Okay, here's more of a serious UO. I can't stand all this boycotting of Ivanka Trump by the liberals and especially those liberals that are feminists. Ivanka is the very epitome of feminism. She has a successful career, she's a wonderful mother, a loving wife, she dresses well, and holds herself with dignity. And she's stepping in to help out her father where his wife can't because she is also being a great mother. Why is everyone bashing her and boycotting her clothing line, and even boycotting stores who are still selling her clothing line?
I had forgotten my UO that I had yesterday but @mrsmarygs reminded me. Probably a touchy UO but I cannot stand those that boycott in the name of "feminism." The majority of them are so freaking hypocritical. They will wear vagina costumes and march around topless demanding sexual freedom, etc. Yet complain that women who wear revealing clothing or *gasp* a small bikini are disrespecting themselves. To claim we are "going back in time" regarding womens rights is insane. The opportunities are there for women, and those who work hard to obtain their position are just as competitive as men with the same qualifications. I agree @mrsmarygs, I think Ivanka Trump is a great example of a successful mom and woman in general. There are way more people I could think to "boycott;" Beyonce maybe? Not trying to offend anyone or open a can of worms, just my opinion.

It's a traditional Republican ideal to 'vote with your wallet' instead of having the government make rules and regulations in the business sector. Those boycotting the brand are merely voting with their wallets and the companies who carry/carried the line are responding to those votes. She's not the epitome of feminism. She can't even pretend to be the epitome of it because she does not understand or even empathize with women who aren't in the same socioeconomic class as she is. She's aloof to what middle, lower, and poor class women face on a daily basis because she's never had to live that life. She's aloof to what women of color face on a daily basis because never been any other color than white. She needs to get out in the community and listen to what other women have to say. She needs to advocate on behalf of all women, not just the ones like her. I think she tries to be a feminist but falls short because she simply doesn't get it. Feminism is about uplifting and empowering ALL women, even the ones you don't like and don't understand. It's about the equality of the sexes- ex: women having careers without missing out on opportunities at work and men leaning in at home to take care of child raising and homemaking while holding down a job too.
@mrsmarygs We're a capitalist society and people have a choice about where they spend their money. There are numerous examples of all political parties or their supporters choosing to not support a store, brand, person etc for their political beliefs. Some people don't eat Jimmy John's anymore because the owner shot a white rhino for sport. The Dixie Chicks were not played on numerous radio stations after they came out against the Iraq war. There was a conservative movement to not shop at Target anymore last year when they stopped gendering their toy aisles.
I don't agree with a boycott based solely on a relationship, however, I don't believe that is the case in this situation. Ivanka Trump chose to put her support towards her father's administration. She's working for him and had an office in the White House. I totally get it... If my dad ran for office I'd support him. But she has also made a strong political statement and, as we're a free country, has to deal with the potential consequences of that. Bakeries that refused to make cake for same sex marriages were free to make that choice but also ended up with the consequences when some people choose to not shop the there. And, the consequence that some people supported them more. The same that Ivanka Trump is having.
@mrsmarygs and @CSL522 Yes. So glad to not be the only one. This really isn't about politics, but they are covering it up with the mask of politics. It's women shaming women. So what her politics are she's a strong woman, mother, a daughter. People applaud the clinton ladies for the same thing but they know nothing of women of color's struggle or the poor or any of that. STOP hating on other successful women! Come together as women no matter their background or socioeconomic class. We are the only ones holding us back bc you have to fit the liberal image of feminism to be a strong successful woman, and if not then you're an impediment on the success and empowerment of women.
here watch this funny vid from Nicole Arbour about women holding other women down...that is ridiculously ON POINT.
I am all for supporting women but I will not support Trump or his administration and that now includes Ivanka. It has absolutely nothing to do with her being a woman and everything to do with the fact I refuse to support an administration that goes against so many of my personal beliefs. I am not even a little sorry that I will not buy one thing with the Trump name on it.

I agree. I won't even pretend that I'm not against her just because I'm against him and everything he stands for. Of course, I'm not out protesting anything.
I will say, though, I think the issue a lot of people find with her is that he continues to give political roles to people he knows/likes personally, people that will be "yes men", rather than people that will are qualified for the position.
I agree with everything @Becky012016 and @wineren said about Ivanka. Her brand of feminism really only supports women like her, and she seems completely blind to the concept of intersectionality. At some point this could have been contributed to the bubble of extreme privilege she was born into, but by now she is a thirty-something woman with the resources to interface with the world in any way she wants, and she still hasn't managed to see the world through anyone else's eyes. Perhaps she doesn't privately agree with everything her father espouses, but her endorsement of him and silence on those issues makes her complicit in them.
And, btw, I am not particularly liberal. I'm a true moderate, I affiliate with neither party, and have voted Republican in many elections.
here's an UO...and if we aren't friends anymore, it's ok. I'm a Conservative Republican. I was completely opposed to the Obama Administration, and did not vote for him or support basically any of his agenda either time, but guess what? He became the POTUS, and I didn't throw a fit like so many liberals are STILL doing. We aren't going to fix a goddamn thing being so selfish. Not everything is going to work exactly how you want it to. If you want your agenda/beliefs to be heard WRITE YOUR CONGRESSMEN! Like, the President doesn't make the law...YOUR REPRESENTATIVES AND SENATORS IN CONGRESS DO! They set the budget, they are the ones who actually make the policies. So if you are SO upset about where the country is going, reach out to your Congressmen. We are Americans...and Donald Trump is the President of the United States of America...sooo he is your president. If you are that upset, then you don't understand how the US Government actually works. Honestly, learn civics.
My UO: I don't like cheesecake. I seem to like every other dessert, but cheesecake is too rich for me.
cheesecake is my favesy. we don't have a cheesecake factory where I live, and it makes me sad. but i found a cheesecake boutique downtown and it makes me happy
UO: Along with cheesecake. I also hate the Cheesecake Factory. They closed one of my favorite brunch places and put in a Cheesecake Factory and now I refuse to eat there! I never liked it in the first place.
@labby18 Amen. I want to add that many conservative republicans (like myself) did not love that Trump was the primary winner. However, I completely despise Hillary and share many of the same views as Donald Trump. We aren't always going to line up 100% with our candidate. However, he is the president of EVERYONE in America and looting, arson and disrupting traffic do not allow the forward progression of our country. It's just a large temper tantrum.
I love the actual cheesecake at The Cheesecake Factory, but hate eating meals there because the majority of the menu items have an insane amount of calories. I like enjoying my food as much as the next person, and have no issues with some splurges, but I can't justify spending 2,500 calories on generic chain-restaurant food. If I'm going to eat that many calories in one sitting, take me to an authentic Italian or French restaurant where the food is luxurious and totally worth it!
@labby18 but define "throwing a fit" for us. If that's raising awareness so others will also write to the appropriate people then they're doing what they should. I'm a Canadian liberal feminist atheist so I find almost everything trump does to be offensive. It hurts my heart that so many people voted for him and it makes me happy whenever I see a protest or news article or whatever angering people and motivating them to take action.
@csl522 yeah i didn't vote for him in the primaries...and I am on board with everything you said. So many republicans actually still do not support him, thus why a majority republican congress is halting and rejecting a lot of his executive orders and agenda.
Hey look at that. We just had a great discussion about politics, and people on both sides stated their opinions and viewpoints without name calling, and we are all still friends. I think we are an awesome board!
My UO: I don't like cheesecake. I seem to like every other dessert, but cheesecake is too rich for me.
No! I love cheesecake. Box mix, homemade, store bought--I will eat it all! My DH loves it just as much as I do, and he buys it with the excuse that the baby wants it. Mmmhhmmm.
@mynamestaken He didn't get a majority of the votes. Rest assured a majority of your neighbors to the south don't support him or what he stands for either. The last time the loser of the popular vote became president, we got into a war, the housing market crashed, and we went into a recession...

I think she was talking about the looting and rioting part. I as a conservative do not mind protests, boycotts, raising awareness and so on, as long as it is inside the realm of the law.
I will say this about Trump, and then (hopefully) will keep my mouth shut.
I am a public school teacher. His stance on education, and Betsy DeVos in general, is terrifying.
Also, a majority of people that I know personally voted for Trump for one reason: he's against abortion. I call bullshit. That man doesn't care about abortion one way or another, but that's one thing you have to say to be successful as a conservative politician.
Edit: I am also legitimately fearful of the damage he will do to our relations with other countries.
@mrsmarygs yes, that is what i meant. 1st amendment rights, go for it - illegal rioting, looting, and destruction of your hometown is what i would call a temper tantrum/throwing a fit. But....
@LosAngelesMama@MrsVP614 Have either you ever tried long-haired cats? My aunt is insanely allergic to cats but my grandmom used to have a Himalayan (Siamese + Persian, think Sassy from Homeward Bound) and she could spend all the time in the world around that cat and be fine! It was the weirdest thing, so I always wondered if it was just her or if it's a "thing" for other people too.
