IUI Success Tips/Tricks?

Hello,
I am feeling a little discouraged after my last IUI round was unsuccessful. I was hoping to get any and all feedback I possibly can on what you have tried, what has helped you, and/or what you have heard is helpful in successfully conceiving through IUI treatment. I have done a lot of my own research too. I'm just feeling kind of stuck. Any advice no matter how silly you think it might be is more then welcome. At this point I am open to trying almost anything to help my odds. Success stories are welcome too. Thank you!

I'm in the process of beginning my first IUI (probably in April).  I would love to hear some tricks too

I've read that eating one whole pineapple for the five days after could help with implantation (that's one whole pineapple over a 5 day period). I have smoothies for breakfast, so I guess pineapple smoothies it will be. My husband thinks I'm ridiculous, but what's the harm, right?

  • I did IVF, not IUI, but: I ate pineapple and avocado (not together) for five days after my IVF transfer. The pineapple core in particular is supposed to be helpful. I also kept my feet warm, as again, supposedly keeping your body warm is important. Some don't eat ice cream for a while after transfer for that reason, but I didn't care to give that up :)
Make sure you are taking your vitamins and resting. Being stressed and overwrought is as hard on your body as anything "unhealthy" you can eat or drink.
    FX for you ladies!

  • Hi! I am new ( again, was here years ago and needed a break) I don't have any advice just wanted to offer encouragement and positive thoughts and prayers!! My cycle should be starting today and we will be starting are very doesn't round of IUI. Thinking of you! ❤❤
  • I've had 9 IUI's total.  (Yes 9). My first was successful with my DS.  When we restarted I got pregnant on the 4th try- but lost the baby at 10 weeks.  We restarted again and on my last chance before going to IVF it stuck- we're due with DD in August.  I tried everything- the pineapple trick, eating a higher fat diet, wheat germ, fish oil, acupuncture, having a full bladder for the IUI.  Can't say any of them worked.  For me the acupuncture was a huge stress relief and helped me mentally.  I also think it helped with my follicle growth.  Best of luck!  It's not easy!

Also for IVF they recommend no sex during the TWW and no strenuous exercising to help with the implantation. Acupuncture is also suggested by most clinics. Nothing else in terms of diet or exercise seems to be recommended by the REs.
  • @MamaJoy - I might not be the best person to give advice, because I'm also doing IUIs and haven't had one work yet, but for this upcoming one (at the end of April) I am preparing by:

    1. making sure I take a prenatal vitamin (I've been spotty for the past few months - when we first started TTC I was all over it, but then it just seemed like a daily reminder of how awful it is to not have conceived)
    2. taking DHEA
    3. taking CoQ10 - this is because I read it on the reviews for "It Starts with the Egg"
    4. Eating less refined sugar/refined flour (not cutting out entirely, just cutting back)

I also plan to make sure I'm monitored careful, and I will do daily bloodwork this time.

I tried the pineapple; it didn't work and all the bromelain kind of burned my tongue... apparently it's also used as a meat tenderizer!

    Good luck!

I've had 5 IUI. Each time I made sure I took it easy the day of the procedure and then DH and I made sure to do the deed several times over the next couple of days. We don't have male factor infertility so I felt like doing it more in addition to the procedure made me feel like I was doing something to help my chances. I will never know if that's what made it work for me but that's what we did.
