Weekly Symptoms Thread 4/17

Re: Weekly Symptoms Thread 4/17

  • Insomnia, I'm a pregnant teacher who normally goes to bed at 9 each night. I'm wide awake tonight though and don't feel tired at all. I have no idea why, no caffeine or naps, in fact, I actually cleaned up half the house today, which is something I haven't felt like doing in a long time. I should be exhausted, but I can't get to sleep.
  • I can not find a comfortable sleeping position. This seems too early, but I can tell it's from everything relaxing and spreading out. I really want to sleep on my back. Might look into how expensive those pillows that allow you to sleep on your stomach are.

  • 18 weeks 6 days, I'm having the worst cramps on my lower left side. It's freaking my PGAL brain out.
  • @heatherwilson321 drink lots of water. It tends to help with cramps.

    Thanks ladies.

I don't go to the specialist for another couple of weeks because my pain has subsided for the most part! They're sure it's not an emergency but want me to see him "just in case." I'm just trying to be really careful about my water intake and alway making sure to use the restroom and all that jazz.
  • Guys I'm kinda freaking myself out a little because I feel like I *may* be having contractions. It weirdly doesn't feel like my whole uterus is contracting, more so just like the lower region close to the undies line. It isn't painful, and it's only a few times a day, but there's a definite "tightening" feeling. Does this sound like Braxton hicks? I never had them as far as I can tell with my son.

Yup sounds like Braxton hicks, drink more water and if you've been doing stuff sit down and relax for a bit. How many have you had
  • I'm getting like a sharp pain right in the middle of my left hip at night, especially when I lie on my right side. When I googled it, it seems like a common symptom for the end of the third tri but I'm only 19w! Anyone else experiencing anything like this?
  • @k8ywags I'm 20 weeks and have been experiencing terrible pain in both hips at night. It goes away fairly quickly if I change positions but it's pretty bad some nights! I feel like I'm tensing the muscles in that area to try and stay on my sides instead of flopping over onto my back in the middle of the night

  • @wyomama0427 I've been getting maybe 5-10 a day for the last week or so. I'm already drinking 80-120 ounces of water a day, and work a desk job so I'm not usually exerting myself as it is.... should I be worried or are they normal in your experience?
  • @LaceyC1020 How annoying is it? I'm exactly the same, if I change positions it goes away but it's enough to wake me up through the night.
  • @k8ywags Oh I'm practically in tears some nights because of it. I find that it helps if I hug a longer pillow and put it between my knees too. Kind of helps keep me positioned comfortably. I had a prenatal massage yesterday and last night I didn't really have much hip pain.

  • @LaceyC1020 @k8ywags I've also been having a ton of hip pain. My masseuse gave me a few things to do to help, and so far they seem to have worked decently well. The first is actually a belly dancing move where you gently move your hips in a figure 8 motion, which helps everything stay loose in there. The second in putting a ball between your knees (like a small playground ball), and gently squeezing it until you feel resistance for ten second. It's supposed to help keep your hips in alignment. They haven't completely taken away the pain, but I can notice that they make a difference.

  • Thanks @mrs_tacos!!

General rule for the Bump (and life) is if you feel the need to ask strangers if some thing is normal or if you should be worried about it, you need to call your doctor. Worst case is a stranger telling you it's NBD when it actually is a big deal. Best case is your Dr tells you everything is fine and not to worry.
  • I've definitely been dealing with Braxton Hicks contractions as well, they started last week.  @angeladowns1. I would call your nurse's line. With DS, by the end I had them every time I stood up, or walked a decent amount.  That being said, my experience has no bearing on what may be happening to you in this situation.  It's probably fine, but it's better to have the reassurance from your doc than internet strangers.  I have a midwife appt tomorrow, and will ask her about it then, since I don't remember having them until at least 24w as a FTM.

  • True that. I'd just heard they're fairly common and not usually worrisome, but that's hard to focus on when you have this foreign feeling you've never felt before happening. I'll def give the doc a ring, just to be safe.

Braxton Hicks can be normal but I'd still talk to your doctor. I asked my doctor about mine, she reassured me that what I personally have going on is completely normal (in fact I felt a little silly because she smiled and almost giggled, but she is super nice and reassured me anyway) but it's still good to touch base with your doctor on everything. That way they have an idea of what's been going on and have all the info if something changes later on. If I hadn't been so open with my doctor about EVERYTHING even though I thought it was normal (heart palpitations, constipation etc.) she wouldn't have thought to check my thyroid. It's always a good idea to check with your doctor.
  • @wyomama0427 Thanks! That's a great perspective, to tell them everything because little things combined can equal bigger things. I left a message with the nurses line but haven't heard back, so I'm assuming she's not worried? Lol. Either way I'm glad I called!
