Nothing brings a BMB together like discussing vaccines. Will you be vaccinating your baby?

Edit: TB posted before I was done.

option 3 is obviously no to vaccinations.

let's hear what you have to say.

  • Uh oh...this could get interesting!
  • Let's hear from some anti-vaxxers in the group. Anyone? Anyone? I promise we'll still let you join our fb group.

I was hoping to find a pediatrician that only took vaccinated kiddos, but our town is too small. OB said I was the first person ever to ask him for a pro-vaccine recommendation  :D

We just had a mumps outbreak across the border in Washington. Parents here can opt out of vaccines for 'philosophical reasons' (in addition to religious and health exemptions) so we have a lot of under and unvaccinated children in our school district. Makes me crazy!

    Ded.
  • Yes, this baby, like my first two children will be getting vaccinated.

    I'm hoping it does!
  • @HgPa we also just had a mumps breakout here in the Dallas area. There was a couple on the news talking about their unvaccinated child contracting the mumps at school. They don't believe in modern medicine either, so they were just going to pray it away. I think cps ended up stepping in, I can't remember for sure.
  • ALL of the vaccines, and our pediatrician only  takes patients that vax on the CDC schedule (unless there's a medical reason to delay).

@erinh84 That poor baby! I hope CPS or someone stepped in and got them the care they needed. So scary!
  • I legit had to explain to someone that mumps is actually dangerous (we had a mumps case in our office last month).  She was like, "don't you just take some Tylenol if you get a fever...".

    I can't even...

  • All the vaccines!

People who will be close to baby have had whopping cough, meningitis, and other things you can get vaccinated for. I've seen the pain those people have gone through when they had their outbreak and will do what I can to prevent baby from having to go through that.

I have not seen enough proof to convince me the vaccines will do anything than cause temporary pain/shock from the shot and that little prick is worth avoiding the diseases to me.
  • Oh no! I'm the only one spreading out! My first child DD3 didn't do so well with having so many at one time at each appointment. She would run fevers and just be miserable all weekend.  So, while we will follow the same schedule, I'll likely spread them out over the months instead of all at the same appointment.

  • Give her all the vaccines!!!!!! I may spread them out depending on how she reacts to having them all done in one appointment, but that would be the only reason!

Though I'd love some entertainment, I'm glad that we don't have a bunch of anti-vax moms. It makes me happy for the world.
Same. Even though I wanted some entertainment today too, I'm actually very proud of all the June ladies for staying woke and choosing to vaccinate.

  • We do all the vaccines on the recommended schedule, because I am not a crazy conspiracy theorist and because I don't want my babies to die of preventable diseases. Anti vaxxers terrify me, because they are endangering my kids when they are too young for vaccines as well as people who can't be immunized on schedule for medical reasons. Spacing the vaccines out more isn't necessary for dd, but I don't have a problem with it as long parents are diligent about getting in for those extra appointments to stay on track overall.

That said, I will wait until the very end of my hospital stay or maybe my first pediatric appointment to get the first dose of hep b administered. I don't like putting a brand new baby through more pokes than necessary, and that one isn't (for me) actually time sensitive like vitamin k or the newborn screen potentially are.
  • UO here. You're probably not going to get any anti-vaxxers coming out of the woodwork because they know they'll just get lambasted for their decision. Goodness, look at the poll!! There's only yes options! Look at the tone of the thread so far! It's like starting a discussion on Trump or gay marriage or any other controversial topic and asking for people on the other side to discuss. They know if they say they oppose gay marriage or support Trump or oppose abortion or whatever, they're just going to get piled on. They don't want that.

I disagree with the choice to not vaccinate your kids. I have friends and family members who have chosen not to, but I don't get in arguments with them about why they're wrong even though I think they are. But at the end of the day, it's their choice, and I'm glad we live in a free country where we don't have medical procedures forced on us.
  • I'm so pro-vax that we don't even have any anti-vax friends. :open_mouth: Give us ALL the vaccines!
