be a possibility, but now it's a bit terrifying--especially the prospect of paying so much!
  • @dmo1371 and @Bababatty Thank you! I'm crossing all the crossables for us all. It is very scary! I had it in my head that IVF was a year-long process. My RE said it's like two months? I don't even know how much it is at my clinic in Indiana. I need to do some research, clearly.

@allycheer00 Hope tomorrow's scan is a good one!!!

@dmo1371 I've been using a brand called Easy Home I found on Amazon. They came in a huge box with 50 opks and 20 hcg tests, so figured it was easier justifying POAS because are so cheap. Just ordered a similar cheap brand mainly for opk's.

  • Welcome! I had my 13 day follicle check today and I have 2 follicles on the left that are just over 17! This will be my 4th attempt but 3rd iui as last month was cancelled. They are having me continue my gonal-f injections today and tomorrow and then trigger shot on Sunday night and iui Tuesday morning. I hope my follicles don't get too big before then- is there such thing??

I got back tomorrow for cd15 testing. My cd11 showed 2 follies on both side but only 11mm or smaller!! Hoping for some growth or they will probably cancel my cycle.

  • @bpietronicco I don't think your follicles will get too big. I have a 28 and my doc says it's fine.
@sunnynat2015 Have you had a cycle cancelled before? I hope it doesn't happen this time!

AFM, I had a roller coaster of a 14 day follicle check today. The RE came through the door and I had instant anxiety. The nurse is always the one who goes over what's next. He explained his concern for multiples. I have a 28, 21 and two 17s but I said I wanted to move forward. Then I told him about the bleeding I've had and he decided to cancel this cycle. We can still do TI but so extremely disappointing. I have a consult for IVF on 6/7 :(

  • @sunnynat2015 - can't they just changed meds/increase the dose if you aren't responding rather than canceling the cycle? FX for growth!

@bpietronicco - I think that sounds like a good plan. Yay for so many follies!

@allycheer00 - I'm sorry about the canceled IUI. FX with 4 follicles TI will be successful!

  • Went back today.  One follicle grew to 13mm and they want me to go back on Monday for another ultrasound and blood which will be Cd 17. Of course it's the weekend so I couldn't talk to my doctor. I feel like it's weird and Cd17 is kind of late. What do you guys think? I've never had a cycle cancellation but never had this happen either.
  • @dmo1371 - I have no idea about medication increases. This has never happened to me. I feel like it might be too late?

@allycheer00 - Never had a cancelled cycle. Don't understand how everything can be going in the right direction on CD 17. Sorry about your cancelled cycle!
  • @sunnynat2015 - I don't know why you're doing IUIs/what your infertility diagnosis is, but I know for us the RE said he'd just increase meds if I wasn't responding well to my initial dose. I was on the same dose of femara for both my IUIs, but it took 7-8 days longer to get the same sized follicle on my second cycle compared to my first. You don't have to ovulate by CD 14. I would try not to stress about that :)

  • @dmo1371 I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2012.  Tried for over 2 years to get pregnant and was unsuccessful and finallyvreach out to a RE. I have had 5 IUIs previously in 2014/2015 and never had this happen. I think thats why I am looking into it do much. I'm afraid I'm just going to ovulate on my own and then we'll be out for this month. I guess we will see what Monday brings.

@kristimh80 you won't believe what happened! I got a bartholin gland cyst! I had several of them before but the last one was 2.5years ago. I'm pretty sure the rough IUI caused it! It's about golf ball size and extremely painful. I ended up going to urgent care today and the doctor said it's already draining. This time I did several different holistic treatments. It's sad it happened now. A surgery was out of question bc I might be pregnant (hope so) that's why I'm glad it burst on its own. I heard people saying it's worse than labor pain.
  • @Ilky omg!!! I'm sooo sorry, that's so crazy! I'm relieved for you that is draining also, so maybe it won't be an issue from here forward. I hope you are feeling ok and not in a lot of pain! (((hugs)))

Thank you ladies. I'm so much better now, thank God.  Yes, we did the second IUI the cyst wasn't that big at that time so it hurt but not a lot. Plus another nurse did it and she was worried seeing my cry. I had this awful cyst for several times in the past and I always had to get drained and word catheter put in for several weeks. So I was worried that it would interfere with my treatments and such. Because of the cyst I can't even take the progesterone suppositories. They will just do a test 7dpo to see if I need any. Btw, I don't have any cramping, unlike the previous cycles, so definitely progesterone was causing it.
  • @Ilky Great news! Hopefully you won't need the progesterone this time around. I wish they would wait to put me on it! Without it, at least you will know if symptoms are real. :)

@ilky I'm so sorry about the cyst and the pain! I'm so glad it's draining now and you don't need surgery. Is that the cyst that was growing right along with your follies? Also glad you got in both IUIs. FX!

I'll do my baselines that morning in case we decided to do the 6th and final IUI in June. Good luck to you all! I'm going to continue to lurk and hope you all get BFPs!

  • @kristimh80 I def will. If this cycle doesn't work out I'm going to see about taking next cycle off for a much needed emotional break. My husband and I are on vacation end of June and were planning on going to Massachusetts for a few days but it would end up being the middle of my next cycle so that wouldn't work.
