@AMCsquared I ate sushi during my first pregnancy. You need to make smart choices, like making sure the restaurants you go to are getting fresh and high quality fish from reputable suppliers. I've said it before and I'll keep saying it, you can't live the next 8-9 months in a bubble.
I'm with @sdLindenberg (again, lol) use your judgement, be cautious and don't eat anything questionable, regardless if it's been labelled as 'pregnancy safe' or not. Most recent outbreaks in harmful bacteria have been in vegetables, but no one is tell you to stop eating salad! Use your brain and think critically.
@AMCsquared I don't eat sushi (I live in WI and just can't wrap my head around eating seafood when there is no sea around), but I feel like if you're going to somewhere reputable, they have cross contamination procedures.

THANK YOU!!!! Restaurants, especially sushi bars/restaurants, are VERY aware of possible cross contamination. Seeing as I've worked in many kitchens over the last 11 years, I know how bad an outbreak can be. When it comes to sushi, most sushi chefs/masters have a full set of knives that do different tasks. One of the chefs at our favorite local joint has a specific knife he uses ONLY for veggie rolls. Its never touched fish or meat of any kind. Also, the Chinese restaurant we frequent, they normally don't do substitutions, but when I waddled in there 7 months pregnant with DD and asked for my Lo Mein with no sprouts (something my favorite little old lady there HATED me requesting before DD) they totally understood why.

That's good to know about use of different knives! I'm sure it depends on the place too. I diddd take a sushi making class one time so I could potentially do it myself lol but let's be real it's never gonna happen

@AMCsquared I agree with @sdLindenberg and @vvitchhazel - I think there are general food safety/hygiene requirements that you don't use the same knife and cutting board for veggies as for meat and fish.
@AMCsquared- Any rolls that have shrimp tempura or eel are going to be safe because they're cooked. I loooove raw sushi but don't usually eat it until I'm further along in my pregnancy. My food aversions are all over the place this pregnancy, from one day to the next, I've moved on to or away from something. Recently, I've been adding prosciutto and havarti cheese to my scrambled eggs- I'm a Sahm so yes, I have the time while #1 and #2 are eating breakfast, and I came across a killer sandwich on Pinterest that I'm in love with! I smear goat cheese on one half of wheat bread and blackberry jam on another, fill with deli turkey, put in oven until heated- then add spinach. Something about the flavor combo has me a very happy prego!
@AMCsquared I eat cooked or veggie sushi while pregnant--did it last pregnancy, have already done it several times this pregnancy. As long as it's a reputable place, I don't feel it's a big risk. (honestly, at a reputable place, even raw sushi probably isn't a huge risk, but I don't really like the raw stuff anyway!)

I'd eat sushi every day if mercury wasn't a concern, but I limit it to once a week while pregnant. Common sense goes a long way here; there's a big difference between making smart decisions and living in a bubble. There's no mom awards being handed out for self-deprivation.
Edit: @AMCsquared, not trying to sound judgmental about your question! It's so hard when you're getting so much different information about what should be avoided. This is just my general opinion regarding "food rules."
No problem @Jellybelly119 ! I was just curious of everyone's opinions. So many of my non bump friends have said they completely won't touch sushi at all bc of any slim chance. So my sushi loving heart likes the general approval here of sushi eating haha.

How's everyone doing on coffee intake? I have an Nespresso machine, and I drink just one pods worth in the morning (it's the equivalent of a shot of espresso). Is that still ok? Has everyone else cut coffee out completely? I don't drink soda or anything like that, so this is my only source of caffeine.
@breezybee I have 1 cup of caffeinated coffee in the morning and a soda at lunch. I can't make it through the day otherwise. I have no intentions of cutting either out. It's less than 200 mg of caffeine a day, which is the "recommended limit."
@breezybee I haven't actually had caffeine since by BFP, but I'm not opposed to it. Honestly I just never have needed coffee, I just like it (because I put creamer in it-ha!) and I'm going to wait until I'm basically falling asleep at my desk to go for it. I feel like the creamer is much less healthy than the caffeine, so that's really the main reason I'm holding off.
I think I saw on another BMB that someone said a 16-oz drip coffee at a coffee shop doesn't even have 200 mg (or whatever the "safe" amount per day is). Except for Starbucks, they apparently have higher caffeine content. So I'd say you're good!
@rachswi@MJDsquared@kvacmak Ok good. I was hoping I wasn't being a rebel with my espresso @MJDsquared I'm jealous that you aren't a coffee person. With my lack of sleep, it's so essential to getting me moving!
@breezybee I still have my morning coffee, there is no way I am giving that up. I have started making it a smaller cup so this way I can have something in the afternoon if I feel I need it.
@breezybee I think you're my new best friend lol. A few months ago, I realized that out of nowhere, I was a regular two-cupper. Besides insomnia, I also have chronic daytime fatigue. I'm basically nocturnal ... the sleep specialist I saw said "you're really sleepy, and we don't know why." Even with the stimulant I have to take in order to wake up, most days I can't make it without at least one cup of joe. I was so sad when I had to force it down earlier because it was making me gag!
I'm an "at least one coffee but more likely two coffees" type of person when not pregnant. However, with all my pregnancies, I just haven't wanted it. It's not an aversion, but I just don't want it enough to put in the (minimal) effort to get a cup. So I don't and I haven't missed it.

@breezybee I drank 1 cup of coffee everyday with my son until it started giving me horrible heartburn in the 3rd trimester. I have basically cut caffeine with this pregnancy though because it doesn't sound appealing.
@AMCsquared Sweet potato rolls! cucumber avocado. If you tell the chef you have a fish allergy they tend to make sure they don't cross contaminate. And if the place never made you sick when you weren't pg, she would prob be okay.
@MJDsquared I also have one cup of coffee a day and I drink mine with unsweetened almond milk, a dab of coconut oil, and half packet of raw stevia instead of regular creamer.
I've eaten Morningstar Grillers almost every day this week, with a little Dijon mustard and a dab of mayo smeared on the bun, with a giant side of peas.
@MJDsquared I'm the same way, I love coffee for the creamer taste but I just don't need it.
@justsuzie I like the fish allergy lie idea. They'd probably take it more seriously! My friends r still all dead set against taking the risk but I think I'll be eating my veggie rolls.

@jfritschie loveeee tacos & fajitas and alllll Mexican food. Tacos are the only food I can always eat. Last pregnancy my cravings for Mexican food was fierce!
I'm a raging bitch if I don't have caffeine of any kind. I get bad migraines that even my migraine meds don't help much with. I get iced coffee, these days it's half caff, but regular coffee still doesn't have the max 200mg you should consume.
We also have a nespresso machine (thank the lord!!!) so DH wakes up with the baby, makes his espresso shot, changes baby while mine is brewing, then while he makes her bottle he will fix mine up (over ice with a bit of vanilla almond milk). Then I get to feed her while having my morning coffee.
@AMCsquared I have to ask since our usernames are so similar: do you and your husband have the same initials? That's how I came up with mine so I'm curious!
@MJDsquared@vvitchhazel haha yes! Same for me too! And my maiden name was the same initial as my married name so we have always been initial twins lol. I told him that once I get pregnant I want to change my middle name to my maiden name and he's like no u can't bc then we won't match amc. I'm like really lol!? Honoring my maiden name is more important than us having matching initials hahaha. Haven't done it yet but still want to.

There is this Mexican burrito that I've been dying for. It's from a loca restaurant around here and it's literally stuffed with steak, bacon, guac, and pico and then smothered in cheese and their red sauce. Omg I need it so badly right now
