  • Myself. I keep making little mistakes at work, like a typo in the subject line of an email that I just sent to a group of people. Get it together, self!

  • Another work related TW, vendors!  I'm a purchasing manager meaning I order stuff for our company, I require a confirmation back confirming price and delivery on all my orders.  So when they invoice me different than what they confirmed it just throws my whole life out of order and blocks everything.  Dude, that's why I make you confirm!

  • zomg @jessafishy i have that problem too. my parents call me over in a frantic fashion bc they minimized a window. lemme tell you how technically savvy i am...not at all. but i am the freaking IT department over here. even the freaking millennial doesnt know how to print in color (bc the button isn't staring her in the face...and clicking around to find it is too difficult), or do a formula on excel. what are they teaching in school?! shouldnt excel 101 be like your first class?!

  • A boss who is disliked around the office (known as "dragon lady") asked me to do a shared presentation  to her civic group this evening along with a co-worker who hates me.  So I am missing my kids' events and dinner with my family tonight.  And spending more time with people I don't like.  But okay.  Just now dragon lady sent an email about how she has some things she would like "to share" during our presentation.  Dragon lady talks and interrupts a lot and likely won't let me and my counterpart speak much.  FFS.  What a waste of my life.

  • Oh, I have one today. We have a huge group of protesters that protest every single Tuesday and they drive me/us insane.

Don't get me wrong - I don't mind protesters. Totally support that right. This isn't a political statement. I'm saying it because there is ZERO POINT to them disrupting our quiet little business park for this. They block the sidewalks, block the roads so we can't get out for lunch or go for a walk, they scream into the megaphones so that's all we hear, even in our office building. It's been going on since the first of the year so I assume it has something to do with the presidency - but I still have no idea what exactly they're protesting. None of us do. We've all tried to decipher the signs, the chants - no idea. We're nowhere near DC or even a state capital. A senator has an office in our building but if he's EVER here (which, I've never seen him and his office is directly across the hall from ours), I assure you he's not here on Tuesdays. They're rude to anyone who tries to walk around them and scream at anyone who drives by. It's gotten to the point that most of us don't even leave the building on Tuesdays now.

It's just - dang, guys. We're just trying to get through our 8-5 day with as little headache as possible. If you've got beef with the politicians, can you annoy them every Tuesday and not the rest of us?

@deadasthatsquirrel I don't mind being lumped in with Millennials (because literally every generation thinks they're better than younger ones) but I fully embrace the Oregon Trail Generation as my true identity from today forward.

  • My brother is a TW today. We work together it's a family business. I have nothing to do with contracts and he's emailing me that I need to do a contract for a build he agreed to do outside of our normal builds, that is a log cabin that we never build, with a customer that is a Hoover and wants to be involved in every detail. And I don't even know what to do to even start on top of the about 5 other plans I need to do, while being concerned about measuring behind with twins. I'm ready to just throw up my hands and go home saying this headache I have is worse than it is, but I won't because I have to much work to do without even doing the contract. Grrrrr.....
  • @purplestars @mrs_fogue I'm 35 and consider myself part of the Oregon Trail Generation - https://socialmediaweek.org/blog/2015/04/oregon-trail-generation/

I remember life before widespread internet / smartphones.

I half disagree on the age range, I think this can go for all 80s babies.

Anyone else freak out about how to handle our kids with all of the technology?  We didn't get cell phones until we were 16 and only because we were driving.  Texting wasn't even the thing then.  Our parents didn't have to worry about the amount of screen time and what we were doing online.  It's a bit intimidating.

  • @mrs_fogue Yes! I am also intimidated.

  • Also, I likely will let my kids have cell phones for texting/calling friends. They will not be getting a smart phone or a data plan, however, until later.

My MIL actually made a good point about young kids getting phones, when we were kids we could call our friends from the landline. Now, cell phones are so personal, that I can see why a kid wouldn't want to use mom or dad's phone to contact their friends.

  • I work in tech so prob have a different view point than most, but with my son, I don't worry about the device. I worry about the content on the device much more.

If it's crap content, no thank you. Otherwise bring on the gadget.

@carries2018 I could totally see abacuses as the next hipster retro trend.
I agree with this. The content is much more concerning than the actual device itself. If a smartphone is only used for texting/calling, it's no worse than an old flip phone.
  • carries2018  this is the great debate at our house.

I saw a news report about a school in silicon valley that has zero tech gadgets in it.  It certainly made me go "hmmm."

I agree about the phone, I had a land line in my room when I was young.  I just don't think they need access to everything that comes with a smart phone.

What school in Silicon Valley? That's where I live and everyone is obsessed with tech, so I'm curious.
  • soprano19 or rather I heard a news report, I don't even remember the name or what tv station this was on.  It was playing in the background and I overheard it.  They were talking about limiting scree time for kids and how this school in the tech capital didn't allow it.
  • @mrs_fogue that's super interesting. I wonder if it was one of those Waldorf schools or something that focus on outdoor time.
  • @deadasthatsquirrel brilliant! Oregon Trail Generation FTW. Anyone else stay in from recess in elementary school to play the Oregon trail instead? No? Just me? We also recently bought the card game version of the Oregon Trail. It's a little dumb, but nostalgic.

In regards to cell phones, I'm sure we will be getting DD one sooner than I think (I like to think teenager, but yeah right). It seems insane but it's just the world right now. We don't have a landline, and I can't imagine getting one. DH just recently said if he were raising a kid in the 90s he would know exactly what to do. Now, not so much lol but that's a problem every generation has.

DD already plays on my iPad and the ease with which she figures stuff out is pretty incredible. I try to limit her time though on it. I have a friend that is adamant NO SCREEN TIME EVER and I'm just like Lolz. I do wonder if her kids will be at a disadvantage eventually. Or maybe I just like to think that to justify DDs time playing games on my iPad lol *shrug*

  • My MIL is truly a big help but sometimes I just think WTF woman. And since I can't bitch about her IRL , here i go! Yesterday she didn't give DS any milk at all so when I picked him up he started whining real bad and grabbed at my boobs for milk. She has been looking after him for 9months three times a week now. I can't believe she didn't give him milk. DS stopped whining as soon as I poured him a cup.

  • My dreams are twatwaffles...ok I'll preface this and say that I'm a homebody, don't use drugs or go out partying (man do I miss my wine though). But almost every night, I have dreams about getting wasted and forgetting that I'm pregnant. Last night I dreamt that I snorted a bunch of cocaine and then remembered that I was pregnant, and woke up feeling really irresponsible. I have dreams about doing 20 shots of vodka, or chugging a 6 pack of red bull. It weirds me out. I watch the show Intervention sometimes, but never had drug related dreams until I became pregnant.

  • I've nothing useful to contribute here, but I just had to jump on the Oregon Trail Generation wagon. There is an app you can get of the game (not nearly as cool as the old pixelated game) and I may/may not have downloaded it. It's not the same, but you can still die of dysentery and starvation and such. :P

  • @mrs_fogue I ordered myself pizza for dinner thanks to that thread too! And I'm sure I'm going to regret how much I'll end up eating

@ChocolateIsLife I haven't had any dreams like that, but I agree that pregnancy dreams are being TWs. I have violent dreams that make me wake up soaked in sweat.
  • My TW is my boss today.  I'm a trademark lawyer and when we get instructions from a client to file a new trademark, we need to do it same-day to preserve their rights.  So today she decides to nit-pick a filing.  Which is fine, even though I disagree in this case.  What's not fine is that she's insisting we get a second opinion from someone who is part time and already left the office to go work out.  She apparently left him a VM on his cell and now I'm stuck at my computer until he decides to respond and she decides to OK the filing.  I just wanna go get my nails done, I'm over this  :(
  • Zomg. The NP I just saw. Took everything in my hormonal rage to not throw my shoe at her. My list of grievances is long. But the biggest one was she is making me take an early glucose test. Which I have no history of failing in the past and I never had to early before and I weigh the same. But whatever I guess. But it just HAS to be this week and she wouldn't let me take a drink home so I have to take more time from work to go do this dumb test I don't need for over an hour.

  • @carries2018 I would refuse it if I were you. If there's no reason and you have no history, why should you have to do it?
  • Combo bitchfest/TW but my appointment today was one big twatwafflicious experience. It started out wonderfully, with my first ultrasound look at a 9w baby (measuring 2 days ahead) with the same u/s tech who I had for my loss in the fall, and she was so sweet and happy for me.

    Then:
    - I sat in the waiting room for an hour after the u/s waiting for them to call me back for the midwife. Finally checked with the front desk and they were like, "Oops, we made a mistake and marked your visit as complete. Good thing you checked here or you would have been waiting forever."
    - Finally got called back and the nurse reviewed my history. So much was wrong. She goes "so you're single?" Nope, married. "And you have a daughter?" Nope, I have a son. "Your family medical history here is blank, can you tell me about it?" I've been a patient there for years and have filled out multiple forms with this information. THEY DELIVERED MY SON. Wtf.
    - Saw a midwife instead of my regular OB and she was super meh. Like, no compassion or interest. Just gave me the dry spiel about the practice and sent me on my way.

I've never had such a negative experience there before. I made sure that my next appt will be with my regular OB who is awesome, and I guess I'll just try to block this out and focus on the important news: BABY!

Ugh I needed to get that out.

I mean I am overweight. But being the same exact weight I was the last 2 pregnancies I don't get why it all the sudden matters.
