Best Baby-Related Toiletries

Re: Best Baby-Related Toiletries

  • @chocolatelemons I went with the California Baby products also. FTM so we'll see how it goes but I have super sensitive skin and figured this would be good in case LO does too.

  • This seems as good a place as any for this question. Has anyone ever used the little cream spreading tools? I HATE getting creams under my fingernails but on the other hand it seems a little like overkill.
  • @ShadeofGreen816 I've never used them but did register and receive one. I can't wait to use it. I have a friend who uses one and says it's super easy and keeps it all in one place instead of having to smear it with your finger and then getting it everywhere. When your all done it wipes down with a wipe. So easy!

@ShadeofGreen816: I haven't used the spreader things but for a long time had a box of nalgenes next to the changing table for serious cleanups, so using them might be an option for you?

I also discovered the trick of running the back part of my pointer finger through the tub of cream to scoop it up, that way it wouldn't get jammed under my fingernail. Try it!
  • I am ordering one!

  • P.S.A.  Target SALE!
My Target has almost the entire section for expecting moms in the pharmacy on clearance so I got the Earth Mama Angel Baby nipple cream a lot of you have recommended. Still not the best pricing I've seen in my research but I still grabbed one just cuz then I didn't have to deal with ordering. But lots of the other brands/products were marked down as well!

Also, I didn't participate because I also have a lot of repeats and it's really different in each situation but just wanted to say the Lansinoh lanolin nipple cream recommended and used at the hospital wasn't enough for me and I eventually had to be prescribed prescription nipple cream Apno (around $60 for a small tube - but worked!) and had to EP and bottle feed for a couple weeks while I healed so I'm just putting that out there in case anyone finds them self in a similar situation and needs the prescription option.
  • Favourite/Most Effective...
Diaper Rash Cream: Sudocream or coconut oil if he's in cloth.
Baby Bath Wash: Avon Kids Naturals but they don't have it in Canada anymore. Live Clean is my second favorite for baby. Night time baths are the best too.
Baby Shampoo: Same as bath wash.
    Baby Lotion/Oil: same as above.
Nipple Cream: I've never used it.

Least Favorite Products (and why): Johnson & Johnson is probably my least favorite because of the whole cancer causing thing. And breast pads aren't on here but there are triangle shaped ones and I don't remember the brand but each pad was packaged by itself and they didn't have sticky backs and fell out everywhere and they sucked but I made myself use them all up because I didn't want to waste the money. I ended up losing pads all over the house because I didn't notice them falling out and it was so annoying.

  • @ShadeofGreen816 - I use little finger cots to spread ointment - I don't have a big tub that I have to stick my finger in, but I just don't like having that greasy ickyness on me!

  • Boy Moms! PeePee TeePees aren't really necessary right? Do I really have to be that prepared with a wipe to cover a stream?!

Also, I could dig up the circumcision thread but I figure it goes here as well, what do I need to have at home post-circumcision? Just Vaseline?

  • @hp_momma Never had a peeper teepee and never needed one. Threw a wipe to cover him while I changed his diaper. Also we didn't need to purchase anything for the circumcision care. They sent us home with enough supplies.

Also a vote for no pee-pee teepees needed. Covering with a wipe or diaper works well. Also, during a diaper change, folding down the front of the diaper to allow the cool air in (which is often what prompts a new pee stream), and being prepared to put it right back up again at a moment's notice... works quite well!

Circ care is super simple and doesn't even last a week. Yup, vaseline, and the hosp provides what you need.
  • @hp_momma I'm in the reverse situation and prepping for a first girl!  With my boys, I left them covered with the dirty diaper and then had the clean diaper under it anyway so it was easy to fold something up in an "emergency."

For diaper cream, I use q-tips.

Diaper Cream:  Burt's Bees.  Honest Co. has a bum wash that I like too, but just for cleaning, not really for a serious rash.

Baby Wash and Shampoo:  Honest Co.

Nipple Cream:  I used Newman's APNO with both, but learned to be careful with it because the steriod in it can actually inhibit healing if you have actual skin breakage.  More than anything, I love Soothies stuck in the refrigerator for soreness there.

We've never really used a lotion regularly.  I'm really lazy with bathing kids so they don't tend to get really dried out.

@ShadeofGreen816 we haven't used the diaper cream spatula but we got one this time. Fiance use to complain so much with DD so I got it. Now he thinks it's silly. Apparently he has no problems spreading cream on balls opposed to a vagina  :| can't win 'em  all I guess....

@nda_roxybabe this had been answered but my 2 cents. I prefer Gripe Water over gas drops. But I only use the Mommy's Bliss Gripe water (it comes in a blue box/bottle) the little remedy sucks!

  • @hp_momma I know it's been answered, but I agree no teepee. I've been sprayed twice in my nannying days, which is nothing considering how many boy diapers I changed. You'll get a technique really easily with a wipe/diapers.
  • My mom and I were out shopping yesterday for baby stuff and saw the teepees. Mom asked me what they were for and so I explained. The sales lady stocking shelves nearby must have overheard and burst out laughing when she saw my mother's horrified face lol. Mom couldn't believe people would pay for something like that.
