Re: Weekly Randoms 3/5

  • @MrsMaryK2016 my girl friend used care.com and found someone she really likes! I need to do that.. even just for someone to come hang with the kids while I nap. My problem is that even though I'm a very trusting person when it comes to myself.. I just get really uptight and don't trust hardly anyone with my kids.

that makes me feel better @lajoliedreamer   I wish I knew the rules on stuff like that. I mean I told them he eats every 3 hours but hey whatever he needs to fatten up

In NJ the only rule is diaper changes every 2 hours whether it's dry or wet. Feedings are indicated by the parent and kept on file.

This x 1000. I have to talk myself into being ok with every time I leave them with anyone, including the ILs. It's really bad.

I don't think it's a rule, but that staff would rather overfeed a baby than underfeed so it is more likely to happen. Mine also has diaper changes every two hours.
  • What does awake time look like at everyone's house?  I worry I don't have a good balance of holding S and putting her down to play on her own. Plus with her only taking 30 min naps, the time awake is so long.  Normally first thing in the morning I out her in her swing because that is really the only time she will sit there without whining.  We do tummy time, I put her on her back on her play mat, she goes in the bouncer, and the sit me up chair. We just rotate throughout the day. And of course we play together, sing, and read books.
  • Anyone been to Savannah, GA?

  • Ugh. My Apple ID has been hacked. It has been a BAD afternoon for me.

@ladybug2821 As I'm thinking about awake time (and there is a lot), I can't really point to a set schedule but we do tummy time, the exersaucer, "sit ups", long chats and giggles, reading, walks (when it's not freezing), run errands and when I really I need a moment I put on Baby  Einstein for 15 minutes and let him chill out listening to the music. Admittedly, he really doesn't nap and I definitely don't put him down enough.

  • My ex SIL (so brothers ex but they co parent my niece 50/50) just posted on fb she's moving to Southern CA?! We live in Indiana. Uhh what. It's 530am so I can't text my brother to ask wtf Ian going on. This would devastate my parents if that means my niece is moving away. They pick her up once a week from school, have her on weekends, etc. When my brother and C were married they sometimes talked about moving other places and even after divorce sort of did (like let's both move to the same place). I wouldn't have thought it ever to happen since they both rely on family for help.
  • That's crazy @kvruns. If they rely on family, she's going to be in for a tough reality.

This morning has not started well. DH is PO that I intervened in his "argument" with our 2 yo. He thinks steamrolling over her and forcing her to do things he wants is the solution while I'm more of a facilitator who finds a middle ground. Obviously we disagree with each other's approach on this one. Ugh.

  • Ok she posted a correction that she just dreams of moving there whenever she visits
somewhere warm. I wasn't the only one confused. Wow

  • Going back to work is going to make me poor and fat. I really didn't spend much $$ on leave but now that I'm back I want to go places on my lunch break since I don't get to do that much on LO duty and I feel like all I can do is shop or eat - neither of which I need to do

  • @megz1902 Good luck! I hope she sleeps LOTS on the drive!

This is me too! Especially since I started to carpool since I came back and the people I carpool with eat out almost every day.

  • @megz1902 I hope your trip goes well. We are possible going to GA in a couple months and I am trying to figure out how all the travel with a LO works. Like do I need to bring a PnP or will the hotel have something for her to sleep in? H would rather drive. It's a 20 hour car ride without a LO, no thanks.

I'd probably look at some sort of travel bed if your LO is small enough for it instead of a PnP. Or if you have one then bring it. You would probably have to reserve the crib or whatever ahead of time with the hotel but you might feel better bringing your own item if you can

  • Omg daycare ruined my kid today. He was exhausted when I picked him up - like barely holding his head up bc he's exhausted. Let him nap a little, fed, put to bed and he's been up 3 times. Basically it's like a crappy nap he just will not stay asleep I think bc he's sooo exhausted. I don't know what to do.

Last night and tonight are the first times he's been up after I put him down in forever. Argh.
  • @kvruns Poor little guy! I hope he is able to sleep tonight!
  • @kvruns Give him lots of snuggles! Hope he sleeps soon... mine doesn't fall asleep for another 1.5 hours.  :/

  • @kvruns - that's so hard! Unfortunately, there's an adjustment period to daycare. We went through some of the same things. *hugs*
  • Can someone just summarize what happened on this week's episode of the Walking Dead? It's been in for 45 minutes and I've just realized I haven't been paying attention at all. This season is soooo boring.

  • I've never gotten into these popular shows. I keep going back and forth between diving in to either game of thrones or walking dead.. but haven't yet. I hear great things I just for some reason never make the effort to watch them. Maybe because I'm so many seasons behind.

2 hours in and still no sleep. Plus he had sharting poop after I gave him a bottle bc he didn't nurse well cuz he was so sleepy. Let's hope he's not sick.

Cant even pump bc he keeps waking up. Of course im tired since I missed my decompress/chill window after he goes to bed and now it's time to pump. H just looks at me like "sucks to be you" since I'm the only one who can deal with him. I'm extra pissy now

Rick and  Michonne go scavenging for what should be two days but Rick keeps telling her they can stay out a little longer... they find a carnival full of rations and armed dead so they stay one night, eat, talk feelings and the next day start collecting the goods. Michonne thinks Rick is dead for about 20 seconds and gives up herself until he pops back in to save the day. There's some religious deer symbolism and they go on their merry way - Michonne admitting she's afraid to lose Rick. They bring guns to the people living at the dump. They say it's not enough guns to fight The Saviors yet but the deal is still on. Rosita is impatient and goes to find Sasha. They talk ambiguously about what is clearly a rogue mission to kill Negan.

It it was an unnecessarily dragged out episode. Am I missing anything @m6agua?

But that's the best - binge watching!! Watch the first episode of The Walking Dead. That will tell you if you'll be into the series (I think). Game of Thrones is pretty good too, but I like tv especially binge watching. Not that I get to watch tons...

  • @MrsMaryK2016 started it, got 15 minutes in, realized I was lost already. Restarted. Gave up. Today wasn't a good tv day for me

@leighry  ooof--a toughie. I love GOT more but I think you have to pay closer attention in the beginning. TWD is more forgiving, but has had serious lulls. I've loved every season of GOT.

  • Thank you @SandNStarsNJ! This season is killing me. I am so close to abandoning the series at this point, so boring! I like it better when they are on the move.

And @hoosiermama summed up the two perfectly. I second what she said!
  • @SandNStarsNJ parenting style differences make me really nervous for future issues. Sucks you're dealing with that
  • @mrsmaryk2016 A LOT of my TWD friends are saying the same thing. They're likening it to when Lost started doing flash forwards.

@kvruns For the most part we each do our own approach and empower each other even when we disagree. The real difference is our backgrounds - I'm the oldest of 3, coached ages 4-18 for years and am a teacher while he is the youngest of 2 and has zero exposure to kids other than ours. I've already found what works for years but he hasn't.

That's pretty much it. Basically Rick & Michonne had a sexcation at the carnival. The episode was all about their relationship and how they've finally gotten back on the same page and really need one another. Also solved the issue of food and weapons.

  • @SandNStarsNJ that sounds exactly like H and I over here! H had zero kid experience, I have quite a lot, so sometimes we butt heads because he's mostly just heard lots of the old school opinions/ways (spoiling, show them who's in charge, etc.) It can be tough! I also try to let him do his own approach, it can be so hard to not just step in!

  • B has a cold - made it a whole 4 days of daycare. That definitely explains his sleep issues bc not napping + sick does not = a happy baby
  • Oh noooooooo!! :s I hope he fights it quickly.
  • LO's inconsistent sleep is starting to weigh on me. Her naps have been horrible. It's 12 pm and she's only taken a 20 and 15 min nap. Last night she woke up almost every hour for the paci. I eventually had to cosleep so she would stop waking. She's also been trying to wake up at 5am for the day. That is just too early. I'm worried that she won't get enough day time sleep for her development but don't know what else to do. I can't hold her for every nap. I start work Monday and I know H isn't going to be holding her for naps either.
  • We are in the middle of a huge wind storm with 160km/h winds. We have no power anywhere within the city or surrounding areas. We drove to my moms 20 mins away despite literally every street light being out and almost every intersection have traffic lights missing. but she can't get her generator working. So sitting in the cold here too. Hopefully this doesn't last long.
