I work as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service part time. My official title is RCA, which basically means that I'm a substitute carrier. I'm assigned to a specific route and I'm guaranteed the days off that the regular carrier has or any time that they take off... then I'm on call for other routes to help as needed. It's a very physically and mentally demanding job... seriously, please give your mail carriers a hug. Lol. The employee retention rate is crazy low. I work 10-11 hours a day and maybe get 20 minutes of a break the entire time. And that's considered "long" among my coworkers as most only take 10 minutes. You're constantly on the move. It's an awesome workout but I'm beat by the end of the day... Thank the Gods I'm only doing it 2-3 days a week! I'm also a photographer, mostly working with families, couples, and children. I started it as a hobby then it snowballed into an actual business. A few nights a week I do advocacy work for sexual assault in my community. It's something that I'm super passionate about and I'd love to get into it full time.
What do you do? I'm in financial sales/relationship management. I manage a team of other relationship managers, as well some of our larger client relationships.
How Long have you been in that career/profession/position etc? 5 years.
What are your career goals? Honestly, I don't know right now. DH and I just relocated to a new area for his job, which has turned out to be pretty demanding. I may become a SAHM for a few years, and then look to start my own thing and work for myself, or go work part-time somewhere. I really like the sense of accomplishment and recognition that I get from working, even though I don't necessarily love my job.
What did you do before this career/profession/position? I worked in marketing for another financial firm. In college, I worked in a doctor's office part-time as an office manager, and then I did a bunch of internships.
What do you do? Currently I'm a nursing student in a BSN program and I graduate this May. I've had interviews for NICU, PICU, and ED. ED is definitely my passion and where I'm doing my internship right now and I love it!
How Long have you been in that career/profession/position etc? I've been working toward this degree for 6 years. I had 2 children along the way at a young age so I've taken only a couple classes a semester.
What are your career goals? I plan to become some type of advance practice nurse down the road. Hoping to go back within the next 3-5 years.
What did you do before this career/profession/position? I have worked as a waitress/bartender since I was 16. I still do it every once in a while. I like being able to socialize but make money at the same time haha!
What do you do? Im a SAH/WFHM. I work part time as a seamstress/costumer for ice skaters and dancers.
How Long have you been in that career/profession/position etc?
A couple years. I started out making my own competition dresses for ice skating, and had a couple baton twirlers at first, then skaters and dancers.
What are your career goals?
No real goals for this other than to have fun with it and keep learning
What did you do before this career/profession/position?
I actually went to culinary school! I got my AS and BS in baking and pastries first. I worked in professional kitchens for about 8 years before having the executive chef tell me that because I'm female, I shouldn't be in a professional kitchen. Funny thing was I actually did my job, the spud chefs job, AND his job better than they did.
I am a registered nurse and work in a NICU. I am per diem and so I only work 1 shift a week. I also sell LipSense from home.
How Long have you been in that career/profession/position etc?
NICU: I have been a nurse 3 years, and worked in a NICU for 2.
What are your career goals? My hope is that I will be able to stop working as a nurse once my husband is done with grad school and that I'll be able to transition to only doing LipSense from home.
What did you do before this career/profession/position? I nannied and went to school.

It's great to have you here, because I'm sure there will be quite a few people with babies in the NICU. My twins had 35 days and I give a lot of credit to their success to the wonderful nurses we had!
What do you do? I'm a credit analyst, basically fancy term for reviewing accounts for credit limits/worthiness and getting on them when they don't pay their bills.
How Long have you been in that career/profession/position etc? I've been in accounting for about 5 years now. Just started this job in March, they are going to love to hear that I'm pregnant I'm sure.
What are your career goals? My goal is to get my CPA, I have a marketing degree... So I can run a department some day.
What did you do before this career/profession/position? Before this I've done so many jobs mostly serving while getting through college, and a few receptionist positions. I've also done professional photography and sold some of my sewing/crafts on the side.
kvacmak-I have heard that pregnant women should avoid crunches as this makes the diastasis worse. When do I need to stop? So many of my work out videos have crunch type exercises. And, can you suggest anything that I can replace them with? I have heard that planks are ok for preggo ladies but would love some additional suggestions.
ameliabedelia-2- How exciting to be planning to stay at home with your littles!
What do you do? I am a paralegal at a personal injury law firm. We specialize in maritime injuries.
How Long have you been in that career/profession/position etc? This is my 5th year with the firm.
What are your career goals? I would like to get a paralegal certificate but can't imagine when I will have time.
What did you do before this career/profession/position? Before this I was a first grade teacher.
I am a Sensory Specialist at a dairy company, which basically means I get paid to taste ice cream! In reality, i am between the quality and research & development departments, running sensory panels and helping personnel learn how to taste their products. I am starting to help develop new products!! Dream job
I have been doing this for about 10 months now
I'd like to keep working in the food industry, staying within sensory or R&D work.
Before this, I was at 2 flavor and seasonings companies in quality control for 6 years. Before that, i earned a BS in Food Science
I am a paramedic. I recently left working the ambulance full-time to a dispatching job full-time, so that I can focus on starting my family! I dispatch for a large trauma system, which includes two medical helicopters!
How Long have you been in that career/profession/position etc?
I have been in EMS for 10 years. I recently switched from the ambulance to dispatching 7 months ago.
What are your career goals?
I am currently in school for nursing, and my true passion is NICU nursing.
What did you do before this career/profession/position?
I was a crime scene investigator for the police department.
@Mandayno NICU nursing was always my dream too! I am currently working per diem in a NICU but I plan on stopping once my husband graduates school so I can stay home with my kids full time. I like the NICU though, I'm sure you will too!
My goal is to raise functioning members of society. Who are kind, compassionate, and helpful.
I was a make up artist and owned an Etsy shop prior to having my DS.I would like to jump back into both very part time once all the kids are in school.
What do you do? I'm a reading specialist in an elementary school. I primarily teach students who have dyslexia.
How Long have you been in that career/profession/position etc? I've been teaching for 12 years, doing dyslexia for 4 years.
What are your career goals? I really like what I'm doing now, and I hope I can continue working with dyslexic students/struggling readers for the rest of my career.
What did you do before this career/profession/position? I've been teaching since college so before this it was your standard retail, fast food, etc.
What do you do? I'm a graduate student in the social sciences
How Long have you been in that career/profession/position etc? Urgh, too long, almost 6 years, so I need to graduate soon, but I'm nowhere near ready yet. Also compared to Europe maternity leave really sucks in the US, so I'm happy to be in a position where I can take a leave of absence when LO is born (if all goes well).
What are your career goals? to become a tenured professor somewhere nice.
What did you do before this career/profession/position? I did all kinds of jobs on the side, I packaged plastic bags in a factory, cleaned in a bakery, worked in the fast food industry, dispatched AAA to drivers in Europe, taught Danish as a second language... the list goes on
@AMCsquared thanks, although it much less awesome when you consider I was born there and lived there until I was 25 I find it more impressive that I speak English, haha.
@sdLindenberg I also have my degree in pastry arts! I hope to get back to that field some day
What do you do? I work for a Harley-Davidson dealership doing admin work. I spent the last 13 years in the clothing/riding gear department (managing it for much of that time). I loved it but I was tired of working retail
How Long have you been in that career/profession/position etc? Almost 14 years!
What are your career goals? Someday I would like to put my college degree to use and open a bakery.
What did you do before this career/profession/position? I went to school to become a pastry chef. I worked in a couple bakeries in college but have been at my current job since I was 16.

@ktcakes87 I dont, unless its a Cottage Kitchen business from home/rental kitchen lol. I worked WAYYYY too hard to get to where I was before I had an a-hole boss who told me to my face "women don't belong in a professional kitchen. You're not worthy of your title here", and promptly cut my hours because I did my job, his job (he was the Executive Chef) AND the line cooks job who couldn't come in sober. So I'm a little bitter, but I made out ok with making costumes. Total opposite end of the spectrum, but it makes me happy
What do you do? I'm a Lease Analyst for a Natural Gas company
How Long have you been in that career/profession/position etc? I've been doing that for 3 years now but I've been in the industry for 11 years.
What are your career goals? At this point I want to make it to Senior Lease Analyst. Making it to Lease Analyst was a huge goal (mainly because people said I wouldn't be able to) so now I just want to be the best at it!
What did you do before this career/profession/position? Before I became an Analyst I was an Admin and WAYYY before that I worked at Libby Lu! Whoop whoop!
How Long have you been in that career/profession/position etc? This is my 7th year teaching.
What are your career goals? I am actually planning on taking some time off after this school year to stay home with dd and the new baby. I love my students, but coming back to work after having dd in May was hard for me and I feel a pull to be at home with her and the baby for awhile. I'm bit nervous but also excited for a career change to SAHM!
What did you do before this career/profession/position? I have done this since graduating college. During college I nannied and worked in daycare.
Currently am a SAHM and work at Trader Joes on the weekends
How Long have you been in that career/profession/position etc?
I've been at home with the kids for the past 5 years, but have worked random part time jobs during the same time that include office assistant at a psych office, graphic designer for a medical marketing company, insurance coordinator for a children's group home, and most recently at TJs. None of these positions have been related to what I went to university for, ha, just things that were offered in the moment and for me to earn a little extra to supplement my husbands income. And for me to have adult interaction after a day full of toddler conversation
What are your career goals?
Not sure right now. We might decide to homeschool so if that happens, that will become my full time job. If no, I would really love to get back into social services/non profit work, which is what I did before children.
What did you do before this career/profession/position?
I studied sociology and then worked in the social change department of a local domestic violence shelter prior to motherhood.
